Within 15 minutes of the major sites of the region, Gaurenne is nonetheless a totally peaceful place to return to after visiting the region. In its bucolic setting, this is a three hundred year old farm on 22 idyllic acres of meadows, orchards, gardens and woods. The house is one of three buildings arranged around a courtyard in the traditional manner of French farms and is a fine example of rural Périgordine architecture. The buildings are constructed of the golden limestone which is typical of the region and have steeply pitched "lauze" roofs made of stone slabs, giving the farm a fairy tale quality. Behind the house is a private saltwater pool that looks out on the meadow. There is a covered terrace for outdoor dining and additional seating under the linden tree and in the orchard. Climbing roses, jasmine and lavender fill the courtyard with fragrance, and the herb garden by the door is intended for your use.
The house has been restored in a way that respects its original rustic character while adding modern conveniences for comfort. The interior has many walls of exposed stone, beamed ceilings throughout, and floors of the honey colored local stone (downstairs) and of local chestnut (upstairs). Furnishings include antiques and French fabrics.
Upstairs there are two generous sized bedrooms, a full bathroom with tub and rainshower and a separate wc and downstairs an additional half bath. The kitchen has table looking out on the meadow and is equipped with all you need for preparing meals including a dishwasher and an espresso maker. There is a long farm table in the dining area and comfortable seating in the living room.
You will find a book in the kitchen which we keep updated with suggested sites to visit, practical information, and a listing of local farmers' markets.
Gaurenne is the perfect place to relax and restore oneself from the usual hustle of daily life!
