Paris is just 2 1/2 hours away on the train from Laval Station. So if you fancy a romantic short trip during your stay? Alternatively why not visit Disney Land Paris with the children? (The TGV is being upgraded and in 2014/15 Paris will be accessible in less than 2 hrs).
Jublains - a Gallo-Romaine cité which has a museum, ruins and amphitheatre.
Spa town of Bagnoles de l'Orne - Has a Casino if you like to try your luck! The town is lovely with lots of restaurants and shops. It is worth taking a walk around the lake and park next to the Casino. Of course if you want to treat your self to a Spa Day we have been told it is very reasonable! The Casino is also a restaurant and theatre.
Mézangers - a man made beach is 17 miles away & has great facilities including sandy beach, snack bar & playground area.
Mayenne and Varenne rivers are close by and you can hire boats and canoes hire.
For those that like to explore the war museums, relics and the D Day beaches, Normandy is worth a visit. There are other war museums in the area too.

Local attractions include Lassay-les-Châteaux with its 3 Châteaux, there are great tours of the chateaux through most of the year and the cottage is only 10 mins drive away. In Lassay there are several bars and restaurants all very reasonable and offering local cuisine. There is a rose garden in the centre and a childrens play area. A market is held on a Wednesday morning where you can buy bread, meat, fish and cheeses. You can't beat shopping at the market, having a walk around the chateaux and lake then enjoy a meal before heading off somewhere else! Lassay also has an open air pool, opening times can be found in the cottage.
There are several villages within short driving distance some offering more than others and lots of beautiful countryside!
If you are visiting mid July you stand a chance of being around for the Bastille Day celebrations on 14th July, this is always fun especially if the weather is good and the event is usually on for two days. Live music, entertainers, food and drink and a 'vide grenier' to search for those bargains!
Another village worth a visit is St Loup du Gast which is very close to Montreuil, they have a 'velo-rail' which is good fun, it is a very floral village and is the start of a lovely river walk too.
20 minutes drive away is Bagnoles de l'Orne a beautiful spa town with casino which also a a restaurant and theatre. Plenty of restaurants and bars in the town. There is a beautiful forest here for walks with activities to do along the way. There is also a 'go ape' area for the brave.!

"very cosy indeed"
A very homely little cottage. Warm and inviting. We spent a week in a cold January on a house hunting trip and were out most days so it was nice to come back to a warm house, open a bottle of wine, light the fire and relax. There is a beautiful garden just down the lane with great views but it was a bit cold for us to sit out when we were there. There was an excellent welcome pack, much appreciated after our journey.
Thank you for your lovely review! We are so glad you had a cosy warm stay. We hope to see you again one day on your return visit to France. Good Luck with everything! Kind Regards Jan and Duncan

A short break before the madness that is Christmas We had a lovely relaxing break in our cosy french escape. The welcome pack is most helpful as is all the local information about events. Thank you for letting us book so late Haven a great Christmas.
Glad you had a good break it was great to see you again! On your recommendation we went to see the lights in Laval and the lazer light show and thoroughly enjoyed it! We know you will be busy at Christmas but try and have a relaxing time and hope to see you again one day. Regards Jan and Duncan

"The best cottage we have ever stayed in in France"
We returned from Cosy Cottage 3 days ago and we cannot praise it enough. The owners Jan and Duncan are extremely friendly and helpful but don't bother you unless you need them. Everything was very clearly explained and demonstrated to us when we arrived. The welcome pack of wine, cider, bread, butter, cheese , eggs and milk was great, we have never had this provided before. The cottage is beautiful and tastefully decorated with lovely little touches like the wall mounted cork screw in the kitchen. All bedding and towels were provided which saved us space in the car as were basic kitchen condiments such as cooking oil. The amazing selection of DVD's books and games kept us occupied in the evenings and went down well with a bottle of wine or champagne! The cottage has so many attractions to visit within short driving times many of which were free or very cheap. We were so lucky with the weather we even visited the nearby "beach" at Sille de Guillaume and enjoyed a lovely walk around the lake. There are many attractions we did not have time to visit and we hope to return in the future to visit this beautiful part of France and meet Jan and Duncan again. We highly recommend this cottage, you will love it! Ps a selection of different sized bikes and helmets are available to use free of charge and a lovely garden with a BBQ .
Fantastic! So happy you were happy with the cottage! We would love to welcome you to the cottage again in the future and hope it will be very soon. Kind Regards Jan and Duncan

"Everything you could need in a holiday cottage"
Comfortable, cosy and very well equipped cottage in a super location - everything you could need in a holiday cottage. Extremely good value. Jan & Duncan were very welcoming but not intrusive .We particularly liked the excellent information in the cottage about the surrounding area, local attractions and French life in general. Hope to visit again soon.
Thank you so much for your lovely review. It was so nice to meet you both and we are so glad you had such a nice time, it would be great to see you again. Don't work too hard! Regards Jan and Duncan

