Local activities ialso nclude snorkelling; diving; windsurfing; kitesurfing; trekking; and dune buggying.
Don't be surprised to see or hear wild donkeys wandering around!
Hot Tip for Boa Vista
In addition to turtles on the beach you may catch a glimpse of whales around the islet of Sal Rei, a feeding ground for humpback whales and a magical sight if you are lucky enough to experience it. Whale sightings usually take place from June through to August
500k west of Senegal in the Atlantic Ocean, The Islands of Cape Verde enjoy their own diverse culture, strong sense of history and identity that has been widely influenced by Africa, Portugal and Brazil, yet remain unique to the Cape Verde islands.
The ten islands all offer something different, with enough beauty and beguiling charm for even the most seasoned traveller, along with a tropical climate and miles of beautiful light golden sandy beaches.
With flights under 6 hours from the UK, the small time difference and the friendly people, it is had to beat as an all-round holiday destination, and still low key enough to feel like a bit of a discovery
Boa Vista is home to some of the most dazzling beaches on the archipelago covering a staggering 55km.
Closest to the African mainland, Boa Vista is not only renowned for its stunning beaches but its marine life too. Nightlife here is very low key and quiet with just a scattering of local restaurants and bars.
More About Boa Vista
Boa Vista is quite literally covered in sand and many buildings have been completely absorbed leaving an endless blanket of sand. A great example of this is on Praia da Chaves, an old ceramic factory covered in sand is still intact with machines in situ! Sahara like dunes in the interior of the island with sprouting date palms are an impressive sight and well worth a visit.
Depending on the time of year you may even spot some turtles on the islands southern beaches. Boa Vista is thought to be the third most important loggerhead nesting site in the world, with the favoured time of year for turtles to nest usually being during the months of June through to September.
The miles of unspoilt coast line are excellent for you to enjoy uninterrupted walks as well as being a popular location for windsurfing enthusiasts. Other watersports are available in addition to quad biking tours and line and deep-sea fishing.
There are a few festivals on the island including the common music festival that takes place on Santa Cruz in August. The other main colourful festival is:
Santa Isabel (Municipality Day) 4 July - The day of Santa Isabel, the patron saint of the island. Celebrated with processions, swimming, horse racing, tours and a public ball.

We are from Germany and were there three weeks with our children (13 and 17 years). There were two nice bedrooms and everything was very clean. Excellent was the swimming pool and the bar on the housing complex. The people on the Island were very friendly. We recommend this appartment completely.
Thank you so much for a lovely review and for being perfect guests!!

I stayed at Vila Cabral 2 for a week in May with my best friend.. It's our third visit to Boa Vista but the first time staying in an apartment in Sal Rei. The apartment was lovely, right by the beach and only 5 min walk to the shops and bars. & we had the pool pretty much to ourselves as it was a quiet week! The only slight downside was elci bar was shut for 4 days whilst we were there and so although we'd paid for wifi, we couldn't use it on the days they were shut - obviously something that was just bad luck & to be fair we coped without. I would definitely recommend reggae night on Tuesday evening at Morabeza, it's an amazing vibe, good music & who doesn't love a bar on the beach! Social Club is beautiful as well and we had a brilliant day relaxing by the beach & sunbathing there. I've always loved Boa Vista & this time was just as good!
Very many thanks for a lovely review. So happy you enjoyed it. Sorry about the wifi, but there is a working 'dongle' available in the apartment, for just 20 euros refundable deposit - you only had to ask my 'managers' - never mind, next time eh?...hope to see you again soon (or even in Sal perhaps!)

"Great place - made the trip worthwhile!"
The apartment was brilliant and served us well over the week we were in Cape Verde! It is within a few minutes walk into the centre of town, has a beach straight across the road and the little shop within the building was one of the best places! Always seemed to be a party there each night! Would book again when I head back!
Thank you, look forward to hearing from you again when you are planning your next visit - just make it a bit longer, there's so much to do!!
