Trulli delle Rondini
About the home
British owners have renovated and extended this traditional stone building in 2008 to create a 3 double bedroomed , 2 bathroomed holiday home. It is situated between Ceglie Messapica and San Michele Salentino in 10 hectares of fruit trees and olives and , with the undulations of the land, provides delightful rural views. It will sleep six comfortably in the 3 air-conditioned bedrooms [ greatly adds to comfort in the summer months] but could take a further couple in a fold away double bed in the living room. Unlike many Trullo complexes it boasts a spacious living area with arched stone ceilings which blends well with the fully exposed traditional stone work of the original trulli building . It has a well appointed, fully equipped modern kitchen and dining area.
Outside there is plentiful seating and areas for dining, sunbathing and, importantly in the summer, shading. The superb 13mx5m pool is surrounded by ample terracing and its close proximity to the building make supervising children easier. Alfresco dining is " a must " in the warmer months and is further enhanced as night falls as the property is enchantingly lit up.

The Puglia/Molise region

Puglia is an area of Italy like no other and is where many Italians holiday in the summer. Happily it remains relatively undiscovered by mass-tourism but has a plethora of interesting places to visit and wonderful restaurants. The consistently hot ,sunny, summer weather further enhances the miriad of sandy beaches with their crystal clear waters. Of particular note on the Adriatic coast [ 25 mins by car ] is the unspoilt beach of Torre Guaceto next to the nature reserve [- a parasole and cool box available at Trullo to take ] but there are also many beautiful beaches on the Ionian coast [ 40mins away ].
Consider day trips to the Baroque city of Lecce -"The Venice of the South",Castel De Monte-a fascinating octagonal castle dating from the 1240's,Matera-the Neolithic city that was the back drop to Mel Gibson's "The Passion of Christ" and Alberobello-the Trulli Village which is a World Heritage Site. The nearby town of Martina Franca is also well worth a visit as is the medieval hilltop town of Locorotondo on the Murge Plateau with its panoramic views of the surrounding Itria Valley.
The Ceglie Messapica area
Ostuni, 15 minutes away ,is a white-washed hill town, known as "La Ciatta Bianca" .This is a well known tourist destination with many restaurants, shops and bars. San Michele Salentino and Ceglie Messapica are even closer and have many amenities. Ceglie even boasts a Michelin starred restaurant. There is a "wine hotel" with a fine restaurant only five minutes drive away. Fresh sea food, wonderful ,local vegetables and excellent wines abound.
Daily markets take place in local towns.
Golf-San Domenico- 30 mins away
Grotte di Castellana- caves 35 mins away
Zoo Safari -25 minutes away

We enjoyed a fantastic, relaxing holiday staying in Trulli delle Rondini, a spectacular place.. our 3 children loved the pool and .spent most of their time in it!!, as well as exploring the gardens around. When they needed to take a break from the sun they were happy to come inside. A perfect environment to cool down, the interior was extremely comfortable and our son loved the playstation! a real treat for him and the girls colouring, collecting things from outside to take home!.. Lots to do and visit in the surrounding area, we ate delicious food and Ottavio was amazing very helpful..many thanks to Roger |

We have had a wonderfull 2 weeks stay in the trullo. Our children enjoyed the swimming pool and the surroundings of the house a lot and always wanted to stay at home! As we travelled with a friend we loved the big kitchen-eating-living area in between the two sleeping areas. So the house is very spacious, specially for two partys. A big surprise for me was the large "garden" around the house because I could pick fresh figs and almonds every day! A part of that we visited a lot of nice villages, gardens, beaches and restaurants and enjoied the whole variety Apulia can offer...we had an excellent stay and would love to go again! |

Very simple to book - a couple of emails and we were sorted. Stunning property with fantastic outdoor space. Large pool with plenty of sun loungers and good pergola for shade. House simply furnished. We arrived very late at night and met Ottavio (the property manager just outside Ostuni) a few miles from the property, which would have been difficult to find without him. Masses to do and see reasonably locally, if you can tear yourselves away from that pool! |
Guestbook for Trulli delle Rondini
" Your house in Puglia is really very special. You have converted it so sensitively and finished it beautifully. We think it is one of the best in the area. " -C Callender- Sept 2008
" Just wanted to say thanks for a great holiday - the trullo was magnificent and we found the last few apricots on the tree – figs will be nice soon and when the aromatic plants grow around the outside seating area it will be even nicer than it was! V comfy beds, pool was wonderful and all the better for being cold, inspired choice of DVDs for late night viewing (godfather & ealing comedies), well equipped kitchen etc – all lovely and we had some much needed r&r."- S Stubbings June 2009
" Just to let you know that we had a wonderful stay at Trullo Rondini. It is an amazing place. We arrived on Saturday afternoon and and were blown away by the place as we turned into the drive. This was however surpassed by our friends arrival that night when the place was lit up. It looked so magical I think they nearly cried! Needless to say I have earned lots of 'brownie points' for booking it!
We enjoyed relaxing around the pool, eating delicious fresh food and drinking lots of good local wine. Ottavio was very helpful and we had no problems with the accommodation - everything we needed was there to make our stay perfect. You have restored the trullo beautifully and we would be happy to recommend it to others.
Thanks again for everything" - J Poulter August 2009
" We have had two absolutely amazing weeks in Puglia !! I guess one of the best holidays we have spent in Europe. We are ready to sell our summer house in Denmark and buy something here instead. We're so happy we found this beautiful trulli to stay in. It's been a pefect place to relax, read, swim eat...sleep
Thanks Roger and Ottavio! " - C Andersen June/July 2010
