The Island of Malta region
The warmth of the Mediterranean sun, the clarity of the Mediterranean sea and the welcoming smiles of the Maltese people have won the hearts of visitors for years, but this tiny island also offers a host of diverse attractions and activities for those seeking a short break from the winter blues.
From balmy beaches and trendy nightclubs, to magnificent ancient monuments and a stunning legacy of centuries' old art and culture, Malta has something for everyone to enjoy.
Life is good on the Mediterranean island of Malta: warm sunshine, starry nights and lots to do, see, taste, feel and remember. Whether you're just visiting for a few days or spending a long lazy month on the island, you'll find Malta is alive with people, parties and events whatever the season. From summer jazz festivals and lunchtime concerts to thrilling theatre, music and arts events that pack the island's cultural calendar all year round.
Malta's strategic position midway between Europe and Africa made it a key possession for the many different conquering nations that ruled it throughout its 7000 years of history: from Neolithic man to the Ancient Romans, the Byzantines, the Moors, the Normans, the Knights of St John, the French and the British, all of whom have left a wealth of architectural and cultural treasures.
From the Baroque city of Valletta, a churches, galleries, shops, open air markets and boasting the remarkable St John's Co-Cathedral, home to Caravaggio's masterpiece the Beheading of St John, to the old capital, Mdina, the so-called 'Silent City, that quietly evokes a bygone era with its elegant stone palaces and hushed cobbled streets, to the St Paul's Catacombs in Rabat, Ggantija Neolithic Temples in Gozo, the World War II shelters and the Forts of St Elmo and St Angelo. In summer, get ready to enjoy firework fuelled village feasts in honour of village saints.
For those seeking adventure and an adrenaline rush, an early morning dive in the crystal clear waters of the Med checking out old war ships might be the thing to set your pulse racing, or test your endurance rock climbing high above the deep blue sea on the majestic Dingli Cliffs or head to the airport and enjoy the view from above with a skydiving jump. Wind down afterwards with a leisurely round of golf and afternoon tea on the lawns. The stunning historical settings of Valletta, Mdina or St Julians make the perfect backdrop to relaxation, sightseeing, concerts or sports.
Evenings are fun filled and full of activity: start with a typical Mediterranean fish dinner under the stars and continue with a buzzing night in one of Malta's many sophisticated nightlife venues. There's lots of choice too... pick from one of the hundreds of restaurants and cafes serving a wide range of local and international cuisine, and enjoy the island's vibrant nightlife, with its myriad pubs, wine bars, jazz clubs, discos, nightclubs and casinos offering entertainment for all ages.
Madliena area
Madliena's pristine location between two valleys of Swieqi and Gharghur provides a perfect opportunity for countryside walks. This hamlet is located on one of the highest points on the island (130m) thus helping to 'cool' down the hot summer nights with its gentle breeze off the nearby coastal areas. From this vantage point one can see right across the island, all the way from Marsaxlokk, to Mdina, Valletta, and on a clear day, also the northern towns of the island.
An important feature in Madliena are the Victoria lines where a natural fault runs roughly east to west across the island. It was the British who, between 1870 and 1900 built a series of four forts with intervening walls, gun emplacements and redoubts along the 12km of the ridge (an outstanding example of Victorian military architecture). Because of its vantage point, Madliena was mostly used for military reasons with the most important site in this respect being the Madliena Tower (within short walking distance and available for public viewing and visits).
Within close vicinity, one can also find the Meditteraneo Water Park, Malta’s only marine park. This is a popular place for both Maltese and tourists alike with its many water rides, attraction pools, and marine park, where one can also swim with dolphins.
The pool and garden areas have proven to be a refreshing start or close to any day, particularly if this was a warm or even a blistering one. But Malta has much more to offer than just lazing about in the sun. For this reason we have teamed up with some of the most interesting tour, leisure and event operators on the island, providing day cruises around the Maltese archipelago on a Turkish gullet, an evening’s entertainment extravaganza live show on the 1565 Great Siege of Malta, a visit to the nearby water marine park, an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime experience swim with the dolphins, or how about exploring some of the most interesting dive sites in the Mediterranean,. In collaboration with our friends at Go Dive Malta, we are now also able to offer this experience to practically everyone, from beginners to dive masters. Transport arrangements have also been secured for all these events to pick our guests from our apartments (or very close by). We have been called ‘a home away from home’ by some of our past guests, a name which honours us completely, and while we continue to dispense recommendations on what to do and where to go during your stay to help you better discover these culture-packed islands, we will strive to live up to that name and better our product.
How to get there
Following the introduction of low budget airlines to Malta from both England and Italy, other than the national airlines of each concerned country, flying to the island has never been easier and cheaper.
Getting to your villa apartment is not particularly difficult but one does tend to get lost on our roads, especially if this is your first time to the island. For this reason, we will always make it a point to meet you at Malta’s international airport located at Luqa.
The drive is approximately 20 minutes away, just past Paceville, the island’s entertainment hub, but far enough to be away from it all in this most sought after area.
We also engage our own car hire agent to ensure that reliable and cheaper rates are obtained should you prefer to explore the island behind a wheel.

Guestbook for Villa Apartments - Colours
Mailys - France - May 2009 I spent 6 days in the orange flat whit my boyfriend, we really enjoyed the stay. The place was clean, well conceived and well equipped. We had access to the owners' garden and it was so beautiful, we were able to take advantage of the swimming pool, the jacuzzi, the barbecue, the deckchairs and the garden's furnitures. The pool is heated by solar panels so the temperature is really pleasant at any time of the day. The owners are lovely, they arranged for us the car hire, but they also picked up at the airport. The property is in a very quiet and great district, on the top of the hill, the bus station is down the hill so it's better to have a car to visit easily the island. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to be in a beautiful place and have ideal holidays.
