Villa | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
This beautifully renovated rustic villa is only 10 minutes' drive from the heart of Siena. Built in the 1500's, Belvedere (beautiful view) is situated on a remote hilltop with breathtaking views of the Tuscan countryside with vineyards and olive trees in the immediate vicinity. It's near enough for ready access to Siena yet remote enough for your private piece of Tuscan tranquility. The villa has been split into two different areas. The upper floor (accessible by a short stair case) is where you will be staying as this has the best views. Our Caretaker lives in an apartment below with completely separate entrance and not connected at all. She is very unobtrusive so you can rest assured that your privacy will be respected ... She can, upon request, prepare a Welcome Dinner that has been a major hit with a lot of guests!
Belvedere is also a fantastic location to base yourself for day trips to Florence and many other towns dotted around Tuscany such as San Gimignano, Montalcino, Pienza and Montepulciano. A trip to the abbey Monte Oliveto Maggiore for evening vespers followed by dinner in the quaint walled village of Buonconvento is highly recommended. Further afield are classic medieval towns such as Cortona, Perugia and Assisi and to the west, the Isle of Elba is a day or overnight trip.
Alternatively you can escape for days on end with only a few minutes' drive or a 15 minute walk to the local shops for a coffee, an ATM or to top up the essentials – some local bread & milk, a bottle of Chianti, some fresh pasta or an array of regional cheeses. There are plenty of supermarkets only a short drive away if you are really stocking up or if you don't feel like cooking there are many options for dining in the surrounding Colonna San Marco, San Rocco, Costalpino or in Downtown Siena.
Closer to home, points of interest are Certano (the estate villa), where you can pick up a bottle of Chianti produced in the surrounding vineyard and the monastry – Eremo di Lecceto where you can attend evening vespers.
Belvedere features traditional Tuscan architecture , characterized by terracotta floors & exposed wooden beams common throughout the entire upper floor that you will occupy.
There are three spacious and tastefully decorated bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
A dining table that seats 12 will be the centre of some great feasts and memories or you can choose to eat around the more cosy kitchen table. The kitchen is fully equipped with pots and pans, glassware & ceramics, enabling you to cook up your own meals if you so desire.
Come and enjoy the 'Dolce far niente' - the sweetness of doing nothing by grabbing a book, cooking up a meal & playing some cards. Alternatively use this as a base for countless day trips to explore Tuscany & beyond.

The Tuscany region
From the Etruscans to the Romans to the Renaissance, Tuscany is possibly the greatest repository of art in the world, from extraordinary paintings and sculpture to frescoes and architectural masterpieces.
Visitors to Tuscany come for many reasons. Many come in search of fine art, others to explore the extraordinary countryside. Gourmets and wine buffs descend on Tuscany to enjoy the simple yet wonderful cuisine and wine. Walkers enjoy the mountain paths, cyclists the rolling hills, summer vacationers the sea coast and islands. Students come to learn the beautiful Italian language and culture.
There is a lot to see and do in Tuscany, the difficulty is really where to start. Certainly most should start with Florence, then continue on to Siena and Pisa. The roll call of città di arte, cities of art, is daunting: Arezzo, Cortona, San Gimignano and Lucca are all striking. The more you come to know the region, the more extraordinary Tuscany appears. Enjoy your visit!
Siena is one of the most beautiful and best preserved medieval cities in Europe with an absolutely stunning cathedral Il Duomo. The hospital of Santa Maria della Scala is said to be the oldest hospital in the world. The Piazza del Campo is a beautiful sight any day of the year but transforms to its medieval state for the famous Palio di Siena every 2nd of July & 16th August. Each contrada or section of the city battles it out for the famous bareback horserace around city centre.

"Belvedere e stupendo"
After a beautifully green, bus ride from Rome, I arrived at my designated stop a few kilometer's before Siena and waited for my transfer to Belvedere, a magical home at the end of a beautiful long winding driveway where views of 'Siena's Il Duomo and the vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see. Belvedere has it all, the entertainment area with a barbeque area perfect for entertaining, an outside pizza oven, for easy suppers, and a beautiful antique dinner table for 10, beside a great fire place in case a dinner party in the middle of Tuscany takes your fancy.
My personal favourite corner was the kitchen, with its cozy booth seat, where we all congregated each morning. The kitchen is so well equipped with all the conveniences you could wish for if cooking in numbers.
There are three guest bedrooms, with lovely furnishing each with private en-suite which was a surprise and not a common finish in most guest houses.
My second favourite spot was quite literally 'Under the Tuscan Sun' stretched on the sun chairs, with nothing more than the sound of a few bees.
The guest handbook is impressive, with wonderful insight on the destination, and how to feel right at home.
The owners have even taken the time to detail the best ways to conserve energy – Kudos
You can also purchase wine and curio from the owners estate.
I don't think I could have asked for a better introduction to Tuscany, its' beauty surpassed all expectation, and the comfort of feeling right at home will not be forgotten.
I can definitely recommend Belvedere, as the perfect getaway for a couple or a few couples / friends and hope someday I will return.
We were really enchanted by your description and compliments! A big thank you from the deep of our hearts for your generous and enthusiastic review.
It makes us really happy when people appreciate the beauties of Belvedere and deeply understand its character. We are also very appreciative of all the good comments about our Welcome Book as we put a lot of effort trying to collate all the information.
Thank you for coming and we do hope to have you again as our guest some time in the future.
