La Braudière was built in the 19th century, to operate the barrier over the railway line. Nowadays, the railway is just a distant memory, leaving a legacy of miles of leafy, tree lined paths, meandering through woods and open countryside.
This sturdy stone house, with its sky blue shutters, thick stone walls and buttery yellow exterior, has been thoughtfully renovated, with lots of original features – a successful blend of original character and modern comfort. It is simply and tastefully furnished, and the overall effect is bright, light and fresh.
Set on its own, the house is surrounded by fields, tracks, rivers and woodlands, perfect for exploring by foot or bike (bring your bikes, if you can). You're not too far from civilisation, however, as only 2 kms away is the village of La Trimouille, where you will find shops, restaurants, cafes, boulangerie, pharmacy, tourist office, and cinema.
Located in the department of the Vienne, with its peaceful countryside, ancient castles and medieval towns and villages, La Braudière provides a brilliant base for a great holiday. Enjoy the local amenities - the aroma of freshly baked baguettes from the nearby boulangerie, is truly mouthwatering. Settle into the slower pace of French life with a leisurely amble through the lanes, rich with wildlife. Explore the many tourist attractions of the area. Or simply sit in the garden, with a glass of wine, enjoying the spectacular night skies. Whatever you enjoy, there is something for everyone.
Downstairs there is an airy and light filled living room with original fireplace and cosy woodburning stove. There is a modern, well equipped, fitted kitchen with seating for 4 people. The bath/shower room is also light filled and spacious.
Upstairs, there are two bedrooms. The master bedroom is roomy and comfortable with an antique French bed, wardrobe and wash basin, and the second bedroom has twin beds and chest of drawers.
The garden is enclosed – at the front of the house, there is a pretty, gravelled front garden with table, chairs and private parking. At the back of the house, there is a lawned area, a further table and chairs, and steps leading up to a large grassy field – perfect for outdoor games and football.

The Poitou-Charentes region
The Poitou Charente is a region rich in culture, activities and natural beauty. Known as one of the sunniest regions in France, it is found on the Atlantic coast, and is surrounded by the chateaux of the Loire valley to the north, the vineyards of Bordeaux to the south, with the rolling countryside of the Limousin and the mountains of the Massif Central to the East.
Inland, you will find the tranquil and historic department of the Vienne, with it's peaceful countryside, rich in wildlife, ancient castles and numerous medieval towns and villages. It is also often known as The Land of Futuroscope - one of the most popular tourist attractions in France.
There is much to see and do in the area, making it a brilliant base for your holiday. The immediate location is perfect for walking and cycling. Setting out from La Braudière, you can take one of the many designated walks, wander towards the village of Journet with it's bar/restaurant in one direction, or La Trimouille, 2 kms away.
For an active, family holiday, there are many possibilities. Here are just a few of those available. There are several animal parks in the area. Located just outside La Trimouille, the terrific Isle de Serpents is literally on your doorstep. With around 60 species of snakes, lizards, tortoises and other reptiles, feeding time is an experience not to be missed! Just 40 minutes away, there is The Planète de Crocodiles, housing an impressive selection of crocodiles and alligators, in a lush, tropical setting. A little further is The Vallée de Singes (Monkey Valley), unique in France. Set in a large, wooded park, with 30 species of primates, it boasts the largest Chimpanzee Territory in Europe.
There are a few swimming lakes in the general area, with man made beaches and other facilities. Around 30 minutes away, the nearest is Chaillac, which has a lake with water chute, sandy beach, playground and café. A similar distance away is Lathus, which is a great outdoor activity centre. There is also a large horse riding centre and many other activities available, such as archery, mountain biking, hiking, and small animal farm.
However, if you are interested in the area's rich history, there are a number of picturesque and historic towns to visit.
Montmorillon – the peaceful “City of Writing” is just 20 minutes away. This has winding alleys, ancient churches and a fabulous setting on the edge of the River Gartempe. There is also Chauvigny, which has a great market, and large choice of restaurants. Most notably, though are the castle ruins, perched high on the hill, with their panoramic views of the city. The spectacular falconry show is an amazing site, with birds of prey, and many other bird species from around the world, circling the castle ramparts.
Last, but certainly not least, is Futuroscope – 1 hour away. This famous theme park provides an amazing day out for all the family. An unmissable experience, including breathtaking shows and interactive adventures in giantscreen format.

"Charming property in lovely secluded spot yet close to the village."
This beautiful house has been lovingly restored by the owners from the "railway mans" accommodation to a charming holiday home. Furnishings are to a very high standard and represent the very best in French rural chic. The house is located adjacent to the old rail track bed where the crossing supervisor would ensure safe passage for trains and road users. The railway and line has long gone, but the track bed remains, providing wonderful walks to the nearby village of La Trimouille in one direction and the open countryside on the other, La Trimouille has lots to do for visitors including fishing and canoeing on La Benaize river. The region provides fabulous walking and cycling .
