The Puglia/Molise region

Salento is a peninsular region of south-eastern Apulia bordering on east the Adriatic Sea and on west the Ionian Sea. A territory with a natural tourist vocation capable to stimulate and transmit different messages enchanting with the myths and signs of ancient peoples, to interest with the testimony and cross-breeding of cultures of the Mediterranean. Along the coast, you can admire the continuous alternation of soft sand and a low rocky coast on the sea, high and steep on the Adriatic coast, low and soft on the Jonian. The inner part of the territory, you can see huge fields of olive trees, interspersed with vineyards, which product fine wines and oils.Who discover the Salento appreciates the magical atmosphere, the many wonders to discover, the hot sun, the blue sky, the cristal sea, the Baroque art. A mix of art, culture, tourism and traditions that makes this land unique for those who live there and great for those who visit it.

Then there is that part of Greece called Grecia Salentina: situated in the heart of the Salento peninsula is an area where lives a community that preserves the language, culture and traditions of Greek origin.

Within this geographical area we find the Greek Community of salento which includes the nine municipalities contiguous to: Calimera, Castrignano dei Greci, Corigliano d'Otranto, Martano, Martignano, Melpignano, Soleto, Sternatia, Zollino with a territorial extension of 144 square kilometers and a population of 40,964 inhabitants.

h Trade and cultural relations between indigenous peoples and peoples of the Aegean-Balkan were already significant in the Aegean-Mycenaean period and continued intensively during the Archaic Age, Classical and Hellenistic.

Tricase

. The rituals, festivals, shows and the memories of this earth that combines culture and tradition, sacred and profane, Christianity and Paganism and that found in the patron saint the item to venerate and worship.

During the period from 15 July to 31 August all the villages of salento celebrate their festivals, some sacred (religious procession), others pagan with music and dancing.

In these festivals you can eat the food cooked by the women of the village, but what is more surprising is that all (old, young people and children) are in square dancing to the rhythm of overwhelming pizzica (an ancient dance of courtship).

To see the “pizzica dance” or “la notte della taranta a Melpignano” to go on "youtube".
