“Room with a view” Just returned from a memorable 2 weeks at Sonia Studio apartment. Outstanding value for money and exactly what it says on the tin. The studio consists of a good sized bedroom, a well fitted ensuite shower room and an open plan sitting/kitchen area. there is no cooker or sink so if you are into cooking big meals this not for you. If however, like us, you prefer to eat out at local tavernas every night, it has everything you need. We rotated round the 4 tavernas in Gavalachori village each night and enjoyed superb tradtional Greek food at very modest prices. The village is renowned for its food and people come here from all around to partake, including a high proportion of local Grreek families - always a good sign. They are all a 15 minute walk downhill from the studio, or a 3 minute drive down a back lane with very little traffic. However back to the studio which has two outstanding features which set it apart from virtually anything you will find in this price range. One is the truly palatial balcony equipped with sofa, table and chairs and sun loungers. It is totally private and overlooked by nothing but the stars. We sat here for many an hour drinking wine and taking in the jaw dropping views. The other gem, a short hop down your own back stairs is the equally private pool area with BBQ, covered area and more panoramic views. This is for your sole use and Its not just a plunge pool either - you can go for a decent swim here. I kidded myself that my 50 lengths day would counteract all the beer, wine and mousakka I had eaten. Sadly the bathroom scales back at home had a different story to tell. If you want to swim in the sea - the nearest resort, Almyrida is delightfully low key and only 5kms down the road. Last but not least, your genial host Carl is there for anything you need, but never intrusive.If you need him he's there and if not he is invisible. Outstanding.
