The Brittany / Cotes-D'Armor region

We are situated in a peacful rural hamlet in Cotes D' Armor, approximately 12 miles of Guingamp.
Quiet country lanes, standing stones and lakes made for a relaxing holiday, centrally situated for multitude of beaches suiting all tastes; sandy, busy, rocky, pebble,picturesque... within 1 1/2 hours of the main ports of roscoff and St. Malo, and the 'Ryanair' airports of Dinard and Brest.
Our nearest proper town Guingamp is a lovely working town situated in th Trieux vally, the square in the centre was built in the 18th centure and you can sit outside one of the cafes and watch the world go by the renaissance style fountain, unless it is saturday, when the market will be in full swing.
We have lots of bars and restaurants to choose from, for those special evenings out.
Our local supermarket is only ten minutes away from the house, same distance if you would like to visit the local swimming pool, which also has a bar right next door to it.
Twenty minutes from the house is a beautiful lake near Corlay, I already mentioned about fishing is allowed, or you could just go for a nice walk around the lake.
The Climate in Brittany, from March / April time we start getting much warmer weather, most of the time the weather is quite pleasant right through to October time, it can get a bit windy at times.
Trieux which twist and turns through the town, is very attractive, you can also discover Trieux in a canoe starting at the town mill leisure activities in the area include tennis, fishing, walking & horse - riding, mountain biking, etc. There are two major events which are a tribute to Breton culture.
These are " Gouel ar Bugale Vreizh" in July, which is a parade of few hundred children dressed in traditional costume, and the "Saint - Loup" festival, in August turns Guingamp into the capital of Breton dance and music for a week.
Other places of interest:
Pontivy is in two halves - the medieval town with 15th centure chateau overlooking the river, and the regimented streets of the old renamed Nappoleonville. it was a military base, the town arund du Martray, has overhanging wooden houses and a good Monday market. The nearest big town St Brieuc is a truly busy place, and complemented by the best hypermarkets, and lovely beaches.
Quimper:
Morlaix owes its wealth to its maritime history and the prestige, of the 13th & 18th centure.
Carhaix - plouguer is in the centre of Finistere the next department, by the beautiful Nantes/Brest canal, between the Montagne Noires, it is a cultural centre of Brittany filled with tranquillity of the countryside.
The tourist train links Carhaix and Pontrieux in the department; Cotes d' Armor, here you could also find activities such as: Karting,Bowling,Squash,Spa, Sauna, etc.
The nearby local area boasts an abundance of fascinating places to visit, things to do every dad if you choose to,from St Michel to the tranquillity of forest and lakes, wonderful restaurants, bars, traditional markets and local cuisine, finding time to fit it all in is the hardest part of your holiday.
The St Nicolas du Pelem area
Driving is a pleasure on wonderful quiet roads which wind through tree lined valleys and sleepy roads & villages.
Lac de Guerledan:
Activities include fishing, horse riding, swimming, water sports, restaurants, cycling, rambling and bird watching, Close by is the abbey Bon Repos situated on the side of the Nantes - Brest canal and the beautiful Balvet river.
Day permits can be purchased at our local news agents, the nearest fishing lake to our place is in Corlay, stocked with trout, fishing season starts from July, ends in September.
At the abbey of Bon - Repos they held an open air play in August the 3rd, 5th, 9th, 10th, and the 11th, the play is about the past of Conomor, and Saint - Gelven, ( LE PAS DE CONOMOR and SAINT - GELVEN, fantastic!! the reality of the play has to seen to fully appreciate it.
This area is perfect for country ramblers eager to explore new places, and if you are after a much more interesting walks !! why not try going to Perros - Guirec, this has to be the most amazing of Brittay's coastal walks, following the Sentier des Douaniers, the famous coastal path from Perros - Guirec to Ploumanac'h.
West of Perros - Guirec, the rocks of the pink Granite coast takes on the most bizarre of profiles, their rounded deep coloured forms contrasting boldly with the azure sea.
The 'Pink Granite' rock is, in its natural state, a sort of dusky red colour and here fissures and generally been the archittect of the most eccentric of sea - scapes.
This is a popular holiday area, and the path is well - known, so you are unlikely to have the scene to yourself., nevertheless, this is a walk that should not be missed.
I think , this place can also be a painters heaven, with so many beautiful places to pick from.
St. Nicolas Du Pelem is an artists paradise with wonderful light and picture at every turn, Breton tradition believes and Legends are an integral part of their culture, places which are often unique where the world is in perfect harmony with nature.

