“Notia House is the perfect place to explore the culture or relax” Notia House is the perfect place to explore the culture or relax, so we keep returning. We've stayed four times, in varying groups of friends and family since 2009. We fitted in 6 for one holiday, with room for one more little one. Notia House is cool in summer and cosy out-of-season. Theo has renovated the old house superbly. It has lots of mod-cons (oil fired central heating, fast Wi-Fi etc) and useful extras like bicycles. The courtyard is cunningly designed so there are plenty of shady spots and sun-traps. Out of season, indoors is cosy and warm. The house is very tastefully decorated with an inviting log fire in the winter. Upstairs there are three double bedrooms plus an ante-room. We have stayed in January, March, April and May with party sizes varying from 3 to 6. Easter in 2010 was especially memorable as the village celebrated exuberantly. Eressos has a long history, being the birthplace of Theophrastus (founder of botany and ecology) and Sappho (the first great poetess). They found inspiration here. It has bags of character - just a 5 minute walk from Notia to the village centre with its bakeries, mini-markets, bank/ATM, greengrocers, kafenions, tavernas etc. The square is great for people watching and the tavernas excellent. It is 2.5 miles to Scala on the coast with its bustle and mixture of classy and cheerful facilities. The magnificent beach stretches over 2 miles. Beyond the river and wind-surf club there is a mile of sand, where clothes are not essential. In early May it was virtually deserted. A car is probably essential. The walk to Scala takes about 45 minutes. Bikes are quicker of course. Eressos is remote. It's a good 90 minute taxi journey from Mytilene, but well worth the effort. Theo and aspasia are both friendly and efficient and speak excellent English. Every villager greets you with "Kalimera” as you walk to the bakery for delicious treats early in the morning. This sums up the spirit of Eressos in these troubled times.

“All you could want: charm, central location, super view” Wonderful old house updated to modern conveniences. In a great location in the central village. Fantastic view from its large terrace. It feels a bit of a hike up to the house at first, but it's not really, considering the whole village is up-and-down. And every step is worth it. The Captain's View is charming, comfortable, fully-equipped, and private. And bonus: there are no more-accommodating owners on Earth!
