The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region
Although located in beautiful rural countryside Les Chardonnerets is just 3km from the RN21 which runs from Limoges to Perigueux, making it an ideal base for exploring the whole of the Dordogne and Limousin. The Périgord Vert is famous for its beautiful countryside, pretty villages, stunning châteaux and prehistoric caves - all of which you can discover as you explore the region.
Perigueux / Thiviers area
Within easy reach of Les Chardonnerets are the historic towns of Brantôme, Périgueux and St. Jean De Côle - which holds the official accolade of being one of the ‘prettiest villages in France’.
The Périgord-Limousin Natural Park provides a hilly, but not mountainous, landscape which is ideal for walking, cycling and horse riding. It is also home to a host of wild animals and rare birds. The 4 rivers which cross the region provide for excellent canoeing and fishing. Nearby inland beaches offer water activities including cable water skiing.
The Dordogne is renowned as the gastronomic centre of France and the Périgord Vert, in particular, is rich in local produce including tuffles, foie gras, duck & goose, walnuts and, of course, escargot ! These can be bought in the weekly local markets or enjoyed in the many superb restaurants nearby.
Excellent road links from Thiviers make Les Chardonnerets an ideal base for exploring all of the attractions of the Dordogne and Limousin. The medieval town of Sarlat, prehistoric caves at Lascaux, the vineyards of St Emilion and Bordeaux and the poignant ‘Village of the Martyrs’ near Limoges are all within easy day-trip distance.
