BookThe Paphos region
The charming west coast town of Paphos (or Pafos) is one of the most beautiful and ancient towns of Cyprus. Positively teeming with history which dates back thousands of years, today Paphos is a small harbour town, but in Hellenistic and Roman times it was the capital of Cyprus.
Paphos is entwined with greek mythology and the legendary birth of the mythical Goddess Aphrodite on her shores brought fame and worshippers there to follow the cult of the Goddess.
Landmarks associated with Aphrodite are the chunky, rugged rocks of her beautiful birthshore known as the Aphrodite Rocks or "Petra tou Romiou", the evocative sanctuary of Aphrodite at Kouklia Village, one-time shrine and scene of pagan festivals for thousands, the Baths of Aphrodite at Polis, supposed source of fertility and the Fountain of Love, or Fontana Amorosa, a few miles further into the Akamas Peninsula.
Even the town's name is linked to the Goddess, as Paphos was the name of the mythological daughter of Venus and Pygmalion.
Paphos became the capital of Cyprus under the successors of Alexander the Great - the Ptolemies and in those days its harbour was a busy, thriving port. It continued as the island's first city for more than seven centuries, retaining its importance under Roman rule. Its most famous Governor Sergius Paulus, was converted to Christianity by St Paul in 45 AD.
Paphos welcomes its visitors with its majestic landscape, lovely coastline, historic treasures and delightful villages where tradition is still a way of life. It focuses around an attractive little harbour known as Kato Paphos whose picturesque open-air fish tavernas and souvenir shops line a quayside of bright fishing boats and pleasure craft.
This lovely resort boasts an average of 340 days of sunshine a year and almost zero rainfall from April to November making it an ideal all year round destination. English is widely spoken and the locals are friendly and welcoming. Driving is on the left and electricity is 240V using 3-pin plugs.
The recent addition of its own international airport nearby has opened up the Paphos area, and the resort is graced with some luxury hotels along the coastline.
There are many trips and activities available. A daily jeep safari is available to the Akamas National Park to see 'Turtle Beach' where the protected Greenback turtles lay their eggs. The Akamas Gorges, Adonis Falls and the sea caves are all also great trips.
Why not leave the beach for the day and enjoy the tranquillity of the mountain air in the beautiful Troodos Mountains! Full details of all the Islands activities will be provided in our apartment information pack.
For the golf enthusiasts there are three golf courses within easy reach of Paphos:
Aphrodite Hills (PGA standard) 18km (www.aphroditehills.com)
Minthis Hills 15km (www.cyprusgolf.com)
Secret Valley 18km (www.cyprusgolf.com)

I couldn't fault the apartment either position or location. Local to all amenities. Lots of restaurants, short walk to bus stop. Ideally situated. Apartment was like being at home as it had everything you could possible want and more. Would recommend this to anyone. It may be busy during school holiday's but well worth the money. Ideally for senior citizen and children alike. The lift was a blessing. |

We have stayed at the appartment 2yrs running, we find it fully equiped and clean. There is just a short walk to tomb of the kings road way you can find various pubs and places to eat, they even have fast food places like kfc and pizza hut and macdonalds. they is a short walk to the beach way you can hire sun loungers and a cafe bar. would reccomend the appartment to friends and intend to go back for future holidays. |

Excellent taxi transfers to the Seacrest. Very spacious and clean property, well situated away from noise but within easy reach of restaurants, supermarkets etc. Tastefully appointed pool area, although a struggle to get a sunbed unless we got up very early as other holiday makers tended to ' reserve ' them. Lovely clean pools to swim in. Robert, who owns the apartment, is very efficient and helpful too. Great location, but not too far away from holiday entertainment. Would have preferred the nearby beaches to be sandier, but Coral Bay is not too far by bus. |