Very central to Brittany, this welcoming Gite is well placed for site seeing in Brittany as both the north and south coasts are reachable in around an hour and the west coast in a little more. Yandeh and Kurt make you very welcome and immediately put you at ease for your stay with their 'treat the place as your own' and 'come and go as you please' attitude. The village has a very good Italian restaurant which also does takeaway pizza etc and Yandeh will be happy to point out other local restaurants, walks and places to visit during your stay. Altogether a great place to unwind and recharge your batteries, we highly recommend it ! |

I went with my son and we had a good time, although our motorbike broke down! A pleasant stay although very basic the family were nice but don't waste your money on the 'African Experience' meal cooked by the owner which is rather bland and definately NOT worth the cost Don't be tempted by this place if you are a couple looking for something romantic - Romantic it is NOT also the area is drab and some traveling is required to really 'do anything'. I have travelled most of Europe and would not go back to this place, for the money there really are a lot more beautiful and/or exciting places to go Finding the palce was 'VERY BAD', we had to stay our first night in a Hotel in the village because we couldn't find it and no one answered the phone; worse there was no suggestion of a refund for the overnight hotel or our loss of our first nights stay!? VERY POOR... Response: Our only regret is this guest at the time never mentioned to us about a refund for the hotel or the day lost! he said he was perfectly happy!if he had mentioned to us he wasn't happy, we could have come to some arrangement! to solve the situation. We send to all out guest's how to get to us map so far with no complications! however we would like for any future gust's booking with us having any problems with our map and need more help please do not hesitate to email us for further information! to make your journey as easy as possible for you. This guest mentioned my food was bland! the reason for that is, not everyone likes it hot!( spicy) but I always say to our guest's if you want it hot I've made an extra hot sauce for you to add to your food. To all our future guest's if you like your food hot and (spicy) please let us know in advance, for I like nothing more than to know you are happy! with what I offer you. We also gave all the help we could give by letting this guest use our phone to ring his insuracne company in England when his motor bike broke down, and to ring the company in France who picked up his bike to fix it, he was not charge for this. May we please take this opportunity to say we will help any of our guest's we do our upmost to assist our guest's during their stay with us in any way we can! we are here to try and make your holiday a happy exprience. We offer drifferent variety of African dishes for 15€ per person for that our guest's get a drink on arrival, starter, the main course with a bottle of wine, cheese/dessert, and coffee. Please if you don't think this is good value for money you are not under any obligation to order! but please don't worry in our village and near by towns we have lots of places to eat. Please first and formost check out wether what our area has to offer! will this be to your liking! by checking on our holidaylettings website before booking with us, we try to give as much information to give you some insight! this will help you a great deal to plan your holiday. It can be a long drive depending where you started your journey from, it can be a marathon! journey! taking that into consideration we always leave a welcoming pack so you can unwind before you get to the shops, the welcome pack consist of bread, cheese, milk, coffee, tea, sugar, etc, and if you have any special request for items to be put in your gite please let us know at the time of booking. Thank you for taking the time to read this. |

St Nicolas du Pelem is quaint, beautiful, ancient, fun, groovy, not disimilar to the setting for the BBC comedy in the '70s "Allo Allo" - absolutely delightful Brittany village - ideal for exploring the beaches, towns, history, culture, food, wines, champagne markets, eateries, wonderfully, eclectic mix of locals - some very urbane & international - others, warm, friendy, relaxed, welcoming Britons.... Both Jules & I fully intend to return - we're planning on this Christmas & New Year in our romantic, fully equipt, clean, welcoming Gite 3 (with THE BEST power shower - big enough for 2!! we have ever enjoyed..... |
