The Pays de la Loire region
The legendary Loire, listed as World Heritage by Unesco is the europ's last untamed river. Tuffeau stones and slate have lent their nuances to the somptuous buildings that stand on its banks. Discover the chateaux ,Renaissance homes, medieval fortresses: kings, artists and authors all had the right idea. Saumur, Angers, Brissac, Chenonceaux, Amboise, Chinon...all of these references to the past make the Loire an out-of-ordinary river.
The very highly regarded vineyards of Coteaux du Layon, Anjou-Brissac, Saumur-Champigny, Chinon, Vouvray are within easy access and local growers are always very pleased to welcome visitors for a tasting.
The cave galleries of tuffeau stone dug out of the rocks, formerly used to build chateaux are nowadays remarkable wine cellars, mushrooms cellars or troglodyte villages. The world famous zoo of Doue-la-Fontaine nested in a troglodyte cave is a few minutes drive away.
The village is located on St James trail, pilgrimage route to Spain in the Middle Ages.
For an unforgettable experience, try a flight over the area in a hot air balloon.
