The Rhone / French Alps / Savoie region

The combined La Plagne & Les Arcs 'Paradiski' area offers enormous opportunities for skiers of all abilities - a truly enormous winter playground.
Chalet de la Vanoise is in the Tarentaise Valley with stunning views onto the Mont Blanc, and being only 30 mins drive from Italy, this is a superb base for setting out to explore the area.
The La Plagne / Montchavin area
Montchavin is a traditional farming village that is lived-in all year round. It was linked into the La Plagne ski area in the 70s.
In addition to skiing, (downhill and cross country) there are lots of winter activities; husky sledge races, ice walking, bob-sleigh running on the Olympic run at La Plagne, ice skating and para gliding.
Combined with the help of the ski lifts in the summer, cyclists and walkers can easily access altitude and view the scenery up to 3000 metres.
The area is rich in thermal spas and has a variety of venues offering therapeutic treatments all year round. In the summer Montchavin has a swimming pool and a full programme of children's activities each week.

| Nearest Travel Links | |
| Airport: | Chambery: 70 km |
| Railway: | Landry: 7 km |
Train. It is only 7 kms to the closest train station to the chalet and you do not need a car during the summer and the winter season as everything you need is in resort. The snowtrain and Eurostar stop in the winter regularly and trains from the UK are easy all year round. We can collect from the train station.
Plane. There is a huge choice of airports (closest in order) Chambery, Geneva, Lyon, Grenoble, Turin and even Milan. We can arrange transfers from all airports and Chambery is just over an hour away. Go to Dohop.com to see who flies to your closest airport to these destinations. Contact us for a pdf file with directions.
Automobile. We do have a large private car park and recognise that driving is sometimes the easiest option particulary with children and shopping on board. Access to the chalet is easy all year round with the road being cleared of snow every day when it has snowed. We are 9 hours from Calais and only 20 minutes from the larger towns of Bourg St Maurice and Aime. There is plenty to see in the region so having a car is very hand. We find aferrry.com offers good deals on ferry crossings.
Bikes. We have private and safe bike storage for mountain and road bikes. We can secure garaging for motorbikes if needed. We have a workshop for any work needed on bikes.

Guestbook for Chalet de la Vanoise
Along with a group of friends and family, we decided to have a Christmas ski holiday and were so glad we chose Chalet de la Vanoise in the small Alpine village of Montchavin, part of the Paradiski ski area. The village itself is traditional in style with a mixture of new and old buildings, lots of which were beautifully decorated for the festive season. The atmosphere was perfect, particularly when the Christmas market was in full swing. As far as ski-ing goes we are a mixed ability group with a couple of non-skiers thrown into the mix but Montchavin had more than enough to offer everyone in the group. The chalet is located about 10 minutes walk from the village centre and is in an enviable position overlooking the valley with far-reaching views to the mountains beyond. The ski bus runs past the chalet and was a boon for tired legs although we soon discovered it was possible to ski almost to the door from the end of the piste at the top of the road. Our hosts, Lee and Kevin, along with their three children and Enzo, the dog, were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. They ordered our ski passes so that they were ready and waiting for us when we arrived and they arranged for our ski equipment to be delivered and fitted at the chalet which was a real bonus. The chalet itself is well thought out, over several floors, and the arrangement of bedrooms worked well for our group, with a triple room and adjoining bunk room making a great den for our girls. They particularly appreciated the adjoining dressing room with its huge wall mirror! The living room was spacious enough for the 13 of us and we were easily able to sit round the large dining table. The sauna was fabulous and great for relaxing in at the end of a hard day. The kitchen was very well equipped, with everything we needed to prepare a delicious Christmas lunch complete with organic turkey ordered and collected by our hosts. The village has a small but reasonably well stocked supermarket as well as a bakery which delivered our daily order of bread and croissants. As far as downsides go, it's hard to find fault with any aspect of the holiday. From the fabulous location to the superb hospitality offered by our hosts, we enjoyed it all and are hoping to return before too long.
