The converted barn is 160 years old and retains it's character with exposed beams and stone walls, a woodburner taking centre stage.
The accommodation is over three floors. The bedrooms are light & airy and each has its' own en suite.
One of the bedrooms has a vaulted ceiling and the other has a balcony. Downstairs the living/kitchen area is open plan with two double doors leading onto your private terrace.
I have furnished the gite to give a homely feel and with your comfort in mind. The kitchen is equipped with everything you should need should you be fed up on being waited on in the local restaurants
In the lounge/ dining room we have provided games to play, DVDs to watch, music CDs to play and books to read while you are having a rest and letting others cook for you!
The lounge also has exposed beams and original stone walls and the wood burner is ideal for those chilly winter breaks.
We have also placed in the gite a cool box and picnic set.
A cot, playpen, highchair and baby bath are also available if required just to make life that little bit easier!
Electricity Included. Linen and towels included.
|Further details outdoors|
Opening the 2 double doors from the lounge you step on to your terrace area where you can sit out on a warm evening and barbecue to your heart's content.
The swimming pool has a large terraced sun bathing area with an arbour to provide shelter when needed and a magnificent private view.
The surrounding countryside is peaceful and beautiful. It's a good idea to bring a pair of binoculars as we have a pair of kestrels nesting in the barn and in the morning there are Hoopoes foraging in our field for their breakfast!
The 9m X 4.5m swimming pool is heated and is shared with the owners who work all day, are not on holiday and don't like swimming! It is a salt pool and is available from June to September and is fenced to meet with French safety regulations.
We ask guests to supply their own swimming towels however, we can provide them for an extra 5€ for 2 for the length of your stay.
The Midi-Pyrénées region
The regions' landscape changes with every turn of the road. From deep river valleys and undulating hills to views of nearby mountains. This landscape covers the lower valley of the Lot, the gorges and the valley of the Aveyron.
The regional food of foie gras, aligot and stockfisch are a must to be tried and if you get bored of eating you could always pop into a wine cave for a snifter or two!
There is so much to see and do in this area.
In the next valley is Mirabel a village used by the French resistance to escape capture and the village of Belcastel with it's chateau and 2 gourmet restaurants or if you fancy a bit of DIY you can take a picnic down to the Aveyron river flowing through the medieval village of Previnquieres.
All within 10 mins drive from the gite!
There is also a weekly market in the bastide town of Villefranche de Rouergue which is said to be the best in the region, or you could book a canoe for an hour, 1/2 day/whole day just to cruise throught the Gorges of the Aveyron, but if you fancy sitting up a bit higher you could go horse riding through the vineyards of the Marcillac valley or if you fancy using you own two feet there are lots of walks in the area I can recommend or translate for you.
Places that are also a must to visit are Conques (world heritage site), Najac, Peyrusse Le Roc, St Antonin Val Noble, Cirq Lapopie, Bozoul and so it goes on.......
The village of Rignac is a 7 min drive and holds a small weekly market and has a well stocked local shop/excellent butcher/ pharmacy/ 2 mouthwatering boulangeries/ post office/ haberdashery and what defines every French village...5 hairdressers!!!!!!!!
There is also a park and in it are a lake, tennis courts and an open air swimming pool.

"peaceful retreat in glorious countryside"
On arrival our gite was lovely and clean and beautifully presented. There were many thoughtful touches, including a welcoming bottle of wine and beautiful biscuits. We had fantastic weather and enjoyed relaxing on the very private patio, which had the sun all day. I would imagine in summer, with the pool available, it would be gorgeous.
It is very peaceful and rural - a car is essential- but there are a few shops within a short ( 10-15 mins ) drive for basic provisions , and a large (ish) town about 25 mins away which has a really good weekly market and some amazing architecture. There are also many beautiful villages to explore on the doorstep and lovely walks through forests and gently rolling countryside.
We were only there for 4 days, but could have stayed for many more. We would like to go back and explore further .

"Fantastic rural France"
We stayed at Lynne and Garys Gite in early September and had a fantastic time. The Gite was fantastic, situated in a beautiful rural location and was really what we were all looking for. When you holiday in a rural location like this you really need to have your research done, we didn't, but thankfully Lynne had everything covered with a folder full of information on restaurants / markets / walks / activities / sites etc. that made life very very easy for us. The 'market culture' of Aveyron was such a nice experience with lots of interesting food to sample. Coming home in the evenings and relaxing by the pool was a great way to take the edge off.

