The Dalmatia region

The World Organisation for the Environment Protection, declared the island of Vis as one of the ten most environmentally preserved islands on the Mediterranean and one of the long living historical but also mysterious places on the Adriatic . . .

"The remote Croatian island of VIS is . . . as beautiful as Capri before the tourists. Despite its picture postcard Mediterranean beauty, its olive groves and vines, its ancient ruins and deserted beaches, it has virtually no tourists. It seems the only foreigners who have discovered it are those who arrive on the glamorous Italian and Austrian yachts that moor here in the evening."
. . . Conde Nast Traveler

“Vis is poised to become the next "it spot" for sun and fun on the Adriatic . . . you'll be rewarded with deserted beaches, fascinating culture, exotic cuisine, and the satisfaction of "discovering" a fabulous, off-the-beaten-path island destination.”
. . . ShermansTravel

Over 5000 years of history and hidden from the world for centuries, time has slowed on VIS. The Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Slavs, Venetians, Austrians, French and British have all left their impression on VIS. Today the rich colours of the pristine waters, the virgin landscape and the traditional villages still speak of centuries gone by.

Island of Vis / Vis area

Perhaps best known as a boating destination, for the untouched natural beauty of its pristine coastline and for its nearly deserted sand beaches, a whole new world unfolds when exploring VIS. Known by the ancient Greeks as ISSA, the island has been off limits to foreigners for the last 50 years.

Breathtaking cliffs, private beaches and spectacular landscapes create a private world untouched and traditional – a throwback to days gone by.

Less than 2 hours from Split, VIS feels like a million kilometres away.

The Summer Festival on VIS – from July to the first weeks of September - is something really special – local talent brings jazz and classical music, local theatre and traditional culture to the warm summer evenings. The local festival is emerging as an essential experience for visitors and locals alike.

The annual VIS regatta in October attracts hundreds of yachts and visitors from around the world.

The discerning guest will find the finest Dalmatian hospitality authentic cuisine, local organic food , superb wine , domestic olive oils and island spirits , in the sequestered restaurants and Konobas of VIS. Famous throughout Croatia each has its own character and specialty.

How to get there

Fly into Split Airport via BA, Ryanair, Easy jet, Adria Airways, Wizzair, Flybe, Scandjet, Aua, or Croatia Airlines.

You can rent a car at the airport or take a taxi from the airport to Split ferry port (approximately 30 min. drive). There are 2 ferries and one Catamaran each day from Split to VIS town throughout the year.

Villa Tempera is located about 9 km from the VIS ferry port.

Guestbook for Villa Tempera

Everything has been wonderful, not only the house (perfect location, perfect house) but our hosts, and all the help they provided through cleaning and contact services on the island. Everyone was so good. They made us feel at home from the very first moment, so we were able to relax and enjoy from minute one of our arrival. We are only sorry that eventually we had to leave. . . Brian, Patricia and Cole, American
