BookThe Brittany / Ille-et-Vilaine region
Ille-et-Vilaine is the region in the East of Brittany bordering with Normandy. The beautiful emerald coast stretches from the bay of Mont St Michel to St Briac sur Mer linking the ports of Cancale, St Malo and Dinard.
The old walled town of St Malo is one of the France's great attractions, its rampart walls hide a charming town known for good restaurants and pavement cafés. There is quite a lot to see in St. Malo alone and you can walk along the magnificent ramparts and walk on the stunning sandy beach when the tide is out.
The regional capital, Rennes has an elegant old quarter with a huge Saturday market, enjoy superb oysters from Cancale and the excellent golf in Dinard. The property is ideally located for visiting the beaches of Normandy and Brittany,There are many stunning coastal villages including St. Suliac which is listed as one of the prettiest villages of Ille et Vilaine. Cancale the oyster capital of Europe is also only a 40 mins drive away. The famous medieval walled town of St. Malo overlooking a large harbour and beautiful sandy beach is only an hours drive. Mont St Michel is a magnificent spectacle only 20 mins drive away.
The Fougeres / Tremblay area
Fougeres is twenty five minutes away and is the site of the largest medieval castle in Europe. It has an 11th century quarter where you can see kiwi and banana plants growing in a micro-climate between timber-framed buildings as well as having a relaxing meal or drink outside the castle walls. On the hilltop above, the 15th century part of the town overlooks the beautiful public gardens. There is a market in the shopping streets on Saturday and restaurants, cafes and bars are accessible in cobbled streets and squares. Just to the north of Fougeres there is an inland lake and man-made sandy beach in a forest for swimming and relaxing. The cottage is also situated approximately 1 mile from the pretty village of Tremblay with its boulangerie, cafes and restaurants and within easy reach of the many picturesque attractions of Brittany. This location offers something for everyone: magnificent beaches for sun-worshippers, spectacular countryside for nature lovers It also offers some of the world's greatest wines, haute cuisine for gourmets, an abundance of culture for art lovers and tranquillity for the stressed. A local forest, Ville Cartier has an impressive leisure area with a lake, horses and organised tree climbing and zip wiring for adults and children. Lake Boulot is fifteen minutes away and has boating activities and a shoreside cafe. Pretty villages and towns abound, sporting beautiful streetside floral displays.

The perfect gite for a small family with a lovely log fire for those cold evenings. Judi & Graham are extremely welcoming and helpful, any problems encountered with the gite were dealt with immediately. Our son especially enjoyed picking the fruit from their trees and spotting all the local tractors. We found plenty to see and do in the area, including La Bourbansais (chateau & zoo) which is great for kids of all ages. There is an aquarium in St Malo. Cancale is a nice place to go for a meal. Of course the main attraction is Mont St Michel and even with a two year old in tow, it was a great day out. |

Our holiday in Ardilloux was a memorable experience. From the moment we arrived, we felt at home and relaxed. The surrounding countryside and picturesque hamlet of Ardilloux are wonderful. We were met by the owners, Judi and Graham, who couldn't have been more helpful. A welcome basket of local produce was fantastic. La Lune is a very comfortable accommodation, supplied with all essentials for a happy and relaxing stay in rural France. It was very clean and well maintained and provided ample space for four people. We explored many places of interest and were supplied with helpful information from Judi and Graham, which made our visits even more special. We also thoroughly enjoyed the produce from local markets and restaurants. We very much look forward to another visit and are confident that a holiday, in whatever season, will be equally as comfortable and exciting. |