"A haven of tranquility in rural France"
From our first contact Lynne and Gary were most welcoming, they have given a great deal of thought to the needs of their guests staying at the gite and have provided excellently; wonderful range of kitchen equipment including picnic facilities, bbq, games, books, guides to the area etc, etc. The gite is beautifully decorated, a most comfortable "home from home" and above all spotlessly clean. The setting is tranquil, all that is needed to ensure a restful break, views of open countryside providing an abundance of wild flowers and interesting bird life; kites, kestrels, Whoopoe's, shrikes, buzzards to name but a few. The location allows for easy visits to a large number of attractions; Cordes, Conques, The Aubrac.

"For the first time in 35 years we did not want to go home"
Beautiful gite in a lovely location. Attentive but discrete owners. Fantastic views. Loads of history and outdoor activities. Good place to sample a wide range of really good food from Michelin starred restaurants to Les Routiers.

"An peacefull location idéal for relaxing holidays in beautifull Aveyron"
We spend one week with my wife and 3 young children and all of us really enjoyed the stay for numerous reasons. Kids particularly enjoyed the secured pool but also all the animals (chicken,cows,pigs..) directly accessible in the small village where the house is located. The owners were always present when needed , always ready to help and teach the kids on how to retrieve fresh eggs from the chicken!
The location itself is really ideal. I like the 'french retreat' expression: relaxing holidays with nice views on the sorrounding hills. It is nearby many awesome villages and bastides such as Villeneuve,Najac... We truly did not expect région would be so nice.
We strongly recommend this place for people looking for authenticity and french gastronomie!

"Heaven on Earth - Wonderful hosts, wonderful locale, wonderful wine!"
"Un petit coin de France" is exactly that. Not so far off the beaten track but hidden in a beautiful countryside. Easy access to many attractions. Among our favorites, Belcastel, St. Antonin, kayaking down the Averyon, Gaillac, Cahors. For those that are a little more adventurous Roacamdour and the beaches of Nardonne were stunning. An abundance of fabulous wines, cheeses and of course the baguettes are all yours for the taking.
The gite was very spacious, clean, and welcoming with a lovely patio and pool to relax at after the day.
Top all of this off with the most wonderful hosts. Lynne and Gary are truly inspirational, they have done a great job in transforming this property and really are in their niche overseeing the Gite. Always available when needed but never imposing. Both are very knowledgeable of the area and are very frank with any questions you might have. We have traveled to many areas, and can honestly say that the Gite, its owners, and the surroundings were well above standard. ( not to mention the most wonderful tomatoes from their garden.
We would highly recommend this property to our friends and family. Sincere thanks to Lynne and Gary.! xx

"Quiet countryside with beautiful places to visit"
We received a very warm welcomefrom Gary & Lynne on our arrival and they showed us all the facilities of the Gite. The location is very peaceful with wonderful views over the countryside. For those hot days of which there were quite a few the swimming pool was really appreciated. The Gite was perfect for our requirements with the large lounge dining room/kitchen and the two ensuite bedrooms were very spacious.
Even though the location was quiet we were not far away from all the wonderful towns and villages of Aveyron. One of our favourites was Belcastel, 15 mins away, alongside the river and also our favourite restaurant "1909" was there with good food and friendly service. Villefranche-de-Rouergue is the nearest large town with all the shops you could need and has a charming old bastide centre, the nearest town is Rignac which has the shops you need especially the bakers and butchers which are very good.
It is the ideal place to have a peaceful break in the French country side but if you want history it is there for you to immerse yourself in and with your excellent hosts nearby being ready to answer you questions.
Thank you for leaving such lovely comments. We're so glad that you liked the gite and that you enjoyed your holiday. We look forward to seeing you again.

"Peacefull, rural idyll"
We arrived late in the evening to be welcomed by Lyn who had stocked the fridge on our behalf realising that we wouldn't have eaten, the welcome bottle of wine was also gratefully received. The next morning we awoke to have a proper look round and meet the 'ladies' (hens) who had come to the door to welcome us. The gite is very comfortable with everything we needed. The pool was warm and soon sampled. The hamlet of La Fage is a cluster of 4 properties but the nearest town is Rignac a 10 minute drive away and offers everything you need ie supermarket, bakers and butcher. Although Lyn and Gary live next door they were not at all intrusive but at the same time were hand when we needed something ie when it turned so cold we needed to light the logburner Gary quickly arrived with wood to burn. Overall a beautifully appointed and situated gite with everything we needed, only the weather was missing!!
