Home description
Moulin de la Ronde with its toes in the Vienne, occupies 4 acres including a meadow and large grassed island accessible through the mill, where you can fish, bird watch or just relax. Friends, visitors and locals describe it as stunning. La Ronde consists of the owners' cottage, the old watermill and two barns.
The "Old Grainstore" is the upper part of a barn which used to be linked by a footbridge to the mill. Now it is a very spacious, open plan apartment with parquet flooring, imposing original beams and imported furniture reflecting the owners time in Asia.
The local village of Bonnes is 5 mins walk away with a swimming pool, store, pharmacy, boulangerie, creperie, bar/restaurant and a chateau!

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Vienne region
The Vienne is a region of rivers, lakes and forests gently undulating and easy on the eye with its own micro climate, generally dry and sunny. There are many historic towns and villages with vibrant local markets.
The area is known for Pineau de Charente, Poitou wines, biscuits, torteau du fromage, goats cheeses, lamb and its wildlife..
It is bordered by the beaches of La Rochelle to the west and the Loire to the north, both areas less than 2 hours away.
Chauvigny / Bonnes, Chauvigny area
The local village of Bonnes is 5 mins walk away with a swimming pool, store, pharmacy, boulangerie, a creperie run by a young couple from Brittany and Cafe des Sports that serves a 5 course lunch with wine included for 13 Euros. Just outside the village is the beautiful Chateau Touffou which is open during the summer. There are well stocked fishing lakes at Bonnes and a licence can be obtained from the bars. It is a lovely area for walking, cycling and birdwatching.
10 mins away is Chauvigny with its busy markets, many shops, bars, restaurants, supermarkets and indoor pool. River canoeing trips can be booked, it's a unique way to view the river and its wildlife. Chauvigny's high medieval city, including five chateaux , offers spectacular displays of birds of prey, local museum and music during the summer months.
25 mins away is the historic city of Poitiers and the famous theme park-Futuroscope. Nearby is St Cyr with its lake, 'plan d'eau' and excellent golf course.
Saint Savin with its world heritage frescos, and Montmorillon -cite de l'ecrit- are 30 mins away. For more birdwatching, the Brenne National park is 40 mins away driving through the famous village Angles sur Anglin on the way.
The WW2 memorial village of Oradour sur Glane is just 90 mins away and well worth the drive. It is as it was on the day the Nazis entered the village and murdered the entire population.

"Our plans to explore went on hold as we decided to simply enjoy the peace and beauty of the 'Old Grainstore' and grounds. ...an excellent stay...many thanks for all the extra touches. Angela and Richard, UK 2009
"We will never forget the hospitality of Brian and Gill. In moments of stress I still myself and imagine La Vienne and the view from Le Moulin." Chris, Hong Kong 2008
"The only thing better from the window of the 'Old Grainstore' as the water in the river flows by, is the relaxing sound! For relaxation, to unwind from this busy world....the 'Old Grainstore' is perfect!!! Short trips to experience all that the local culture has to offer (fresh produce, nice wine, friendly country people) and returning to relax by the river....it was absolutely magnificent! Our extended family of five stayed in the 'Old Grainstore' in July 2007. The space was great - heaps of room for all of us! Brian and Jill were great hosts. They gave us space but also gave great advice on experiencing the delights the local area. we can't wait until we return." Steve and Linda, Brisbane, Australia 2007
