The Paphos District
Paphos has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. It is known as the birthplace of the legendary Greek goddess of love and beauty Aphrodite, and it is where her temple was erected by the Myceneans in the 12th century B.C. Between Paphos and Limassol is Petra tou Romiou or "Aphrodite's Rock", the very spot where the legendary goddess of love is said to have emerged from the foaming waves.
Near the harbour will find the House of Dionysos and admire the most impressive mosaics depicting familiar scenes from mythology. The remains of villas, palaces, theatres, fortresses and tombs mean that the whole area is of exceptional architectural and historic value. The mosaics of Nea Paphos are among the most beautiful in the world. St. Paul’s Pillar is located on the site of Ayia Kyriaki, and is where modern Anglican and Catholic weddings take place. Indeed Paphos in its entirety is like one big museum, with rich history around every corner. The town of Paphos is included in the official UNESCO list of cultural and natural treasures of the world's heritage.
A visit to the Tombs of the Kings is a must while in Paphos. The site is situated just on the edge of the town, on the road to Coral Bay. Buses will take you there, but there is a large car park if you are driving. The tombs are situated on a cliff above the sea, with stunning views, and the site covers about a square mile. No Kings were entombed here, but the grandeur and scale of the tombs earned them their title. It was actually a large burial site for nobles and dignitaries. Any evidence of burials and burial goods have long gone, but what you will see is an elaborate necropolis cut out of the living rock. Columns around submerged courtyards, with visible nooks for bodies and offerings to the dead are evident, which are reminiscent of sites in Egypt. It is a truly fascinating place.
Paphos Castle has a colourful history as a fort and prison under many administrators. It is located on the edge of Paphos harbour, and was originally built as a Byzantine fort to protect the harbour. It was then rebuilt by the Lusignans in the thirteenth century after being destroyed in the earthquake of 1222. In 1570 it was dismantled by the Venetians. After capturing the island in 1586, the Ottomans restored and strengthened it, and it was last actively used by the British. More recently the castle serves as a backdrop to the annual open air Paphos cultural festival which takes place in September. It was declared a listed building in 1935 and represents one of the most distinctive landmarks of the city of Paphos. Open daily to 6 PM (in summer).
The Akamas Peninsula, a wild area of outstanding natural beauty, is located very close to Paphos. A day may not be enough to explore the deep gorges the wild landscape and the sandy bays. This is an area of great biodiversity and ecological significance. Home to 530 plant species, it remains largely unspoilt to date mainly thanks to its inaccessibility. A jeep safari excursion to the region is truly a breathtaking experience.

Guestbook
"Very spacious and comfortable and well appointed. Generously equipped. Poolside equipment very good and pool good. Quiet area and easy to relax. Not told we would need a car, which is necessary if you stay there, no local bus service although convenient to travel around Cyprus from this location by car." - Gordon from Chester
"The property was exactly as described and catered for our every need as a family. The air con at night was a big bonus as it was so hot, the pool was very good for the children and the apartment located in a good place as Elizabeth has MS and didn't have any stairs to climb. The walk to town was accurately described by the owner as 20 to 25 mins but too much for Elizabeth with her MS, but when we got the hire car everything was fine. We had the hustle and bustle of the town and the peace and tranquility of the complex at night, just how I like it. Met lots of very nice people at the complex, especialy Stef and his family who was very helpful, some who own property there and some who rented like myself. The owner was very helpful, right from my first enquiry down to booking a car. Thanks for a fantastic holiday" - Trevor from Rotherham
"The accommodation was excellent for our family with air conditioning included in the price, a real bonus as this was essential in August. Overall a brilliant holiday! " - Peter from Orpington, Kent
"My family and I have always thoroughly enjoyed visiting Paphos and now feel very fortunate to have found an excellent base in Diana Gardens. Our apartment was very well designed and offered more than sufficient space for the discerning travelling group. The complex itself was built to a high specification and kept in very good order. The flagship of Diana Gardens is the beautiful pool with its ornate bridge spanning its width. I can categorically state that having such a base allowed us the freedom to either relax by the pool, travel the short distance into town for its culinery or shopping delights whilst still being a short drive to the impressive championship golf course of Aphrodite Hills" - Kieran from Westerham, Kent
"Myself my wife, daughter and her husband stayed in june 2007, plenty of space for us, the apartment was well fitted out with everything you need, the air conditioning was very useful as it gets very warm in Cyprus at this time of year. Paphos is a very pleasant place to spend a holiday with plenty to do, if you are not too active it would be wise to hire a car to visit the many attractions around the area. I would recomend the apartment to anyone, the owner is very helpful in every respect" - Derek from London
"We have arrived back safely after a lovely holiday. Very pleased with apartment and pool, very nice community and friendly people. Thank you for the use of the apartment, we would recommend to friends and family." - Michelle from Northampton
"My daughter and her family live in Cyprus in Larnaca and we have visited 5 times this year. As it was her birthday in July we wanted to take her away somewhere nice but she didnt want to leave Cyprus, and I discovered Diana Gardens and what a discovery, the apartment was fantastic it was like going from home to home, it is just how the pictures show and more. We were worried about taking 2 small children into such a new apartment but it was very child friendly as were also the people on the complex mostly the owners and they made us very welcome and advised us where to visit, eat and shop. The pool and complex was cleaned daily what I mostly like was booking through an agent but then the owner taking over the final arrangements. I have recommended this apartment to at least 3 people so far and I will not be hesitating to return again and again" - Terri from London
"The apartment is in a beautiful complex with an excellent pool. It was very relaxing and quiet. The apartment is extremely well located, as the patio is a mere 10 metres from poolside. The air-conditioning and facilities within the apartment were great. Paphos town has a wide variety of night life and excellent restaurants. The apartment is a 20 min walk from the sea front or a few minutes by car. We really enjoyed our stay." - David from Dublin, Ireland
"This apartment is on a lovely complex. It was quiet, clean and well maintained. The apartment is excellently located, the large patio only a few yards from the poolside. It was larger than we expected and the fixtures and fittings are of a very good quality." - Janet from Preston, Lancashire