"Beautiful, Cosy French Cottage"
We booked 'Our Cosy French Cottage' for 2 weeks as a base for our first holiday in France with our Westie. We arrived late because of a delay with the Le Shuttle and were welcomed by Jan and Duncan, who very kindly went through everything in the cottage and had a lovely welcome package of bread, eggs, butter, cheese, milk, wine and cider along with tea, coffee and sugar for a much needed brew! The cottage was very clean, tidy and had a lovely traditional French feel about it because of all the little touches and decoration. There are loads of games, books and DVD's to choose from and the use of the garden should you wish to do so. We had a lovely quiet and peaceful 2 weeks at Our Cosy Cottage and would thoroughly recommend the cottage...it was really nice meeting Jan and Duncan and we hope to be back again before too long!
Thank you so much for your lovely review. It was so lovely to meet you both and your gorgeous little westie. We are glad you had such a nice time, don't forget there is so much of the area still to explore. We are looking forward to your next visit. Thanks again Jan and Duncan

"Just what the doctor ordered"
Out hosts were warm and welcoming but gave us our space. The cottage is well equipped and beautifully cosy We would love to stay again as the Mayenne is a beautiful area we still need to explore.
Thank you for your lovely review. It was great meeting you both. We hope you do as the 'doctor orders' and come and see us again soon. As you know there is lots more of Mayenne for you to explore. Kind Regards Jan and Duncan

"Warm welcome to a Beautiful Cottage in a breathtaking location"
We arrived later than expected to a very pleasant welcome pack of french stick, butter, cheese, milk and eggs, a very generous unexpected and gratefully accepted surprise. The cottage is very clean, well stocked with everything you could think of - even down to a pizza cutter! The Sky TV, DVD, Stereo, Books, Board Games, Wifi, beach toys, bikes.....are all facilities provided which the owners have obviously thoughtfully provided to make the stay as comfortable as possible. The guest garden (inc chickens) was just lovely, we made use of the bbq also kindly provided by the owners. The owners have meticulously put together folders of things to see and do throughout the Loire Valley which we found very helpful to plan our excursions out. The local beaches (lakes) were brilliant for the little ones. We found the close town of Mayenne to have everything we needed for provisions. If your looking for a quiet, well located typically French holiday home we would thoroughly recommend The Cosy Cottage.
Thank you both for your very kind words. It was really great meeting you all and we are thrilled you had such a good time (that is obviously our aim) It would be great to see you again one day - enjoy the rest of the summer! Jan and Duncan

"First Gite` holiday in France."
Excellent cottage in an ideal position for touring around the countryside and local attractions. Locals very pleasant and helpful, likewise the owners who provided useful leaflets and recommendations of places to visit.
Thank you for your lovely comments and we are so glad you had a good time despite the weather! We only wish had a control over the weather, we are always so disappointed when it's wet for our guests! But if you can still have a good time despite the dodgy weather it can only be good. Hope to see you again one day!

"Beautiful cottage and wonderful owner's."
The Cottage is in a lovely quiet village with really friendly locals. The cottage is beautifully clean and well kept, keeping within the French rustic style it has everything you need with a fully equipped kitchen, sky freeview and free wifi. The owners have got a range of bikes for all ages and size’s along with helmets free for you to use. Under the sit in the hallway, there is a range of outside toys and games along with board games and cards in the lounge. My boys loved playing “Beat the Parents”, which I am convinced they kept cheating! There is so much to do with in the area for all different types of budgets, we went to the Animal sanctuary which the boys loved as you can get up close the animals. There is a small cafe and play area for children also and it wasn’t very busy. In Lassay we went to see the medieval castle, the tour guide was English but spoke perfect French, there is also an outdoor swimming pool not far from there. Mayenne town is just a 10 minute down away, where we hired boats and walked along the river, so beautiful. The cafes and restaurants are very well priced and the staff are lovely the food is even better. We went to Le Mans to see the 24 hour race track which was more interesting for hubby and boys, this was about an hour and half away but if you like care and racing then well worth the trip, but Le Mans is also famous for it’s Roman wall, and old streets. We was very impressed with how clean and tidy the whole of French is. It was so helpful having the owners living next door, as they are on hand if you need any help or directions but most of the time you don’t even know they are there, it never felt uncomfortable with them there, our boys where still loud. This is our second holiday at the cottage and we will be returning.
Wow what a lovely review, thank you so much for your kind words. We are so glad you had a such a good time again and it was lovely seeing you and your lovely family again.

"A lovely cottage in a quiet village in pretty rural surroundings."
We chose this cottage as it seemed to be pretty, typically French and child-friendly. We were not disappointed. The owners, Jan & Duncan, are very welcoming and helpful and everything we needed was there - baby cot, baby bath, stair gates. The cottage is immaculate - it is quaint and typically French and the garden is tranquil with lovely views. Jan & Duncan had left us a welcome pack including tea, coffee & wine. They have done lots of research into nearby places to visit with information in folders - this gave us plenty of ideas and we were never short of places to go. We had a lovely fortnight and would happily book again.
Thank you so much for lovely comments, it was so nice to meet all of you and feel almost proud that your baby broke his teeth and stood up for the first time in our cottage! LOL! Hopefully we will see you again one day. Regards Jan and DuncanX
