The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region
Felines is ideally placed to explore the beauty, history and adventure of Languedoc. About 20 minutes drive to the north is Minerve – the famed Cathar village astride a river gorge with museums, restaurants, galleries, and beautiful walks. 30 minutes to the west is Carcassonne, the magnificent medieval walled cite, famously the backdrop of a number of movies. About 5 minutes away is the Canal du Midi, a pretty canal built in the 1660's - perfect for boat rentals, walks, and picnics.
Montpelier and Narbonne are 2 sizable towns that are great for day trips – explore their grand cathedrals, museums, markets, shopping centres, and numerous special events, concerts, and fetes. Ten minutes further on are sandy Mediterranean beaches that stretch for miles from Cap d'Agde to Gruissan Plage.
The region has numerous charming, picturesque villages such as Minerve and Lagrasse which have craft shops, wines caves, museums and abbeys to explore. You will also be amazed when you visit the mountain top castles at Queribus and Peyrepertuse.
Around the Minervois area there are also excellent opportunities for those interested in climbing and hill walking. Areas to be explored are the garrigue, the Corbieres and the Black Mountains.
The Pyrenees Mountains are about an hour and a half away to the South and offer some magnificent hill walks and rock climbing, white-water rafting, canyoning and 3 ski resorts, including Andorra.
Minervois / Felines area
Felines is a quaint little village with a number of local shops (2 small grocery shops, butcher, 3 wine cave cooperatives!), a bar and post office within 2 minutes walk.
The bread van selling baguettes and croissants stops in the village square at 10am every morning. Trausse, only 5 km’s away, offers a wider variety of shops and has a weekly market.
The village is situated at the heart of the Minervois, renowned for its red wines and is 5 mins away from the Lac de Jouarres, a small lake offering beaches, a cafe restaurant, swimming and water sports.
Activities such as golf, horse-riding (about 3 miles away in our neighbouring village), mountain-biking, tennis (1 court for public use in the village) to water sports are also popular in the region, as well as numerous fine restaurants for dining, and wine caves offering excellent wines for tasting (usually free) and purchasing at reasonable prices. There are 3 excellent wines caves within walking distance that offer excellent quality wine from 2 Euros per litre!
There are a number of excellent restaurants and a number of pubs that show football and rugby on large TV's within easy driving distance. The local village pub (2 mins walk away) is also excellent and has a TV, pool table, table soccer and french boules. Everyone in the village is very friendly and welcoming and you are sure to make some good friends in the short time you are with us.

Guestbook
The house is unusually large for property in its price range in Europe. This was great advantage as it allowed the kids to escape and gave me space to work on the research for my novel. The location in Felines Minervois is excellent, both as a place to live and as a base for visiting the Cathar country. Madame is a gem. John Wilson, California, USA
Thanks very much for lending the place to us. The holiday was very enjoyable and the village was lovely. We were amazed at all grapes and the lovely scenery. Again thanks for lending us the place and we will keep it in mind for another relaxing holiday. Mr Grech, London
We had a great time and would definitely go back. Mr Henry, Glasgow
