Limoges / Eymoutiers area
Eymoutiers, on the banks of the River Vienne, is an attractive upland town of tall, stone houses crowding round an historic eleventh century Romanesque church. At 417 metres high it is one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Limousin. It has a good selection of shops, restaurants and an excellent supermarket. The area is free of congestion.
The chic city of Limoges, a mini Paris, is only 35 kilometers away, with trains to it from Eymoutiers.
Lake Vassiviere, France's "inland sea", 15 kilometers from Eymoutiers, is a paradise of six beaches and water sports.
In and around Eymoutiers, or within a 45 minutes or less drive, there are a host of wonderful sporting, cultural and great family fun amenities.
Sport: Golf, tennis, fishing, biking, walking/hiking, kyaking, karting, quad driving, swimming, horseriding, and rock climbing.
Family Fun ; have great family fun at Park Bellvue, Feeriland, Aquarium du Limousin, Zoo Park du Reynou, D'arb en Arbe, the fascinating La Cite de Insectes, or a ride on the steam train.
Culture: This Limousin region of France has earned worldwide fame for craftmanship: enamelling, porrcelain, tapestry etc. A number of workshops give guided visits to these crafts.
Art lovers and artists will enjoy this region's serious share of museums dedicated to all periods of art. The art and architecture of previous centuries is carefully preserved in the region's chateaus, houses and churches. There are many interesting museums and interpretative centres in the region.
