'La Maison de la Souris' is a beautiful, detached and private stone-built French farmhouse recently converted and equipped to a very high standard to provide exceptional holiday accommodation in the Haute Vienne, part of the Limousin region. The addition of a nine metre in-ground pool and hot tub help make this property the perfect location for your holiday in France.

The property, which stands in 2.8 hectares of land, has four large bedrooms (three doubles, one twin and including the signature bedroom... a vaulted 9m room with a walk in wet room with free standing bath), a spacious family bathroom, a double height lounge equipped with Digital tv, Sky+ HD box, DVD player, Xbox, free Wi-fi internet access and even an HP Printer for the day when you've forgotten to print your Ryanair boarding card. A wood burning stove will keep you warm and toasty when the evenings begin to cool and there is also a pool/air hockey table.

The brand new kitchen is 9m long with beautiful oak flooring, a three-oven Rangemaster duel fuel cooker, a large fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer and also has a comfortable seating area.

Outside, the property overlooks a beautiful new 9x4m pool, an accompanying hot tub, outdoor dining furniture and loungers and a large gas BBQ. There are even hi-fi speakers so you can provide your own soundtrack to your time by the pool. The summer weather in this part of France has more in common with the south of France and with temperatures regularly over 30 degrees a pool should be high on your list of 'must haves'.

Situated in a peaceful hamlet with views of rolling countryside, the property is 3km from the nearest village which is served by a restaurant, boulangerie and village store. Chalus is the closest town, being 5km to the west and providing a large supermarket, restaurants, butchers, bakers and other shops as well as two ATMs. Being in French lakeland, there are also several freshwater lakes in the area. Most have man-made sandy beaches and other leisure facilities and are very popular.

Whether your interest is in walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding... or you just like the idea of relaxing and doing as little as possible in a beautiful part of the world then 'The Mouse House' is the ideal venue to make your holiday special.

The Limousin/Auvergne region

The Haute Vienne is less famous than some of its more illustrious neighbours like the Dordogne (less than ten miles away) but only after visiting do you realise that it possesses the same natural beauty and wealth of resources.

It really is possible to feel closer to nature here... mile after mile of rolling hills, woodland and pasture, a plethora of birds and animals, and true peace and quiet.

The area's towns such as St Yrieix-la-Perche, Rochechouart, St Junien, Cussac, Chalus, Aixe-sur-Vienne and Oradour-sur-Vayres exude all that is typical and desirable of French towns... pretty places to sit and watch the world go by, to share a glass of wine or two, to enjoy a good meal and to meander around interesting boutique shops.

Chalus

Limoges is the area's largest city and is known primarily for its porcelain which you will find widely available. There is a relaxed atmosphere to Limoges and the city is well worth a visit. The restaurants and cafés which border the Market Square present a different atmosphere to the rural towns and villages and browsing through the old town's shops and boutiques is a pleasant way to pass a morning.

Chalus is our closest small town and is less than three miles away. It is famous for being the place where Richard I of England, the Lionheart, lost his life while laying siege to the town's castle. Whilst his heart was whisked off to Chartres Cathedral, Chalus holds his preserved entrails. Very nice. You will see references to Richard throughout the area as the route his forces took traverses the heart of the Limousin. In Chalus, you will find all the facilities and services you need to enhance your stay... there are two restaurants in addition to a large supermarket and traditional shops selling bread, meat and groceries. The Chalus boucher (butcher) sells the local speciality, Tortiere Limousin, the region's answer to the Cornish pasty.

Bussiere Galant is less than two miles from 'The Mouse House' and is the closest village. An excellent bar/restaurant serves lunch and dinner and their 'Menu du jour' which gives you three set courses for 12 euros is a great way to sample traditional French cuisine. Bussiere also has a boulangerie and small village store. Less than a mile from the village is L'espace Hermeline which is a lake with a sandy beach and a local centre for many outdoor recreational activities including a Tyrolean zip-wire which is not for the faint hearted.

La Rochelle... if you yearn for the smell of the sea then La Rochelle is definitely the place to head for. It is a two hour drive through the Cognac region and is a beautiful place to spend a day or overnight.

In Oradour-sur-Glane on 10th June 1944, 642 men, women and children were massacred by the Nazis. The village was destroyed and has been left as a monument to those killed. Whilst not the happiest place to visit, Oradour is extremely significant in the area's recent history, of considerable interest to any student of 20th century history and really does have to be seen to be believed.

"A fabulous rural retreat"

My family and I stayed at the Mouse House for a week and had a fabulous time. The house, the facilities and the location is superb and I can't fault any of it. It's a great place to stay if you love being away from it all and want a totally relaxing time in great surroundings.

Loved it!! (the kids loved the pool and the hot tub too!!)

"Charming, Rural"

Maison Souris is a recently renovated Farm building in a rural setting. The house and grounds are modern well looked after and furnished with quality furniture and fittings and good attention to detail. Supplied by Andrea's business in the UK. It was very comfortable and close to the town of Chalus where there were restaurants, shops and a supermarket.
The market in Thriviers was gorgeous. The children enjoyed riding along the river whilst we had a drink over looking the fairytale castle in St Julien le Grande, the go cart track nearby was second to none.
Andrea the owner was very prompt in her replies and incredibly accommodating. We organised our holiday from New Zealand she made this part of our journey easy. We had a very relaxed holiday after doing the sights of Paris and London. We could have done with another couple of days.
