Further details outdoors

The house is set on an elevated site with landscaped gardens. There is a small terrace to the side of the house equipped with table and chairs and garden bench. This is a sun trap and takes the sun for most of the day. A small stream and waterfall runs beside this terrace.Sea views to the front of the terrace. The front terrace is accessed by both the sitting room and the family room and leads onto the lawned area with panoramic views over Killary Harbour. This takes the sun from approximately midday to sun set. Table and chairs are on this terrace with more stored away. Cushions are stored in the house. To the side of the house is a purpose built car park which takes 4/5 cars and leads to a gated drive behind the house which would provide more parking if needed. There is a sweeping drive down to the road , the gradient is quite severe and there are steps down to the road through the garden for easy access.

Further details

Stoneacre is set high on an elevated site to give maximum views from the house. The site is set part way up a mountain and the site was broken out of the rock , because of this there are steep drops both from the land behind the house and from the front terrace onto the drive. We would therefore suggest that it would be unsuitable for children who would not recognise the dangers .

The Western Ireland region

Stonacre is set on the northern boundary of Galway and Mayo on the west coast of Ireland this area has the wonderful advantage of the Gulf Stream and carries a mild climate throughout most of the year. Full of glorious beaches and mountain ranges there is something for every one . Walkers just need to set foot out of the door and Golfers are in paradise with so many golf courses within easy reach of the house, at least 5 within an hour drive. (See Golf Today website) Fly fishing is available with the famous Delphi Fishery and The Erriff Fisheries 10 minutes away. Galway and Mayo have many lochs, Loch Corrib and Loch Mask being famous for their brown trout. Boats are easily hired and the services of a Gilly are optional. The golden beaches with their Atlantic rollers offer great wind surfing and the clear aquamarine seas are ideal for the Scuba divers. There are numerous towns, Westport, Clifden , Oughterard, all delightful to the tourist interested in seeing that something a little differant. The famous Twelve Bens are set in Galway and are close to Letterfrack, the gateway to the Connermara National Park. . Sea Fishing is available from many places along the coast of Galway.

Leenane is a small village with a population of about 100.Set at the head of Killary Harbour, the only Ffiord in Ireland, It relies mainly on tourism but there are still working farms in the area. There is a pleasant mix of locals and holiday home owners and all live well together. There are two churches RC and Cof I a local clinic a small library. is also available to visitors. Several beaches are within easy driving distance (15-25 mins) there is great choice and they are very sparcely populated because of abundance and size. With golden sands and aquamarine rollers they are ideal for swimming, windsurfing or just picnicing. The Twelve Bens are close to Leenane and the Victorian Gardens of Kylemore Abbey 15 minutes away. Ashford Castle at Cong is 45 minutes and well worth the trip. Westport is 30 minutes away with Westport house and zoo open to the public. Connermara National Park with its walks and drives is just 20 minutes away.
