The apartment has a particularly spacious feel being on one level with high ceilings throughout and exposed beams in the dining area. Light floods into all rooms through high windows reaching almost to the ceiling. It has been redecorated in a contemporary style with quality modern appliances and the latest technology.

The living area is open plan with a lounge dining area. The sitting area has two sofas, an ottoman, a coffee table, an LCD flat screen TV, a sound system and a DVD player. Free WIFI is available; a computer for guests' use and a writing desk is also located in the sitting room. The adjoining dining area has a table and six chairs with a matching dresser. This area opens out directly onto the sunny, south facing terrace garden through large arched glazed doors. The ¾ metre thick limestone walls of the old building can be appreciated here and through the adjacent kitchen window overlooking the terrace.

The garden terrace is furnished with a table and seating for six, and a modern barbeque. There are also two deck chairs available to use. A large extendable canvas canopy provides exactly the required amount of shade, and potted citrus trees and Mediterranean plants surround the terracotta tiled floor. The terrace is very private and set back from the street overlooking a cobbled courtyard off rue François Oustrin. It is not easily visible from the street or surrounding buildings making the apartment and terrace also very quiet. An extendable clothes line is located on the terrace, but well hidden.

The kitchen is well equipped with a sink, oven, stovetop, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine and all the usual small appliances. You will appreciate the generous supply of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans.

The large main bedroom is furnished with a queen size bed, bedside tables with lamps, large wardrobe, a chest of drawers and two chairs. There is a sound system available in this room.

There is a separate shower room with sink as well as a water closet. There is a hair dryer in each bathroom as well as one hair straightener in the apartment.

The second bedroom contains two single beds. It has a large wardrobe, bedside tables with lamps and a chair. This room has two large classical windows overlooking the private atrium and is across the hall from the shower room and toilet. The bedrooms are quite separate and private.

There is an air conditioner in the apartment as well as stationary fans for each bedroom.

Further details outdoors

Parking is not a problem at Appartement François as there are 2 carparks very near. A reasonably priced 'pay' carpark is at the end of the street, only meters away; and a huge 'free' carpark is located nearby. The bus station is a short walk away.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

The region of Herault in the Languedoc is a sun-drenched corner in the south of France, with sandy beaches lapped by the Mediterranean sea; wild open spaces in the Cevennes hills; monasteries and castles to be explored; and vineyards where you can taste some of the best Languedoc wines. The department of Herault covers around 6200 square km and has a population of around 90,000 people, who mainly live in Montpellier, Sete and the town of Béziers - three very different places, each with its own character and charm. There are a large number of beautiful towns and villages throughout the Herault department, Pezenas being one of the best examples of these.Bordering the Mediterranean is about 60 miles of coastline, which stretches between the beautiful region known as the Camargue, and the tree-lined Canal du Midi. The landscape of Herault is craggy and beautiful in the southern part of the Massif Central and descends gently from there onto the Mediterranean coast. With its lakes and saltwater lagoons, gorges and rivers, mountains and beaches, sunny climate and cultural attractions, Herault is a magnet for tourists from all over Europe.

Pezenas

Pezenas is a town in the Herault department of Languedoc-Roussillon region, 20 kilometres north-east of Béziers. It is an attractive old town, unspoiled by modern development, with narrow streets to explore as well as some grand 17th century houses. Its town centre was one of the first in France to be protected as an historic monument. There are examples of lovely stone detail in windows and doors, breathtaking wrought iron balconies and stone staircases. The Hotel Jacques Coeur, the Hotel Carion de Nizas and the Hotel de Lacoste are all buildings of particular merit. There is even a well preserved Jewish ghetto in the town dating from the middle ages. The nearby tourist office offers guided tours of the town to help you make the most of your stay. The tourist office was once the barber's shop and it was here apparently that Moliere dreamed up some of the characters for his plays.During the evening you can wander through the old town where you will find a number of inviting restaurants to tempt you.The church of Saint-Jean-de-Bébian is classified as an historic monument, and the other main church - the church of Saint-Ursule also merits a visit. The town is also reputed for its antique and bric-a-brac shops.Pezenas is especially proud of its association with Moliere, who brought his troupe to the town on several occasions, and has a monument to commemorate the fact by the reputed sculptor Jean-Antoine Anjelbert. As a consequence, each summer Pezenas plays host to the Mirondela de l'Arte, when music and street entertainment takes over the town. The market day is Saturday in Pezenas and there are smaller markets throughout the week.

