The Loire Valley / Mayenne region

Forget the stress and crowds.Leave the beaten track behind and discover a different kind of holiday.Burgeoning greenery as far as the eye can see, infinitely varied nuances of granite on facades worn by the ages, a few cows here and there and hedges parcelling out a landscape on a human scale.Rediscover sensations you'd forgotten.Walking, birdsong in the trees, complete relaxation and a thousand causes for amazement, a thousand reasons to explore.History, land, water and excitement.
Explore the beautiful city of Fougeres with its historic fortifications or relax on the beach by the swimming Lake which is located in a beautiful forest with cycle tracks, walks and other activities. The fine medieval cities of Laval, Mayenne and Vitre are all within a short distance. When you have seen the sites, why not hire a boat and cruise up the river Mayenne.
Mont St Michael is approximately one hour away with guided tours of the Abbey. On the way is the beautiful Cathedral of Pontmain which is about 15 minutes drive. The fortified city of St.Malo is well worth a visit with it's pretty harbour and numerous beaches.
For the children there are theme parks with water slides and zoos
The Levare area
The area is gently undulating countryside with long quiet country lanes, ideal for walking, biking and fishing. In Levare (approx 2KM) the recently refurbished and extended bar/restaurant (Le Bacchus) is recommended and Nadine is sure to give you a warm welcome. There is also a bakery in the village and an ancient Chateau which is open from the begining of July till the end of September. The town of Gorron (approx 4 KM) has a number of shops and restaurants. There is a good Swimming pool with outside access in the Summer and tennis courts.Canoes and rowing boats can be hired on the river and there is a golf course and other outdoor activities which include wire walking in the trees.

What a beautiful barn conversion - spacious, 4 bedrooms, huge lounge & kitchen. I have stayed in a lot of self catering holiday homes in the past & this is up there with the best & the kitchen is the best equipped yet. The surrounding area is excellent with lots to do - the Medieval towns of Fougeres & Vitre are great and its a lovely trip to Mount De St Michel and St Malo. Great value too. |

Service was very good, with people easy to contact if there was a problem or if we had a question. The property was lovely, in a beautiful quiet location, and had a good range of facilities- such as a bbq, table tennis table, bikes and football table (however, they could do with being better maintained, as could the pool.) The local village of Levare has a bakery which sells excellent produce; and in the town of Gorron, there are bars, restaurants, and supermarkets - both Levare and Gorron are within easy reach. A welcome pack was available on our arrival, with bread, wine, beer and cheese. |

We had a really lovely time. We were very impressed with the barn which was just gorgous (you should have been on Grand Designs) and there was loads of room for the kids. They loved the pool and practically lived in it for the whole week! We would definitely consider staying there again and would probably bring more family members with us. Many thanks for a lovely holiday. Kathryn,Jon,Lucy,Joseph and Emma.
