The historic town of Quimper on the River Odet is within easy reach and a little further will take you to the elegant seaside resort of Benodet (river cruises link the two). Not to be missed are the port of Concarneau with its wonderful medieval Ville Close, and the lovely estuary town of Pont Aven, famed for its artists and one time home of Paul Gaugin.

Walking in Brittany is spectacular, ranging from Atlantic cliff-top walks round the Crozon Peninsular and woodland and river rambles. Guide books and maps at the house contain extensive information about places to visit and walks. The ever-growing “Hollen Book of Knowledge” contains tips on fishing, trips and local guides as well as favoured restaurants, bird sanctuaries, expeditions and adventure parks.

Further details outdoors

French windows lead from the sitting room onto the large terrace. The house is set in over an acre of ground (mostly laid to lawn) with slopes and a flat area for games with a wooded boundary to the north which has proved perfect for building a tree house! There is a large newly gravelled area for parking at the bottom of the drive.

About this location

The Brittany region

Brittany is the westernmost region of mainland France and the coast is similar to Cornwall with hundreds of miles of rugged coastline comprising great rugged cliffs, miles of beautiful sandy beaches and tiny coves and ports - but all a few degrees warmer than the UK. The region is renowned for its produce both from the sea and land.

Beaches are easily accessible - both gentle bathing to the south (about half an hour) and some of Europe’s best surfing beaches to the west (about 45 minutes).

The historic town of Quimper on the River Odet is within easy reach and a little further will take you to the elegant seaside resort of Benodet (river cruises link the two). Not to be missed are the port of Concarneau with its wonderful medieval walled close, and the lovely estuary town of Pont Aven, famed for its artists and one time home of Paul Gaugin.

"Just perfect."

A beautiful property in a beautiful area. A wonderful week with the family in a cottage that is a real home from home with excellent facilities and home comforts. Within easy driving distance to many beautiful beaches and towns. We have no hesitation in recommending this cottage, you won't be disappointed.

"Well equiped, good scenic location for South & West Brittany exploration"

Just spent a sunny August week in this great accommodation (probably the best equipped property we have stayed at out of 10 or so over last few years). Well laid out for our twin family holiday with children aged 10-13. Rural location, short walks to local shop and located in a pretty scenic area. We found the property to be an ideal base to explore inland areas and the coast to the West and South. Many interesting towns are located within 20-30 miles and we managed to spend our mornings sight-seeing in Breton villages & towns and our afternoons lazing & swimming at nearby beaches. We toured every day for a week and returned to Plymouth (from Roscoff 75 mins away) on one tank of diesel! Plenty of local information contained within the visitors books. We would have no hesitation recommending this property - Note: stairs are quite steep.

"Fantastic holiday home to visit all the sights"

We stayed at Hollen for two weeks and had a wonderful time. The property has recently been renovated and has all the makings of a home from home and suited our mixed group.Everything is provided and there is a intermarche within a five minute drive.
The property is in a quite location but a short drive takes you to the sights ,beaches and activities.

"Great return visit to Hollen"

Returned to Hollen after an absence of fourteen years. Property extended and much improved by new owners. Will hopefully be returning for another lovely visit. St Thois wonderfully quiet and relaxing with excellent supermarket and eating places within a short distance. Finistere a wonderful area to tour.