"A stylish, wonderful and supremely relaxing home from home"

I can't rate Appartement Francois highly enough, I really can't. The location is fantastic - an innocuous side door up a pretty cobbled street in the heart of the old district of Pezenas. Fantastic cafes and amazing boulangeries are - literally - 10 yards from the front door. Pezenas itself is wonderful to walk round, eat in, shop and generally just take in. The apartment, despite being so central, is actually a real haven - it is so quiet & peaceful it's amazing. It's light & airy with wonderful high ceilings, and is furnished in a way that puts it between extremely stylish and a really relaxing home from home. The terrace is perfect - coffees and pastries in the sun, reading a book - fabulous. The owner is also a real pleasure to deal with - the amount of detail given to us to help with booking, getting there, getting in, orienting ourselves, getting around and getting any help - was incredible - so organised and far, far better than any I've had anywhere else. Everything is there, everything works, everything seems new - it's one of the only places I've visited where we didn't have one single niggle, or thing we'd change. If you are thinking of heading to the South of France, I would definitely advise you to consider this apartment.

"Light, spacious, attractive apartment that caters for every travel need."

After four weeks of travel it was a delight to settle into this apartment in a beautiful medieval building in the lovely historic centre of Pézenas. It is quiet, with high beamed ceilings, flooded with light, comfortably and tastefully furnished and with all the equipment that one could possibly require. The terrace is secluded and lush with potted plants. The internet works well and, unlike in many rented apartments, the lighting for reading is excellent. The walk from the car park is very short which is important when moving luggage in a pedestrian only precinct. All communication with the owners was very friendly and helpful.

Thank you Jean, for taking the time to write such a complimentary review of the apartment. It gives us so much pleasure to hear that our guests have thoroughly enjoyed their stay and felt completely at home in Appartement Francois. We continually find that the apartment attracts the nicest people!

"Great Appartement!"

We spent a month in France recently taking in a Canal du Midi boat trip, a week in Appartement Francois in Pezenas, and a week in Paris. It was our unanimous choice that Pezenas was the the best of these. The town itself, in the Languedoc region, is conveniently situated to the Med, Beziers, Carcassonne, Montpellier, and Nimes. It has a rich history and many, many old buildings situated on narrow, cobbled streets that provide endless interest. It has a link to Moliere, though the Scenovision show at Tourist Office was quite weak and boring. The "Door Museum" is more interesting than it might sound and many more imposing doors can be seen throughout the old part of town. The Tourist Office's guided walk is a good way to see the many places of interest, as well as artisan studios of many varieties. On the outskirts, though still well within walking distance, are many antique stores. Close to the Appartement are many bistros and restaurants, as well as bakeries, and a perfectly adequate supermarket. There is also a large Carrefour a short drive away. Driving distance away are more wineries, with excellent and hospitable wine tastings, than you could possibly, and safely, visit as well as other interesting villages. Saint Guilhem le Desert was a favourite, thought extremely busy even in October. Close by is a fascinating underground cave complex, the Grotte de Clamouse, which offers a 1 km tour of the stalagmites, stalactites, and other wonderful geological structures. The Appartement itself is a gem! Located in a pedestrian only zone, easy walking distance from several car parks, it is a quiet and peaceful oasis on the first floor of an old stone building. Inside, however, you will find a modern two bedroomed unit with everything you could possibly want in a vacation rental. The kitchen is well equipped, the sofas comfortable, and there is a great selection of music to play through the hifi units located in the sitting room and the master bedroom. The owners have supplied an informative folder of information about the apartment, the town, and the surrounding area. All in all, a great vacation spot that I recommend highly.

What an amazing review you have written Andy, about the apartment, the town, and the surroundings. The numerous emails which flew backward and forwards between us, throughout the planning of your holiday, really paid off. You and Marilyn made the most of every opportunity the location had to offer. Thank you for all your complimentary comments about the apartment too; we couldn't be more delighted that you and your friends put Pezenas at the top of your holiday destinations. Come back and visit us again soon, I'm sure there are still lots more things for you to see and do!

"Lovely apartment in oldest part of town"

Lovely apartment right in the heart of Pezenas, you can walk to everywhere in two minutes or less. Very nicely decorated, comfortable furnishings, great location in the town, lovely terrace. A great place to go for lunch is the Abbaye de Valmagne at Villeveyrac, beautiful food, lovely people, great wines and a tour of the abbaye is a must. The owner of the property was extremely helpful when we were booking and she has some great tips about where to go. Thanks Sue.

"A very well equipped apartment in a very nice town"

Although Appartement François is located in a very old building it has been developed so that it has all mod cons such as washing machine / dish washer etc. The decor is also tastefully done and it lacks nothing in kitchen utensils which many apartments often do. It has a lovely balcony with gas BBQ, and an awning which is very handy if you want to sit out at lunch time in the heat of the day. It does have air conditioning in the main living area which works well although there were only fans in the bedroom. This would not normally be a problem although it was exceptionally warm when we stayed (approaching 40 degrees) and therefore quite warm at night time. Usually I don't think this would be an issue however. Pezenas is a lovely old town and it's worth spending a day there without venturing any further. There is no shortage of places to eat or shops to browse and it is steeped in history. We ventured down to several of the beaches on the coast within about 15 miles of the apartment and very easy to get to. It was also nice to travel inland to other places well worth seeing. Saint Guillhem le Desert was well worth a visit, plus we enjoyed picnic-ing around and swimming in Lake Salagou. Because of the very good road network consisting of TOLL FREE motorways it is very easy to travel around by car. There is also a bus station in Pezenas if you wanted to use public transport. All in all, a highly recommended place to stay.

