The Rhone/French Alps region

Located in Savoie, the region is noted for its mountain scenery, ancient castles, cheese and outdoor recreation. In winter snow sports dominate. Whilst Pralognan is a family ski resort, nearby the major resorts of Courchevel, Meribel, Val Thorens and La Plagne Paradiski are also accessible within approx. 20 minutes by car. Outside the winter season walking, climbing, mountain biking as well as sightseeing are the main pastimes. The historic towns of Albertville, Chambery, Chamonix, Annecy and Grenoble are all possibilities for day trips.

Pralognan-la-Vanoise is one of Savoies liveliest villages and is situated in the stunning Vanoise National Park, the oldest National Park in France, renowned for its remarkable geology, flora, fauna and beauty. It is a small but lively village, perfect for summer hiking and climbing (Grande-Casse, Peclet-Polset and the Vanoise Glacier) and winter alpine / cross country skiing, walking and mountaineering. Several alpine refuges serve the walker and mountaineer. The ski area contains all grades of runs plus a snow park, piste side restaurants and ski school. Ski passses are very reasonably priced. The village boasts a wide range of traditional restaurants and outdoor equipment shops, along with food shops, bars and a twice weekly market. There is a swimming pool - indoor and outdoor with water slides, ice rink (Pralognan has a great Ice-hockey team), ten pin bowling, cinema, aerial parkway, rock climbing, via ferrata and tourist office. Throughout the tourist seasons there are regular events, guided walks and fetes. The cable car operates in both winter and summer. For those who love the hills 'out of season', September and October are great months to visit - the autumn colours are glorious and you'll have the mountains all to yourself.
