The Dalmatia region
The Split Riviera (Splitsko-Dalmatinska), incorporates the city of Split, the seaside resort of Trogir, Podstrana, Omiš, and Solin, the old Roman town of Salona. This region is steeped in history & is one of the most fascinating in Croatia archaeologically.
Split is one of the jewels of the Adriatic and is the cultural and economic hub of Central Dalmatia. A city that grew out of the Palace of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, built around 300 AD, where nearly 3000 inhabitants have been installed for 1700 years, now a place where ancient times live along side the rhythm of the twentieth century.
Theatre festivals & open-air extravaganzas are the summertime trade marks of Split and the surrounding tourist regions. Split becomes the place on which world renowned operas, ballets, and dramas are presented. The scenic atmosphere created by the natural stages of the promenades, Roman facades and mediaeval palaces is unsurpassable.
Omis is a small town which lies at the mouth of the beautiful emerald-green Cetina River. Steep rock faces tower above the town either side of a deep ravine gauged out by the river - it makes for a very dramatic setting. It was actually a pirate state during the latter phase of the Ottoman occupation and although that is now all in the past, it still has a very strong boating tradition. Some beautiful boats are built here which you can see lined up along the quys.
The Cetina River is a great source of attraction for many visitors, not least for its beauty and its wildlife. It is also a superb trout river and provides some of the best kayaking and white water rafting you'll get anywhere. At the mouth of the river, in the town of Omis, there are numerous boat hire centres and you can also take a boat trip up the river and take lunch at a riverside restaurant further upstream.
Our apartments are located in a beautiful and quiet place Suhi potok between Split and Omiš.
From Split, we are located 15 km and 9 km from Omiš.
The Main Train and Bus Station, as well as Split Ferry Port with daily connections with islands, is 22 km away, while Split Airport is at a distance of 40 km.
It is an ideal choice for a family holiday with children, surfers and water-skiers an sports-packed action holiday. The River Cetina is close by, with its impressive canyon, one of the best places in Croatia for kayaking, rafting, rock climbing and fishing.
The peace and quiet, shady, scented pines and crystal sea offer breathing-space from the bustle of urban life, yet the towns of Dalmatia are within easy reach for those who enjoy cultural events and entertainment.
There are many theatre productions and concerts, including the Split Summer in Split , and the Dalmatian Klapa Festival in Omis. There are also clubs and discos with music and dancing through to the small hours.
The Croatian coastline is mainly mountainous and boasts some of the highest peaks in the Mediterranean. It is from these heights that you can appreciate just how crystal clear the turquoise blue waters of the Adriatic really are. Because of its central position, JESENICE is ideal for excursions to surrounding towns ( Omis, Split, Trogir, Zadar, Dubrovnik) and the islands ( Brac, Hvar, Vis, Korcula) and Plitvice, one of the parks, has 92 magnificent waterfalls and like all the parks is overflowing with fauna and flora, forests, gorges, rivers and deep blue lakes.
