This apartment resides inside a tastefully gated beach front block.
The lovely bright apartment is tiled throughout and furnished to a high standard with high quality wooden furniture. Ornaments are carefully choosen from normally 'next' or M&S.. and even more carefully transported from the UK to the flat.
The fitted kitchen has a built in full height fridge freezer, gas hob, microwave, toaster and kettle. The dining area is next to the kitchen area which leads onto the open plan lounge. It also leads to the bathroom and both bedrooms.
The lounge area has two sofas from which you can look straight out over the beach and sea through the large double patio doors.
The balcony is truly stunning and when i am staying there this is where i spend most of my time, reading books, chatting with friends, entertaining, watching the world go by or the sunsets with a glass of local Fogo wine (its an aquired taste!).
The main master bedroom has a double bed fitted wardrobe, bedside tables and a large set of drawers. A separate en suite toilet/ shower room is attached to this room. Patio doors open onto your own private bedroom balcony on the other side of the building.
The second bedroom has twin single beds, fitted wardrobe, bedside tables, and chest of drewers.
Both bedrooms and the lounge area have high quality hitachi inverter air conditioning units fitted.

This flat is truly front line and on the beach, the views as you can see from the balcony are what we all dream of. The sea is about 1 minute walk across the beach/ tundra from the gates. The World Windsurf Champion Josh Angual Windsurf Centre beach approx 300m along the beach from the flat.
The Barlavento Islands region
Year round sunshine in the Cape Verde Islands. Less than 6 hours direct flight from the UK. Ex Portuguese colony, now independent and dependent on tourism. The reason Sal has grown as a tourist destination over the years is its wonderful sandy beaches, dry climate, warm temperatures, and friendly people. For a laid-back holiday, where you can relax, this is the place. Only 10 minutes transfer time from airport to the villa.

Floating off the west coast of Africa, ten barefoot and very different island paradises wait to whip your breath away. Each one is dramatically different, from bounty-like blonde sands backed by jungle-like scenery to volcanic monochrome landscapes peppered with pastel-painted towns. Yes, the beaches are mind-bogglingly gorgeous. And the colourful blend of cultures from Africa, Portugal and Brazil will have you charmed from the moment you arrive.
Cape Verde’s bounty-like beaches instantly grab your attention. Miles of utterly breathtaking porcelain-white sands stretch as far as the eye can see, seductively sliding into glass-like seas. Santa Maria’s unspoilt seashore curves around the coastline for over 7km, so whether you want to stay close to the action near the water sports centres and beach bars or crave the solitude of the sand dunes, you can always find your own piece of paradise. Stroll along the sands and spot the island of Boavista on the horizon. Reel in a Blue Marlin or Yellowfin Tuna. Learn to windsurf across the waves. Or simply sit under the shade of a raffia-style parasol and watch an energetic game of volleyball. However you choose to unwind here - it's most definitely a desert island dream.
The people are a mixture of African and European with approximately 70% of the population being of mixed race. The official language of the islands is Portuguese, which widely spoken and used in newspapers and anything that is written. Instead they use Creole, their national language, based on African languages but with additions from several European languages. Even this can differ from island to island. More recently English has been taught as a foreign language in schools. The religion of the islands is largely Christian, with most people being Catholic.
Idyllic year round temperatures in the high twenties and virtually no rain makes the Islands the ideal getaway whatever the time of year. Their privileged position in the Atlantic means they enjoy fairly constant cooling breezes which keep the atmosphere almost free from humidity. Rainfall is minimal throughout the year and is most likely to occur during the months of July and October.
Santa Maria, Sal Island
Lie on the beach all day and relax. The flat is on this beach about 500m away.
Visit the turtle nests/ beaches and special nursery... so cute! (June-Nov)
Go fishing from the shore, or by boat.
Go diving from many dive schools, the best i have found is this one.. they are all great, safe and with good equipment, They taught both my young daughters to dive.
Take a day out in a sailing boat
Go quad biking or explore the island in dune bugies, a lot of fun!
Visit other islands on day trips in a light plane
Walk along the coast
Snorkel from little coves
Go surfing, kite surfing or wind surfing
Dine at the water's edge in local restaurants
Enjoy fresh fish and seafood
Have a great evening with the very friendly ex-pats in Tam Tam Bar.
Sit outside at night and watch the amazing stars
Visit Santa Maria, Espargos, Burracona, Pedra de Lume volcanic crater, the port of Palmeira.
Sal really appeals to ocean lovers who enjoy the simple things in life. Some things are very European and similar to the Cannary Islands, other areas are significantly more basic, very unspoilt and beautiful.

