The Loire Valley region
Our cottage is situated in the region of Berry. This is the small part of south-central France which incorporates the two departments of Indre (36) and Cher (18) and the north of departments Allier (03) and Creuse (23), all named after the major rivers that run through them. About 250 kilometres south of Paris, between the Loire valley and the mountains of the Auvergne.
Ste Severe sur Indre
Perassay is a small, typically french, village about 1km from the cottage. There is a small general store where fresh bread is available daily from midday. There is also a bar/tabac.
Ste Severe sur Indre is a lovely small town with a market every Wednesday in the medieval market place. You will find the newly opened Maison Jour de Fete(The Jaques Tati museum) here.
There are several leisure lakes nearby including Lac de Sidialles with man made beaches, boating, pedalos and a bar.
The first stage of the Tour du Limousin ends in Boussac - 20 minutes by car. Boussac is a delightful small town and has a busy market on Thursdays. It has two supermarkets with petrol stations and a couple of pleasant restaurants.
A MUST FOR CYCLING ENTHUSIASTS! The Tour de France 2011, stage 7 finishes in nearby Chateauroux on Friday 8th July and stage 8 departs from Aigurande on Saturday 9th July.
La Chatre is a 25minute drive away where a market is held every Saturday. You will find a good selection of supermarkets here.
George Sands lived in the area and wrote most of her works here. You can visit her home in the chateau at Nohant. She was a great friend of Chopin who often spent time with her. Another chateau worthy of a visit is at nearby Sarzay.
A number of important motorsport events are held in the area.

"Fabulous holiday location"
A wonderful rustic cottage if you are looking to get away with it all. Charming and rightly lives up to its name of Stargazer cottage! Mo and Steve are wonderful hosts, couldn't be more helpful, their veg garden is to die for and having fresh organic fruit and veg every day was fab. They also introduced us to the local festivals and people and we saw a lovely side of the Loire. We had 2 teenagers with us and who weren't bored at all with having the lake, the tree climbing and zip wiring and the water sports all nearby. Definitely would recommend a holiday here and hopefully we will be back in the near future!

"Perfect cottage for a quiet relaxing holiday"
I cannot praise the owners ( Maureen & Steve) highly enough, they were wonderful & extremely helpful when my husband fell ill whilst on holiday. The cottage itself was idyllic with every home comfort. A fantastic setting, with great hosts, what more could you ask for. We hope to return soon

Had a wonderful time - thank you so much Maureen and Steven! Cottage was gorgeous - in a very beautiful, picturesque location. Loved the fact that you would be sitting in the living room or doing the washing up and a random chicken would wonder past the window! Our 2 year old son, also had a lovely time and particularly enjoyed sand castle building at the beach by the nearby lake! Lots of lovely villages and markets to visit. Maureen and Steven were perfect hosts with lots of local knowledge and suggestions of where to visit. Their home grown fruit and veg was very scrummy! We didn't buy a single item of veg during the entire holiday!
Having the cot and high chair supplied for us was great as it meant more space in our car for other luggage! We are also now looking for a memory foam mattress as the bed here was amazingly comfortable!
Thank you so much - the relaxing holiday was just what we needed after the difficult weeks we had prior to the holiday. Will certainly recommend to friends and family and hope to return soon!

"Wow! What a Gem!"
'Stargazer' is the perfect name, as the view of the stars are amazing! The whole holiday was wonderful. Not only was the property better than we had expected (the photo's do not do it justice!) but Maureen and Steve are the perfect hosts. There local knowledge is excellent, they are extremely helpful and generous, without being intrusive. Like they say in the advert, you really can help yourselves to the fruit and veg. Without a doubt, the best place we have stayed in. Was in two minds whether to write a review, as once word gets around about this little Gem, it maybe difficult to go again as they will be fully booked! And we certainly will be booking again!
