The Grand Massif region
Flaine lies in the northern part of the French Alps, in the Haute-Savoie region, between Geneva and Chamonix Mont Blanc. It is close to major airports (Geneva, Annecy, Lyon), train stations (Cluses, Annecy, Annemasse) and the A 40 motorway (Cluses).
Flaine is the highest resort in the Grand Massif ski area and designed around the bowl it sits in. This bowl allows for a huge amount of accessible off piste, some challenging runs, a range of intermediate runs and a lovely beginner area. It is surrounded to the North by Les Portes du Soleil, to the East by the Aravis, and to the south by the Mont Blanc region with all of these ski resorts an easy 1 hr day trip away.
The Grand Massif ski area includes Samoens, Les Carroz, Morillon and Sixt as well as Flaine and has over 265km of piste.
Flaine's proximity to Mont Blanc results in an excellent snow record, and it is one of the most snow sure resorts in Europe.. Flaine is particularly family friendly with excellent multi-lingual ski-schools, and safe skiing for young children. There are more challenging runs and plenty of accessible off piste for intermediate and advanced level skiers and snowboarders.
The resort of Flaine is a French national heritage site due to its design .It is either loved or hated by the people who visit . The same cannot be said for the ski area which arguably is one of the best in Europe if not the whole world. The Grand Massif Ski area is also one of the largest truly linked ski areas in France.
The Grand Massif
265 km of slopes 133 pistes and 5 interlinked resorts (Morillon, Samoens, Les Carroz, Sixt Fer à Cheval and Flaine).
Thanks to its geographical location adjacent to Mont Blanc, the Grand Massif enjoys abundant, regular snowfalls throughout the season, and is well known for the snow quality. 80% of the slopes are north-facing, ALLOWING for the snow to lay and remain in good condition. The Grand Massif features some exceptional spots:- The Combe de Gers with its dizzying 800 m drop and untouched snow! - The blue Cascades trail running for 14 km from the summit at Flaine to Sixt Fer à Cheval - The Marvel track that provides beginners with a 5 km run through the heart of a forest over a century old. The Grand Massif features extensive readily accessible off piste, A SKI CLUB OF GREAT BRITAIN FRESHTRACKS LOCATION. There are three Jamparks for the fun of beginners or experienced freestylers alike.
