The Turkish Aegean Coast region
This is probably the easiest area of Turkey to get excited about. From Marmaris to Antalya the coastline is gorgeous, the weather is reliably excellent and there are heaps of things to see and do. The Turquoise coast at its finest has become the destination of first choice for many first time and repeat visitors to Turkey. It is also, of course, the area that shows the highest level of tourist development and there's some sort of race going on here. The rugged nature of the country slows the developers down but more and more of the coastline is being opened up. Datca for example, on the tip of the Marmaris peninsula and for years only accessible by narrow and twisty mountain road, will benefit from a new highway being carved through the mountains this year. Whether or not this is good or bad is way to complex a question for this correspondent.
This region corresponds to ancient Lycia and the Lycians knew a thing or two about designing cities that would degrade gracefully. Between Fethiye and Antalya there are a score of sites worth seeing, Lycian , Dorian, Roman, whatever. Highlights include Myra, Simena, and just about everything in the Xanthos valley, not forgetting the magical site at Olympos. Your best bases for these excursions are probably Hisaronu or Kalkan, any further East and the Xanthos stuff starts to become a little hard to get to.
The coastline from Marmaris to Fethiye is green and spectacular, the beaches are pretty good and it is here, usually via Dalaman or Antalya airports, that the charter planes bring the bulk of Turkey's summer visitors. Don't let this put you off. There are still plenty of places that not everyone gets to and you'll probably have a great time. The key to enjoying all the delights that this area offers is mobility and if you can hire a car or just get on the myriad of small buses running up and down the coast, the effort and expense will be repaid.
The villa is actually in the small village of Yaniklar about 10 minutes drive from Calis and 15 mins from Fethiye. So the local area in Yaniklar is quiet if you just want to get away from it all - the local beach is very quiet. However you have the advantage of nightlife in nearby Calis or Fethiye if you want it. Both can be reached by taxi, car or dolmus.
Fethiye balances the attractions of a bustling resort town with the functionality of a working regional centre. Arrival at the bus station may give you the impression that you've come to the wrong place with no evidence of the sea, hotels, restaurants or any trappings of the tourist industry but a 5 minute taxi or dolmus ride into town will begin to reveal the place to you in it's true colours. Fethiye's strength is in it's role as a base for exploring the surrounding coastline and countryside. You'll find a good range of shops, eating places and accommodation and excellent transport services to surrounding attractions. The harbour area makes a pleasant place to spend the evening and the pedestrianised old town is appealing and a reasonable place to shop for souvenirs.
Calis is a more traditional seaside resort with local restaurants catering for British tourists and plenty of nightlife.

"Excellent Villa and Holiday"
We recently returned from a wonderful holiday in Turkey which included a week at this very nice and comfortable villa in the Oasis Village. The house was well maintained, clean and was well equipped providing everything we required for our stay. It was perfect for our family of 5 (parents and kids aged 15, 10 and 7). We had a rental car which was nice in that it gave us a lot of flexibility. The area is quiet and we found our time there very restful. The Oasis Village is situated in Yaniklar just outside of Fethiye in a farming area. We loved taking strolls in the evenings after dinner along the country road. There are many things to do so we would go out in the mornings (beach, markets, boat cruises, etc.) so it was nice to return to the villa in the late afternoon and have a swim while barbecuing. The Oasis village has nice green space which was great for the kids. My son met some boys and would go play football with them in the late afternoons on a field just outside the gate. The staff at the store and restaurant were friendly and helpful. The owners supplied plenty of information on the property and were very nice and helpful in our correspondence. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this villa.
Thank you for your comments. Look forward to seeing you next year.

"Amazing, can`t wait to go back!"
Excellent holiday. House was amazing, very spacious, clean, modern and well equipped. Great pool area and further pool facilities on site. Lovely pool bar with great food and amazing staff who couldn`t do enough for us.Very reliable and reasonable taxi services who take and collect for a fixed fee. Eating out and trips really reasonable, highly recommend a boat trip. Great beaches again with pick ups arranged .Plenty of supermarkets around and some will even pick you up and deliver you back for free! We had an amazing time and would highly recommend this house and area for a lovely peaceful holiday!
Thank your for your comments, glad you had a great time.
