Rich in history and abounding with olive groves and vineyards, if you want to experience traditional Italy, Puglia is the place for you. Warmth, from the sunshine and the local people, hospitality, tranquil olive groves, superb cuisine and wine. Historic centres and other historic builidings to explore. Local festivals, dancing and music (don't miss the tarantalla!) and local foods to try. Everything you could want from a holiday in Italy.

Casa Mare is ideally situated to explore the whole region of Puglia. Close to Lecce, the Florence of the South, and to the Port of Brindisi, head north and inland for the historic centres of Ostuni (the White City), Martina Franca, Cisternino, Ceglie and others all within an easy drive. Further north (about an hours drive) you will find Fasano Zoo Safari and Alberobello, home of the Trulli, Castel del Monte and Castellana Grotto. Head south for the port of Otranto, Santa Maria di Leuca on the tip of the boot where the Adriatic meets the Ionian. South west for Gallipoli and and many other beautiful towns/cities and beaches. Torchiarolo

Casa Mare is mid way between Lendinuso and Torre San Gennaro. Both are Italian holiday villages and within walking distance of Casa Mare. During the season there are often open air shows and local dancing. Both have restaurants, pizzerias, gelaterias etc.

Torchiarolo is a small town and has everything you need including a great family run trattoria (excellent food, superb wine).

Lendinuso is walking distance from Casa Mare and has a wonderful bakery/corner store open all year and a great butchers (seasonal) as well as markets, geletaria, pizzeria and other entertainment in the season. Torre San Genarro is also close by, half an hours walk or 5 minutes by car. Live entertainment in the season offering small supermarket, bakery, cafe-bars, restaurants and beaches. Nearby towns have supermarkets, butchers, fishmongers, greengrocers, post office, bank and hairdressers. Also some great restaurants and cafe-bars. Large hypermarkets, Auchan and Ipercoop, within 20 minutes drive.

It was unfortunate that the heat exchanger failed just as the guests arrived. The temperature of the pool water was 28+ and we put the pool cover on every night to help keep it up as much as possible. The heat exchanger was replaced as soon as we could get delivery of a new one and all is now back to normal.

We are glad that you enjoyed Casa Mare and the facilities. The location is as advertised, rural and by the sea, with the beach conditions variable according to the weather and the tides. Apart from the beach in front of the house the beaches at Torre San Gennaro and Lendinuso are both in walking distance and offer good sandy beaches with commercial facilities.

"An unforgettable villa in an unforgettable place"

Review of Casa Mare, May/June 2013
In spite of a glowing description, all too often villas booked through the internet fall short of expectations. But Casa Mare far exceeded them. First impressions count, and to walk from hot sunshine through the large villa gate to discover a beautiful shaded pergola, the air filled with the scent of jasmine, the hint of blue water sparkling through the leaves, set the scene perfectly.
The villa is large, light and airy and very pretty. The three bedrooms have masses of wardrobe and drawer space, the kitchen is particularly well equipped and the solar powered hot water never runs out. In the sitting room there is a treasure trove of books, games, DVDs and most important of all the Black File. We used this hive of information every day and found it invaluable. The television is larger than most people possess in their own homes and picks up just about all the English channels (including children's) one could need. There was the promise of a Welcome Basket awaiting us – but we didn't expect a delicious dinner also to be there. What a relief with two tired little children, and much needed by the four of us adults too after a long day of travelling.
The garden is a delight, with a large shady terrace in front of the villa and so many areas for basking in the sun – always a glass in hand! Plenty of shady areas too. To one side, the fruit and vegetable garden produces more than most green grocers in England. The star of the garden is the large, warm, enticing blue pool, with plenty of sitting areas and loungers all around. The pool is constantly maintained and cleaned to the highest standard. There are also masses of pool toys for the children.
We chose this villa originally because we wanted a sandy beach close by. It is so close that you can hear the gentle waves lapping on the sand when you lie in bed, no road to cross. We swam in the sea, built sand castles and enjoyed a sundowner most evenings. We explored the whole local area. Southern Italy doesn't have the sophistication of more northern Italy and this is reflected in the fact that the cost of living is so much cheaper here. Everywhere there are glorious olive groves, charming little villages and towns, excellent little shops filled with delicious fresh food (a 15 minute walk along the beach to Lendinuso is a must for breakfast croissants and fresh rolls in the mornings) and there are some delightful restaurants close by that are not over priced. Puglia wine is in profusion with gutsy reds and mouth watering rosés to match the best and most expensive in Europe. Talking of wine, we went on an extremely interesting wine tasting trip for a day with Paola and Donna. We enjoyed it so much we have arranged to have some wines shipped to England.
Do not miss a visit to historic Leccé, about 20 minutes away once you are familiar with the road. Do not miss Torre San Genaro either (20 minutes walk) with dancing and singing in the square in the evenings for young and old alike, and a delicious inexpensive pizza at the White Bar.
Finally, Debbie and Bob Lane, the owners, are on the spot to act immediately if anything is required. They could not have been more charming, and never, ever intruded. We were very grateful for their advice and suggestions on several occasions. Our children adored their cats in the garden, though they never came into the villa.
All reviews must have a downside: this is one of the few places left in Europe that remains unspoilt, with wonderful sunshine and charming, friendly people everywhere. The downside is that one day it will be discovered by tourist developers and follow the same pattern as many other similar parts of Europe. Get there quick before that happens!

We love to here when our guests have really enjoyed themselves and discovered the real Puglia! Thank you.

Just a comment about the availability of English TV - the channels vary depending on the time of year and even the weather.

"The villa was luxurious, and we received a very warm welcome- Couldn't be better"

Warm greeting and welcome. Above usual help when we needed it ( and we did) - such a support. Food wonderful - local produce and recipes cooked by the local chef which was also very good value. Welcome basket very useful and lovely contents. Place clean and pool and hot tub just what we ordered! The beds all very comfortable, good mattresses, which I haven't had at any other villas we have stayed in. Beach just outside gates and the area was quiet when we went but although our Italian is none existent, the locals were friendly. Not a touristy area!! A car definitely needed. Loved the cats, and their antics- we will miss them! Thankyou very much to Debbie, Bob and The Puglia Chef for making our stay so easy and enjoyable.
