The Paphos region

Paphos has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. It is known as the birthplace of the legendary Greek goddess of love and beauty Aphrodite, and it is where her temple was erected by the Myceneans in the 12th century B.C. Between Paphos and Limassol is Petra tou Romiou or "Aphrodite's Rock", the very spot where the legendary goddess of love is said to have emerged from the foaming waves.
Near the harbour will find the House of Dionysos and admire the most impressive mosaics depicting familiar scenes from mythology. The remains of villas, palaces, theatres, fortresses and tombs mean that the whole area is of exceptional architectural and historic value. The mosaics of Nea Paphos are among the most beautiful in the world. St. Paul’s Pillar is located on the site of Ayia Kyriaki, and is where modern Anglican and Catholic weddings take place. Indeed Paphos in its entirety is like one big museum, with rich history around every corner. The town of Paphos is included in the official UNESCO list of cultural and natural treasures of the world's heritage.
A visit to the Tombs of the Kings is a must while in Paphos. The site is situated just on the edge of the town, on the road to Coral Bay. Buses will take you there, but there is a large car park if you are driving. The tombs are situated on a cliff above the sea, with stunning views, and the site covers about a square mile. No Kings were entombed here, but the grandeur and scale of the tombs earned them their title. It was actually a large burial site for nobles and dignitaries. Any evidence of burials and burial goods have long gone, but what you will see is an elaborate necropolis cut out of the living rock. Columns around submerged courtyards, with visible nooks for bodies and offerings to the dead are evident, which are reminiscent of sites in Egypt. It is a truly fascinating place.
Paphos Castle has a colourful history as a fort and prison under many administrators. It is located on the edge of Paphos harbour, and was originally built as a Byzantine fort to protect the harbour. It was then rebuilt by the Lusignans in the thirteenth century after being destroyed in the earthquake of 1222. In 1570 it was dismantled by the Venetians. After capturing the island in 1586, the Ottomans restored and strengthened it, and it was last actively used by the British. More recently the castle serves as a backdrop to the annual open air Paphos cultural festival which takes place in September. It was declared a listed building in 1935 and represents one of the most distinctive landmarks of the city of Paphos. Open daily to 6 PM (in summer).
The Akamas Peninsula, a wild area of outstanding natural beauty, is located very close to Paphos. A day may not be enough to explore the deep gorges the wild landscape and the sandy bays. This is an area of great biodiversity and ecological significance. Home to 530 plant species, it remains largely unspoilt to date mainly thanks to its inaccessibility. A jeep safari excursion to the region is truly a breathtaking experience.
The Kato Paphos / Universal Gardens area
The Diana Gardens complex is on the outskirts of the large Universal Gardens residential area. It is on the eastern (airport) side of Paphos, just 15 minutes drive (15km approx) from Paphos airport, with regular flights from throughout the UK. Within 15 minutes drive (15km approx) there are 4 superb golf courses : Tsada, Secret Valley, the fantastic Aphrodite Hills, which also caters for horse riding and tennis, and the brand new Faldo designed Elea course, only 10 minutes away.
The nearest bar & restaurant (Pambi's) and shop are just a five minute walk from the complex. The municipal beach and indoor bowling are all less than 5 minutes drive away. Paphos old town, with its many historic buildings, market, and many boutiques & shops, is just a 5 minute drive. The many bars, clubs & bustling nightlife of Kato Paphos are a fifteen minute walk, and the beautiful harbour and Castle are a twenty minute walk. And Kato Paphos is famous for its huge array of top quality restaurants, catering for all tastes and budgets.
Local bus no,603, which stops at the entrance to Diana Gardens, costs just 1 Euro (Kids FREE) and goes to the harbour area, from where other buses connect throughout the locality, for the same price.
Paphos Karting, 5 minutes drive away, has 1,600 metres of pure adrenaline, combining twisting bends and long straights with flowing corners. Hold on tight around the two sweeping half handers as you approach the tunnel and make your way over the bridge! The main track has Bambino, Cadet, Pro Karts, Super Karts, Twin Engine Karts and Thunder Karts. There is also a kiddies track with four types of karts: Turbo Turtle, Quad Bikes, Super Wheels and Safari Jeeps. The centre also offers a Café, rest room, Snack Bar and Crazy Golf for the whole family.
The Paphos Aphrodite Water Park, also about 5 minutes drive away, is a large, impressive, and very nicely themed, water park. Plenty of slides to keep all ages amused, as well as lazy river rides, wave machines, and everything else you've come to expect from the best water parks.

