BookThe Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
Les Chouettes is situated 10 km from the typical medieval village of Sarlat -la-Can'eda which offers so much amazing history and the best markets on a Wednesday and Saturday. Domme - perched high on its hilltop - is still today one one the most intact medieval villages still intact with its largeg rampart walls. If you are interested in the history of the region -dont forget to visit the Beynac Castle at Baynac et Cazenac (the French Castle) accross the Dordogne River yu will find the opposition castle Castelnaud built by the English during the 100 year war to keep a very careful watch on the French!!!! In easy driving distance is the famous paleolithic caves of les Eyziers (20 minutes), Le Bugue (a lively market town), Sarlat - which is known for its medieval streets and buildings, its famous market and superb restaurants.(40 minutes) Limeuil (10 min away) is a lovely village where the Vesere and the Dordogne rivers meet. It is also a lovey spot to relax next to the river and watch your children play in the water.. Bergerac (30 Mins) is known for its delicious wines and fois Gras. It is also not far from St Emilion (1 hour) which is a fabulous day excursion. This region is so rich in many historical sites such as the Lascaux Caves, the Bastide towns such as Domme, Beaumont, Monpazier, and many magnificent castles along the Dordogne such as the Baynac Castle and the Castlenaud Castle.
The Tremolat area
Les Chouettes is situated 1 km from the charming village of Tremolat which is snuggled inside the dramatic loop of the Dordogne River. Tremolat has so much to offer with its amazing restaurants - a 2 star Michelin restaurant in the famous Les Vieux Logis Hotel, a wonderful Bistro, A pizzeria and an Auberge just 3 km outside Tremolat for wonderful Southern France Cuisine. We enjoyed our week long stay - six adults; three generations. The pool is great; there's lots of room. There was a delay being met at the train staions and Simon seemed to be pretty casual about returning our deposit and a couple of other details. There was a problem with the shower drain but I am sure that has been fixed by now. The bicycles were a bonus; a choice of two nice patios; laundry facilities were good. The village is a twenty minute walk; the pizza restaurant is much more than just pizza - I had the best poached salmon I.'ve ever eaten 9and I'm from the west coast of Canada!). All in all it was a great vacation and I would definitely recommended it. |

We visited Les Chouettes after winning a week there in the Bid4holidays charity auction. It's a stunning farmhouse in a beautiful setting - the master bedroom completely wowed us with it's space and feature beams (the photo really doesn't do it justice). The local village is not too far away with a local shop, patisserie and a couple of restaurants - about a 15min cycle on the bikes, depending on how much wine you drink with your meal! It's also in an ideal spot to explore the rest of the Dordogne - a day or two of kayaking is a must. You'll need a car to get all of your provisions and to visit the little villages and markets. An extra fee was added to the final cost before we arrived for someone to meet and greet us at the property. It turned out that he wasn't there when we arrived as we had a late evening flight and we didn't see him until a day or two later (not that this was a problem as we got into the house fine). It's worth checking all of the costs before booking though. Apart from that, the holiday was amazing. A perfect spot in a very pretty part of France. Response: In response to this guest who won the accommodation in the Bid4holiday charity auction - the extra charges (as with most gites throughout Europe) will charge a surcharge for the use of linen/towels/and pool towels. These charges are to cover the servicing of the vacation rental and the laundering of linen etc. This way the guest only pays for what he uses ie if only 2 people are staying one would pay for two not for 8. We at Les Chouettes always meet our guests (which is definately not charged for), unfortunately in the case of this guest - he failed to notify us that his flight was arriving at 2200h - therefore making his arrival in Tremolat very late, and impossible to make last minute alternative arrangements for him to be met. |