"Top marks. We didn't want to leave!"
I stayed in this apartment with my girlfriend and another couple for two weeks over New Year. The booking process could not have been smoother and David, the owner, is a pleasure to deal with – professional, attentive, helpful and responsive. He sent us lots of useful information before our arrival, and even arranged for a taxi to be waiting for us at the airport.
The apartment is spacious, modern, well equipped and well maintained. The balcony is huge with fantastic views, and we lost many hours just sitting there enjoying it all. Having two bathrooms made it perfect for two couples, and it would also be ideal for a couple with children. The kitchen was more than adequate for our needs (see comment about eating in/out below), and most importantly had a decent size fridge for keeping drinks cold.
It's worth noting that the apartment is on the outskirts of Santa Maria, approximately 10-15 mins walk from the centre of all the restaurants, bars, shops, and the main beach. This was fine for us, as it gave us chance to work up an appetite / walk off any overindulgence in the evenings and we used taxis when we didn't feel like walking as they only cost 3 Euros flat rate within Santa Maria, but it's worth considering if you'd planned to be in the thick of the action. The apartment is perfectly located however for the Josh Angulo's surf and watersports centre, where there is also a nice beach. Angulo's beach bar actually ended up as one of our favourite places – perfect for breakfast, a lunchtime snack, or an evening beer watching the sun go down. The staff there are excellent and the food both tasty and reasonably priced.
Santa Maria itself is a seriously laid back place, and it only takes a couple of days before you are completely relaxed and stop caring about what time it is, what day it is etc! We also found it to be very safe, and everyone we met to be extremely friendly. Apart from watersports (which are available everywhere in Santa Maria), below are a few activities we particularly enjoyed:
- Quad bike safari - we did the full day tour which takes you around the whole island, stopping at beaches, the salt mine, blue eye, and a bay where you can watch sharks.
- Scuba diving – a fantastic experience. Use the company recommended by the tourist office cabin in the centre, as the staff are simply excellent and made this a really memorable day for us.
- Walk around the headland to Ponta Preta – the walk takes you along the most amazing beach, and the café on the beach at Ponta Preta does surprisingly good food.
- Fishing trip – we opted against the expensive 'big game' fishing and instead went out with a local fisherman in his boat for a few hours (booked through the tourist office cabin). It was great fun, inexpensive, and between four of us caught around 60 fish, a number of which we took to a food hut on the beach who cooked them for our lunch – you can't get much fresher than that!
- Catchupa cooking – catchupa is the local dish (made from beans) and we persuaded the Culture Café to let us into their kitchens to teach us how to make it (this used to be a tourist activity which was discontinued through lack of demand). We had a really fun few hours (particularly as the chef doesn't speak English) and the result was delicious. It was fun to sit afterwards watching paying customers quickly order what we had been unable to consume, unbeknown to them that it had been cooked by four tourists!
A word on eating in/out – don't go to Santa Maria planning to self cater the whole time - you will really struggle as it can be hard to find some of the 'basics', and fruit/veg is not cheap at all. It's much better to eat out, and on this note we found there are loads of very good restaurants (though you'll really miss out on a treat if you don't like seafood!). Our favourite restaurant by a long way (and we did try most of them!) was La Privee – only 10 minutes from the apartment, great atmosphere, interesting menu, excellent food, and reasonably priced.
Overall one of the most relaxing holidays I've ever had and I wouldn't hesitate to return to Sal, and to David's apartment, again. Top marks all round.

"Really spacious front line flat in excellent location"
A most comfortable flat with a fabulous view of the beach and sea situated within a pleasant 3 minute walk of a great beach bar and 10 mins walk of the main town with shops and resturaunts. The flat was very spacious having generous room sizes throughout. The kitchen area was a tad small though, but fortunately, I had no plans of any Cordon Blue cooking whilst on holiday. The pots and pans could have been better! Didnt see one mosquito all week!
The balcony is in shade most of the day being directly below another balcony which actually turned out to be benificial as the sun is very strong. The fabulous Kite beach which was almost deserted, is only a 15 minute walk away. I only hired a car for 1 day which turned out to be sufficient as there is not much to see on the island and there are many taxis around for short local journeys.
Many thanks N for your review. The pots and pans will be replaced on my next visit to the flat, I don't think that many people cook and they are used very little hence why it had been missed that some had started to rust.
You state that the balcony is in the shade for most of the day.. I think this is a little misleading... I would agree that there is almost always some shade on the balcony but that there is also always sufficient sun to sunbath on the balcony year round.
I am glad you made the comment about the absence of mosquitos it is a regular question I am asked by guests prior to their visit. Occasionally there are one or 2 but normally there are none. Fitted to the flat is an electronic insect repelled which can be used by guests if they wish.
Thanks again for your review and we would welcome you back anytime

"Perfect apartment with uninterupted sea views."
We are just back from a wk on Sal and had a great holiday in Santa Maria, the apartment was spacious, modern well equipped and spotlessly clean. The large balcony offered great sea views and we were just a stones throw from Josh Angulo's surf school, the perfect place to sit and watch the sun go down. Santa Maria centre is a 10 minute stroll away and it was lovely to try out all the nice beach restaurants along the way. I would wholeheartedly recommend this apartment and Sal to anyone.