Guestbook for Diana Gardens Luxury Apartment
"The description of the apartment was completely accurate and well described. I could find no fault with it whatsoever as all of the rooms were large, air conditioned and great facilities included throughout. The apartment is ideally located, just outside the town with a large supermarket just a ten minute stroll away and a bus stop across the road from the complex which myself and my partner found to be excellent as it can take you to many great tourist locations around the area. I would highly recommend this apartment to people of all ages who are looking for a relaxing getaway." - Denise from Co. Kildare, Ireland
"This was an excellent property which catered for all all our needs. With children of mixed ages there was plenty to do with the swimming pool and the sky tv/dvd combo. With a bus route close to the apartment complex its very cheap to travel to the harbour and waterpark. Its a very friendly complex in a lovely location. Thank you very much for making our holiday so much more lovely and exciting" - Chris from Salcombe, Devon
"Very excellent and clean apartment. Very comfortable for a family, the only thing that I did not like was the fact there was no local tv channels thats all." - Helen from Nicosia
"Very spacious, well equipped apartment which exceeded our expectations. This was our first time renting an apartment separately from a package holiday and I would recommend it to anyone. We had a fantastic holiday at Diana Gardens and will be booking again next year." - Tim from Abergele
"Great apartment great pool and complex." - Chris from Manchester
"Beautiful apartment with great location if looking for that relaxation and peace. Lovely pool and terrace area. Everything you could need is there for you." - L from Renfrew
"The apartment was exactly as described and was light and airy with excellent, close, access to the pool which was superb and got well used every day. There was good communication from the owner of the apartment, before we set off for Cyprus, with good arrival instructions including directions to the apartment and some tips on where to go to eat and drink as well. We found several small problems upon our arrival but one phone call to the owner and the really helpful agent came around and got everything sorted the same morning. Excellent client service with a smile. The aircon, which was included in the price, was needed, as it was very hot in July, and once again the agent explained the best, most efficient way to use it. So all in all our stay started off well and stayed that way for the rest of our holiday. I would rate this apartment as excellent with good quality, furniture and appliances. I cannot recommend this apartment, or the owner, highly enough, they both combined to make a family holiday great and that is exactly why we will be back again the next time we visit Cyprus." - Ken from Blackpool
"My family & I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Paphos at Diana Gardens. All our needs were met, the apartment is in a nice quiet spot, its clean and spacious. The owner is very approachable, dealing immediately with our one and only query. We did benefit from having a car, mainly due to wanting to visit places just outside of Paphos." - Lesley from Akrotiri, Cyprus
"The apartment was brilliant and had everything we needed. The pool and surrounds were clean and well maintained. I went with my two grandchildren who are 9yrs and 11yrs and the welcome we had from both other guests and residents was great. Because I dont drive, we walked into the town each day which was about a mile, taking a taxi back. The cost was usually about 8 to 10 Euros. As an unaccompanied female with two children I felt completely safe and can recommend the apartment to any single parent, especially if its their first holiday on their own. The owners e-mail with loads of local info was really helpfull, as was the file which we found in the apartment. I shall definitely return here again." - Angela from Preston, Lancashire
"This was our second trip to Diana Gardens and once again we were not disappointed. This was our first trip in April and the complex was very quiet and on several occasions we were the only ones using the pool. We love it here so much we have already boooked again for July! It is an ideal base to explore Cyprus and a car is recommended" - Tracey from Orpington, Kent
"We spent a month here-mid Nov to mid Dec. The apartment was very well equipped and furnished, the beds were of good quality and very comfortable. The agents were very helpful as was the owner with a slight hic-up at the start of our stay. The first 2 weeks we were without a car and enjoyed the 25 min stroll to the harbour or the Old Town. The local bar Panos was about 10 Mins away and has a friendly atmosphere. When we hired a car (shop around!) the apartment was ideally situated for the motorway (5 Mins). Food shopping is within easy reach on foot or by car. Great apartment in a quiet position." - Tracey from Stalybridge
"The directions given from the airport to the apartment were spot on, and easy to follow. The location suited our needs as it was nice and quiet and very relaxing. The accommodation was exactly as described and we would consider staying there again. Although you can walk to the nearby restaurants I would recommend driving or getting a taxi if you're not young and fit. Overall a very enjoyable stay and I would recommend it to a friend/family." - Mark from London
"Excellent property. Good location, ideal base for getting about. Close enough to town centre, if walking, but far enough away for a relaxing time. Pool is excellent, well maintained, and in clean condition. As for the apartment equipment, everything worked as expected, and all in good condition. Satellite (UK Free Channels only) TV and DVD player worked well. Overall, an excellent apartment, and good value for money. I would certainly recommend this apartment for future holidays (and long stays)." - David from Haverhill, Suffolk
"Very spacious and comfortable and well appointed. Generously equipped. Poolside equipment very good and pool good. Quiet area and easy to relax. Not told we would need a car, which is necessary if you stay there, no local bus service although convenient to travel around Cyprus from this location by car." - Gordon from Chester
"The property was exactly as described and catered for our every need as a family. The air con at night was a big bonus as it was so hot, the pool was very good for the children and the apartment located in a good place as Elizabeth has MS and didn't have any stairs to climb. The owner was very helpful, right from my first enquiry down to booking a car. Thanks for a fantastic holiday" - Trevor from Rotherham
"The accommodation was excellent for our family with air conditioning included in the price, a real bonus as this was essential in August. Overall a brilliant holiday! " - Peter from Orpington, Kent
"Our apartment was very well designed and offered more than sufficient space. The complex itself was built to a high specification and kept in very good order, the flagship is the beautiful pool. Having such a base allowed us the freedom to either relax by the pool, travel the short distance into town whilst still being a short drive to the impressive championship golf course of Aphrodite Hills" - Kieran from Westerham, Kent
"Apartment was well fitted out with everything you need, the air conditioning was very useful as it gets very warm. If you are not too active it would be wise to hire a car to visit the many attractions around the area. I would recomend the apartment to anyone, the owner is very helpful in every respect" - Derek from London
"We have arrived back safely after a lovely holiday. Very pleased with apartment and pool, very nice community and friendly people. Thank you for the use of the apartment, we would recommend to friends and family." - Michelle from Northampton
" What a discovery, the apartment was fantastic it was like going from home to home, it is just how the pictures show and more. We were worried about taking 2 small children into such a new apartment but it was very child friendly. I have recommended this apartment to at least 3 people so far and I will not be hesitating to return again and again" - Terri from London
"The apartment is in a beautiful complex with an excellent pool. It was very relaxing and quiet. The apartment is extremely well located, as the patio is a mere 10 metres from poolside. We really enjoyed our stay." - David from Dublin, Ireland
"This apartment is on a lovely complex. It was quiet, clean and well maintained. The apartment is excellently located, the large patio only a few yards from the poolside. It was larger than we expected and the fixtures and fittings are of a very good quality." - Janet from Preston, Lancashire
