“Wow! Hacienda Encantada far exceeded our expectations!” If it was possible to give this home 7 stars, I would! Truly this is a remarkable little home. I cannot say enough great things about Hacienda Encantada. Everything on the listing is accurate and up to date, the photos do not do the place justice, and it is very close to nearby attractions. Nancy, the property manager, was amazing (as well as her husband Z). She organized and booked our zip-line tour, guided jungle tour, our lovely horseback ride with appaloosa Stables to a local private waterfall, and also recommended Ecothermales (the hot springs near arenal that everyone should visit). The cell phone available to those who stayed was such a help as Nancy and Z didn't mind us calling to have them answer questions. I felt like I was staying at a 5 star resort with the accommodations and assistance from everyone involved. Also eating at Pizza John is a must! He makes you feel quite at home. To top things off, the place was clean and well stocked which is important for us! Thank you, Nita, Nancy and Z, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

“Spectacular!” The Red Sunset of Guanacaste is a beautiful 5 bedroom home with a spectacular view of the arenal valley. Patrick our host was waiting for us when we arrived. He was extremely helpful in planning our tours and suggesting restaurants etc. We had him cook for us 3 of the 4 nights we stayed. He is a great cook and very reasonable. The staff where friendly and very helpful. It was a wonderful stay and I would highly recommend this accommodation. The road to the Red Sunset is a very rocky rough ride, but it is only a mile or so.

“Peaceful Retreat” First, the owners could not be more charming, understanding, and accommodating. The wife is american and he is Ecuadorian, so they understand what each culture of traveler needs in a hacienda stay. Second, what they offer is hard, if not impossible, to find in Ecuador. They occupy 100 coveted acres of meadow land, tucked away back in the foothills of the andes mountains, in a valley surrounded by pine/eucalyptus forests, and it even has a running stream through the property. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, they maintain 7 horses for guests to use, chickens for fresh eggs, turkeys, ducks, geese, a couple of friendly dogs, who are eager to go exploring with you, an organic garden, where you can get many of the fixings for your meals, and endless trails to discover the countryside. Not to be outdone, the home renovations are meticulously done. They have spared little expense from the lovely sheets, pillows, and down duvet bed coverings to the handpainted walls in each room, not to mention stylish furnishings and furniture. When we arrived, there were fresh flower arrangements in every single room and hallway. Roses, hydrangeas, calalillies, and many I could not name. Some are from a nearby rose plantation and the rest came from their beds around the house. The kitchen comes fully equipped and they even stock the pantry and let you use their supplies until you can get to the store for your own stuff. You pay on the honor system for what you use, which also tells you what kind of owners you are dealing with. Some nights we cooked and others we chose to have their on-site staff surprise us with some more typical Ecuadorian dishes, but they could cook many other international dishes as well (we had Peruvian chicken one night and it was excellent). This is a must on any travelers list, if you want to see the unspoiled beauty of Ecuador. Plus, the multiple houses make it perfect for family retreats, getaways with friends, or even business functions.