Thank you for your very generous review. Making the time to write such a detailed comment on Appartement François is above and beyond what we could ever expect of our guests. This family stayed in the apartment during a particularly hot spell. We would love to have air conditioners in every room however being in the very centre of a historic town has its limitations. We were extremely lucky to be allowed to install the one large unit we have in the main living area, as most buildings in this part of the town are unable to have air conditions due to the Marie's strict regulations. The fans are therefore our next best option and with lots of large open windows they generally do a great job. It was a great pleasure having you to stay and hope you’ll return in slightly cooler weather.

"Such a beautiful apartment in a beautiful town I didnt want to leave"

Having stayed in numerous self-catering apartment style accommodation offering in France, this is simply the best. I could easily write a 1000 words in praise of the apartment and the location, but for readers I will summarise the apartment highlights: - All basic things you would expect are there in terms of kitchen, bathroom, laundry facilities, so it really feels as close to your home comforts as possible. - Very tidy and comfortable; and obviously well looked after. - Great location close to town sites, shops, food, and only 100 metres from car park to front door. From a leisure aspect, here are my highlights of the stay in Pezenas: - Our stay coincided with a Moliere festival in town with lots of fun & free entertainment - Day trips to Canal du Midi, Carcassone and Arles - Days spent on the beach at Plage Mole (Cap D’Agde) - Meals & wines on the apartment’s sunny deck. The local Rose is yum. - Too many ice-creams from Sophie’s at the end of the street - Shopping at the Saturday market. I recommend Apartment Francois without hesitation if you are looking for the perfect blend of setup, location, and customer value. If I’m back that way I even bother looking for alternatives.

"Perfect holiday rental in Pezenas"

This is the perfect holiday rental in Pezenas. The apartment if on the second floor in a very old building in the historic area and is convenient to everything. The rental is exactly as pictured on its website. It is nicely decorated, well equipped, immaculate and very comfortable. The owners are organizational genius's--providing you with detailed directions for arrival and an information book that answers every question you might have. This is our third visit to Pezenas--we just love the town and area--and our stay at the Apartment Francois this year was the "icing on the cake".

Thanks once again to guests who have taken the time to write a review about our property. Feedback is always very much appreciated as we continually try to provide the very best experience for our guests. For those considering a stay in our accommodation I would like to clarify that the apartment is on the first floor, up one flight of stairs, via a very easily negotiated staircase. Every room of the apartment is on the same level which makes it comfortable for people of all ages.

"We had a lovely stay in Languedoc."

Our stay in the Appartement Francois was everything we had hoped for and much more. The apartment is perfectly situated in the historic district of Pezenas, a few steps from intimate restaurants and a very friendly coffee/tea shop. The apartment is spacious and well appointed. We felt very much at home. Pezenas, aside from being delightfully interesting with it's markets, galleries and architecture, is centrally located between the sea, mountains, Beziers, and Montpellier. We took day trips in each direction and were rewarded each time. I will long for the cheese and 2E bottle of wine we found in the tiny village of Montesquieu until I return.

"snug, ideally situated apartment in a lovely area of France"

We spent time in February 2012 in this apartment. It is really well situated in the heart of the old town of Pezenas, where you can pop out in the morning and get yourself hot croissants for breakfast round the corner. Public transport links by bus are excellent.and inexpensive. We managed to get to and from the airport/flat by bus while there are services to the main towns and villages from the bus station a few minutes walk away. There are some great restaiurants within minutes walk as well. Also much appreciated was the excellent TV and Internet system, giving access to all the main UK stations. The only downside was the reletively small size of the spare bedroom which means that probably the apartment is only suitable for a single couple or a couple with small children.

Many thanks for your detailed description of the transport facilities available to guests in and around Pezenas. Not all of our guests have cars and it is clear from your description that it is not difficult to see lots of sights and generally enjoy the area using buses and trains. As far as the size of the second bedroom is concerned we have had all sorts of combinations of people stay in the apartment; couples with their mature children and four adults, and this is the first time we’ve had anyone comment on the size of the second bedroom. Perhaps as a couple having an extended visit during winter, it may have felt a little more claustrophobic. The emails we received from you made it clear that you enjoyed your stay and found the apartment very comfortable. We thank you for taking the time to write a review and for your generous rating.
