The grounds were landscaped 50 years ago, in the French tradition of a gentleman's country house - hedging, shaped shrubs, established large deciduous trees, creating a vista in all shades of green. A series of stone-walled terraces on the southern slopes make the gardens down to the orchard below a wonderful place to stroll and explore, while the northern lawn has plenty of room for petanque, table tennis, badminton, volleyball or even cricket. The 10m x 5m pool has a summer gazebo for midday shade. It is very deep at one end - almost four metres! Pool opens 1 June to end-September, weather permitting. The pool is for the exclusive enjoyment of Villa guests.
Welcome Kit on arrival. Credit cards accepted via Paypal secure payment.
A separate, private 'maison gardienne' (now a gite for couples) may also be rented during your stay (you can view Les Cerisiers at Property #177318). It is situated 70 metres away from the Villa, shielded by established trees, hedges and wide lawns. Owner responds directly to your email address within 24 hours. So drop us a line!
The Dordogne region
Dordogne is renowned for its cuisine, iconic wineries, chateaux and rich history. Yet it is still such a peaceful setting for a relaxing holiday. It's the Land of 1001 Chateaux because at every bend is another stunning vista of an ancient chateau, and many are open for public visits. This area of the southern Dordogne is full of amazing medieval bastide villages, many of them having earned the title "One of the Most Beautiful Villages of France", such as Monpazier, La Roque Gageac, Beynac, Domme, Belves, Monflanquin. The climate is holiday-perfect most of the year, with pleasant sunny Spring days starting in April, then hot, clear summer weather til September. Autumn is still warm, but tranquil, with rich golden colors in the surrounding oak forests...another ideal time to visit.
There's so much to see and do in this pocket of the Dordogne. Here's a sample of activities less than an hour's drive of the Villa:
Chateau Monbazillac (15km west); Chateau du Lanquais (18km north); Chateau Biron (6km south); Chateau des Milandes (20km north); Chateaux at Bonaguil, Castelnaud & Beynac
Hanging Gardens of Marquessac or Gardens of Eyrignac (both 30 & 45 mins drive north)
Amazing underground Caves: Font de Gaume (26km northeast); Grottes de Maxange (15km northwest); Gouffre de Proumeyssac (25km north)
Horseriding near Villereal (12km south) or Issigeac (20km west)
Treetop adventure park for children: Lacapelle de Biron (8km southeast)
Canoeing, river beach & boat cruises on the Dordogne: Limeuil, La Roque Gageac
Monpazier itself has many fetes & festivals throughout the year, such as:
May: annual flower festival
July: Bastille Day bodega & fireworks at night
July: annual Medieval Fair
Autumn: randonees (guided walks) in the nearby forest behind Biron - some torchlit by night
October: seasonal cepes (rare gourmet mushrooms) markets
December: annual truffle market & fete
Christmas: beautiful Christmas fairs & markets eg Sarlat

"Perfectly charming place in Monpazier"
I stayed in this lovely house in Monpazier in the middle of September with a group of friends. The house itself is spacious and comfortable, and furnished very tastefully. Everything you could possibly need is provided, plus more.
There are lots of spots around the beautifully maintained grounds where you can just sit, relax and enjoy the views. The terrace is an example of this, with its magnificent views across to the lovely bastide of Monpazier.
The entire area is a paradise for food lovers. Delicious cheeses, foie gras, seasonal meats and fresh vegetables, and delicious offerings of the various local markets in nearby villages. The bakeries were fabulous!
After my stay I went on to visit other parts of Europe. But Villa Ste Therese in Monpazier was the absolute highlight of my trip.

"Bliss.. What a find.. A true gem!"
I stumbled upon the website of this lovely house by pure chance and was drawn to the sheer quality of presentation.. photos, descriptions through the seasons etc The owner, Rosemary, was charming and so helpful with our enquiries regarding access for a disabled family member. The house was everything we hoped it would be and more. Nothing can prepare you for the location opposite a beautiful walled town or the way you can follow the sun around the gardens taking meals on different terraces.. Stunning! The owner has very cleverly furnished the villa to give the flavour of a historic French country house with lovely furniture and linens but it is not intimidating and balances style with practical holiday home needs. The beds were comfy, kitchen well equipped, pool was divine with loads of furniture and shade, space to walk and play outdoors and an orchard full of fruit waiting to be put into crumbles... What more could you ask for? Truly my favourite holiday home yet and would defiantly return!

"Perfect choice to celebrate our special anniversary."
Villa St Therese is very spacious inside and out. We booked Les Cerisiers also. At different times we all enjoyed walks in the interesting grounds and when the weather was cooler there was lots of space for everyone to relax independently inside. When it was warm enough we enjoyed eating, reading or chatting on the terraces. Our evenings were cooler and we had memorable meals in the dining room looking over the village. The village is just a 10 minute walk from the Villa and we were able to visit a bakery in the village daily to buy fresh baguettes and croissants, a real treat and very French. All in all, a very special fortnight!

"Luxury French Farmhouse experience within walking distance to lovely village"
Villa St Therese was everything we hoped for and more, the house has so much character and we adored all the different trees on the grounds. The children enjoyed the pool while the Adults had a drink on the terrace watching the sun go down and the lights in the village go on. Very practical for a group with so many bathrooms and en suites. We will definitely be back to the wonderful house and delightful village.

"Beautiful villa, well equipped and in a beautiful area of France"
Our trip was taken with 3 other couples from our Classic Car Club. It was my turn to organise the trip for this year, and I had the idea of renting a villa, which although we have holidayed together a couple of times before, we had always stayed in hotels to tour. The brief I had was that every couple wanted their own en suite, a private pool safe parking for our beloved jaguars and within a beautiful and interesting area of France. I can tell you that this is a tall order to fulfil! After hours of trawling the internet, I came across the Villa St Therese, and what a find that was!!
The owner Rosemary Vine was so helpful and provided us with details of the house and of of the area. The best was yet to come, when we arrived at the house, it was far more impressive that we had imagined, and all of us were impressed with the setting, the quality of furnishings and with how well equipped the house was. Monpazier and the surrounding area is stunning. The only drawback was that the weather wasn't kind to us, but we had a great stay all the same.

"Cosy, elegant, spacious, typically French and wonderful for a family Christmas."
We spent 4 wonderful weeks over Christmas and new Year in this beautiful Perigordian villa with its stunning views. The house is well-equipped, spacious and cosy. The ensuite bathrooms attached to each room made for a very harmonious stay for our family. Christmas was a joy. Christmas lights in villages were beautiful as was the Christmas market in Sarlat. Everything we needed for our celebrations could be bought in Monpazier itself or in Villereal just 15 minutes away. The bigger towns of Sarlat and Bergerac are also within comfortable driving distance. Local foie gras and truffle markets were interesting and educational. The weather was kind, but snow in January also made it a fairytale place.
The grandchildren, who have very busy lives at home, adored the chance to simply stay home on some days and play hide and seek and knights of old in the huge garden with its many secret places. The surrounding areas are full of wonderful places to explore in winter. Exploring the Bastide towns and their history was a fascinating exercise. The castles at Castelnaud, Beynac and Biron were especially interesting as were the troglodyte caves and dwellings and the grottoes in the Cadouin and Les Eyzies areas. Winter has two particular advantages: no crowds and the bare trees give you a wonderful chance to see architectural and natural treasures that are hidden in Summer. Although in January, many restaurants are closed, several are not. Bistrot 2 in Monpazier does wonderful food as does La Dolce Vita in Villereal. We cannot wait to come again. The photos do not do this place justice.
