The Peloponnese region

Peloponnese (the south edge of mainland Greece) is the geographical department that displays a large number of historical sights, a rich partition of coasts, a hinterland with beautiful nature, villages with a remarkable arcitecture, developed cities and a high touristic infrastructure.
It boasts the largest and most spectacular concentration of ancient sites, including Mycenae, Epidavros, ancient Messini and Olympia, where the Olympic games were founded. Less known but equally fascinating are the many Byzantine (medieval) cities, churches and fortresses, including the hilltown of Mystras and the sea-rock of Monemvasia. The rugged Mani peninsula, central of the three ‘fingers’, positively bristles with towers and frescoed chapels. Or, if you fancy something more civilised, check out the elegant seaside town of Nafplion, with its narrow alleys, tiled houses, castles and festivals.
Those who prefer natural wonders to man-made will not be disappointed. The southerly mountain range of Taygetos offers breathtaking gorges, spring flowers and well-maintained mulepaths to link them. Some of Greece’s finest beaches can be found on the westren finger around Pilos, or along the endless pine-shaded strand that forms the west coast.
If someone is looking to visit just one part of Greece with a bit of everything, Peloponnese is certainly the place.
The Kalamata / Verga Beach area
Day trips can easily be arranged to many historical sites - Olympia, Mystras & Monemvasia to name but three. In Kardamili , 25 km (mentioned in Homer's The Iliad) there are numerous tavernas and good tourist shops as well as the site of Ancient Kardimili with a fascinating little museum.
This a popoular area with walkers on waymarked paths all over the Taygetos mountains.
You can also explore (by boat) the famous Diros caves, about 90 minutes driving.
Kalamata (7 km) is a lively, typical mediterranean city. The old town in the north is picturesque, full of cafes, farmer's restaurants and shops selling local products. The centre of the city has prestigious cafes and all kinds of modern shops. The sea front is 2.5 km long pebble beach full of cafes, bars, pizzerias, and night clubs. Walking on the sea front is a pleasure during the evenings. The town has many major super markets with all kind of products.

The house is situated in a huge garden with olive, pine and fig trees, where you can take a rest away from the high temprature. We enjoyed our morning coffees under the shade tree and on the balconies, which had a great view of the sunset. The house itself was beautiful, tastefully decorated, and had all the amenities we needed, while everything was clean and well maintained. It's a good location for travelling to lots of historical places like Sparta or Olympia, as well as for visiting marvelous beaches, mountains and other interesting places. The owners were very kind & hospitable, and welcomed us with great enthusiasm. We spent one of our best holidays there, and we hope to return again!! |
Guestbook for Villa Lena
We spent 2 weeks in this wonderful house. It has a wonderful garden, a phantastic view on the sea and is very close to a calm and private beach. The house has a very charming interieur, it is very clean and in a super condition. Thanks to Panos and Lena, who are wonderful hosts and showed us the house in every detail, we could benefit from all the comfortable amenities of the house. We highly recommend it to families and people, who love the benefits of a calm and charming place. It is also ideal for sightseeing on the Peleponnes.

My family spent a week at the villa in early July.
Even with a hot sun and a cloudless sky, the grounds of the villa were comfortable because of the well-placed shade trees. The house was shaded from both the AM and PM sun and the terrace table shaded by a wonderful pine tree where we enjoyed every meal we had at home.
This is a cosy, comfortable place where relaxing comes naturally.
The property is on the main beach road but very private due to the privacy wall and high trees.

My friend and I were very pleased with the accommodation and cleanliness of the place.
Our owners had some basic necessities for us in the fridge upon arrival which we thought was a very nice touch and the market just across the street had all the rest we needed to enjoy our stay.
The villa is decorated tastefully and is very comfortable.
We do not hesitate to highly recommend this rental. Lena and Panos were very welcoming and available to help us had we needed it.
We had a fantastic stay and the last sunset left us wanting more but we unfortunately had to leave…

Thanks for our week-long stay in your beautiful villa near Kalamata.
We loved the house, the sea views were fabulous (watching the dolphins feeding in Kalamata Bay one morning was a real treat), and the garden was a real oasis.
We'll remember our morning coffees, our kids collecting rocks from the nearby beach, and sipping wine as we watched the sunsets. Simply great!
Thanks as well for being a kind and generous host, and for welcoming us as friends - we hope to return again.

"Excellent place for holiday - quiet and charming"
The house is located on a clif beside the sea. There's a beautiful view from the house into the Calamata Gulf. The house is situated in a huge garden with bugenwilas, pinetree and fig trees, where you can take a rest from the heat and civilization, drink wine and eat greek salad. At the same time you have the possibility to visit bars and restautants which are a few minutes away by car. It's a good location for travelling to lots of historical places like Sparta or Olimpia, as well as beaches, mountains and other interesting places. The house is beautiful and tastefully decorated. The owners Panos and his wife Eleni are very warm, friendly and helpful. We spent one of our best holidays there. We hope to return there again.

The house with its magnificent view, nice garden and well designed interior was a pleasant surprise to us.
We enjoyed our stay very much!
For us, the culture as much as the breathtaking surrounding nature were more than we had expected to see.
The trip, for instance, to Mystras and Sparta in itself was worth the stay.
Definitely, we will return to Peloponnese once again and find our way into Kalamata, hopefully being able to return to this pleasant home as well.

Thank you so much for letting us stay in your wonderful house. We have enjoyed the stay so much.
Time to relax, time to swim and wonderful trips to Olynpia, Mystras, Mani and the caves in Diros.
And the nature.....! The olives, all the trees, the flowers...... so beautiful and so different from our country.
We hope to be back sometime.

Our stay was simply heaven .. our home away from home!
The villa and gardens are in excellent condition. It provided us a perfect setting to enjoy good food, lots of laughs, and great conversations around the "sunset" table ... and what lovely sunsets!
We also enjoyed taking in the sights of the surrounding area including Kalamata, Stoupa and Diro Caves (which is a must see, however plan on a full day tour).
We certainly look foward to returning to your lovely villa on our next visit to Greece!