Jackson - London - September 2009 There were 6 of us staying at the property & we used both the Sky Blue and Orange apartments. Both of which were spotlessly clean and fully equipped. The garden & pool area is lovely and well maintained and we spent most days here. The apartments are approx 5-10 minutes drive from the main areas of Paceville & St Julians and car hire would be recommended although there is also a frequent bus services which pass by the area taking you to many different places throughout the local areas. The owners of the property Josanne & Paul are the nicest people you could meet. They provided us with lots of information on places to visit, bars, restaurants etc etc. They made us feel like we were part of their family. Very welcoming & friendly and always there to help if you need them. We would 100% reccommend this property to friends and we are looking into the possibility of returning in the near future.
Meyers - Belgium - June 2009 We had a wonderful time! The place is very well kept, safe for children (we were there with our little boy aged two), the owners know what hospitality is all about and very helpfull whenever any help/advise is needed.
Simon & Robyn - London - September 2008 This was a wonderful villa, with a good sized flat, and wonderful facilities such as barbeque, swimming pool and jacuzzi. Its also quite high up so when its hot, there's a lovely breeze. Paul and Josanne who own the complex are very friendly and helpful. When we were there, we got picked up from the airport, were given a welcome basket, and were given food and drink throughout our stay, even though it's self service. They gave us plenty of lifts (we had no car, which meant getting around was tricky), and generally made us feel at home. It helped make the holiday very relaxing. In conclusion, we really didn't want to leave. This place is very nice, but what really makes it are Paul & Josanne
Jo, Mike & Kids - Manchester - May 2009 We stayed in the Yellow apartment from the 21/5-2/6 and can honestly say this was one of the best holiday experiences we have had. We are a family of 4 (10yr old boy, 8yr old girl) & are used to travelling independently, and we couldn't have made a better choice. After searching through a number of properties on the website we spotted the Yellow apartment and knew straight away it was the one for us-the pics and the description seemed just what we were after so we made contact with Jo & Paul & after exchanging a few mails the deal was done. When we arrived they had arranged for us to be collected at the airport (included in the price) & I can highly recommend this. After a 15min journey we were greeted by Jo & Paul (and dogs & cats!) The apartment was prepared for us complete with a fab welcome basket with bread, cheese, snacks and even a bottle of wine. We were soon lounging by the pool & though Jo & Paul were always around if we needed anything, they were never intrusive and if we did need to ask them anything they couldn't have been more helpful. The gardens are shared with 2 cats and 3 large dogs (as described-they live in a separated section), but don’t be put off by this at all as they befriended our kids immediately and soon the kids were taking them for morning/evening walks with Paul and also helping to feed the fab Koi carp-activities which they absolutely adored. The apartment, pool and grounds were immaculate and well kitted out with all the facilities we could have ever needed-we had a bbq pretty much every night as the weather was great, we had washing/drying facilities and satellite tv should the kids be bored!. The house is at the top of a fairly steep hill which wouldn't be ideal for some (very old/infirm/very young maybe) but there were 2 supermarkets (one of which delivers FOC), a small bar, a small restaurant, a pharmacy and the local bus stop at the bottom of the hill. You could easily use it as either just a base for exploring the island (either using the good bus network like we did or by hiring a car) or for spending 2 weeks soaking up the sun and swimming in the pool. By the end of the holiday we had become firm friends with Jo and Paul (and also their son!)-they played with the kids in the pool and at chess/Scrabble, joined us for bbq's and also drinks in the lovely gardens. We couldn't recommend this highly enough-thanks to our wonderful hosts and we will definitely be back!
Linda - Crete - September 2008 and June 2009 Words fail me, as do the pictures on the webpage. Staying at this apartment gave my son and I a most incredible holidy with sharing and caring hosts. The grounds were stunning and immaculately kept and the apartment was cozy and inviting. Most importantly, though, was the warm and heart-felt welcome we received from Paul and Joseanne, who not only opened their home but their hearts to us. The best part of this holiday was not even the holiday, but making wonderful friends! They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and welcome. Thank you for everything, and we will be back!
Hotchkiss - Brighton - August 2008 The pictures on this website looked great, but you never quite know if they are a true representation of what awaits you. In this case the property well lived up to it's description and more! We had a fabulous time, the property, grounds and pool are stunning. Our hosts, Paul and Josanne were brilliant, friendly & unobtrusive but always there when we needed them. They arranged our hire car for us, picked us up from our hotel where we had stayed a few days on arrival in Malta and took us to see the apartment, invited us over for drinks etc. We had BBQ's together too. You would definitely need a hire car because it is a little out of the way but the peace and quiet well made up for it. The apartments are well furnished, have air con (bliss!), super showers, washing machine, tumble dryer, sky TV, DVD player, stereo & full kitchen. We stayed in apartment 1, we saw apartment 2 and 3 and they were just as good as ours. Our daughter was delighted to have the task of feeding the fish and the turtles daily and also very pleased to have 3 cats to play with (not sure how delighted the cats were ...poor things!!) My only concern was ensuring that my 2 year old didn't wander off and fall in the pool/ponds but it was fine. There were gates everywhere and not once did we have to worry, all in all as safe as you can be. Thanks for a great stay we will be sending many people your way and hope to come back ourselves one day.
