About the home
In the heart of the southern Dordogne, Les Cerisiers is set on a quiet country lane just 700metres from Monpazier, listed as "One of the Most Beautiful Villages of France". Explore nearby historic Chateaux: Monbazillac, Biron, Milandes & Lanquais. Minutes to gorgeous villages like Beynac, Belves, Limeuil, La Roque Gageac, Sarlat, amazing caves like Grottes de Maxange or Proumeyssac, or glorious public gardens like Marqueyssac & Eyrignac. Dive into the bustling weekly village markets, or simply relax under a shady tree in the orchard, or just unwind on the front lawns overlooking Monpazier as the sun sets. In cooler months, settle before a cosy fire after a walk in the oak forests of Biron beyond.
Les Cerisiers, now a cosy couple's retreat, was the gatekeeper's cottage for Villa Ste Therese, which sits 70 metres away, beyond hedges, laurels & walnut trees, & shares the rambling four acre gardens. The Villa also hosts a weeklong culinary tour each Autumn for small, relaxed groups up to 9, indulging in the cuisine & culture of the Perigord.

Dine outdoors on the terrace and enjoy the garden views. Recent renovations have created a stylish, yet authentic, country cottage offering all modern amenities. A folding cot is available for couples with a very young baby.
Further details outdoors:
The grounds of Villa Ste Therese were landscaped 50 years ago, in the French tradition of a gentleman's country house - hedging, shaped shrubs, established large deciduous trees, creating a vista in all shades of green. A series of stone-walled terraces on the southern slopes lead down to the orchard below - a wonderful place to explore & enjoy...plums, figs, apples, peaches, walnuts, cherries...so help yourself if they're in season!
The northern lawn in front of Les Cerisiers has plenty of room for petanque, badminton, or volleyball. These wide lawns, plus large cherry trees, walnut trees and laurel hedges create privacy between Les Cerisiers & the Villa. We love the fact that we can walk into the village in 5 minutes & relax with a coffee just to watch the world go by! Monpazier's accredited as 'One of the Most Beautiful Villages in France' so we never tire of its ancient beauty and gentle pace.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region

Dordogne is renowned for its cuisine, iconic wineries, chateaux and rich history. Yet it is still such a peaceful setting for a relaxing holiday. It's the Land of 1001 Chateaux because at every bend is another stunning vista of an ancient chateau, and many are open for public visits. This area of the southern Dordogne is full of amazing medieval bastide villages, many of them having earned the title "One of the Most Beautiful Villages of France", such as Monpazier, La Roque Gageac, Beynac, Domme, Belves, Monflanquin. The climate is holiday-perfect most of the year, with pleasant sunny Spring days starting in April, then hot, clear summer weather til September. Autumn is still warm, but tranquil, with rich golden colors in the surrounding oak forests...another ideal time to visit.

Les Cerisiers is beautifully designed. Ideal for a romantic getaway. We spent many an evening watching the sunset go down over Monpazier. We had planned to travel more around the Dordogne but we struggled to drag ourselves away from the pool and Monpazier most days. It is a perfect distance from Monpazier as we felt quite secluded but every morning we walked into Monpazier for the daily ritual of buying croissants and sitting in the square for a cafe au lait. Monpazier is well served for some excellent restaurants. We spent our first week in France travelling around and racking up 2000 miles on roads, Les Cerisiers was the perfect excuse to just stop and relax for our second week. Rachel, Surrey |
