About this location
The County Antrim region
The town of Coleraine, ten miles away, gives an opportunity for retail therapy. It also has a swimming pool and an entertainment complex with a multi screen cinema and bowling. A few miles outside Coleraine, Downhill Demesne and the spectacular Mussenden Temple, both owned by the National Trust, cannot be too highly recommended.
Further afield you can explore the Glens of Antrim, take a train ride through breath-taking scenery to the historic 2013 City of Culture, Derry/Londonderry, or travel along the Causeway Coastal route to Belfast where you can, among other attractions, visit the world famous Titanic Exhibition.
Bush Lodge is conveniently located on the edge of the conservation village of Bushmills, a 5 minute walk from the famous Bushmills Distillery, Ireland's oldest whiskey distillery (established in 1608). Tours are organised daily and you can also enjoy coffee or lunch in the restaurant. The River Bush flows through the village, walk over the Millennium Bridge to get the best view. Or join a Bushmills Heritage Trail (new for 2014) to find out more about the local history .
A wide range of quality eating establishments and coffee shops can be found within the villages of Bushmills and Portballintrae, along with cosy pubs where you can sample some traditional Irish music and craic. Grocery shopping is well catered in Bushmills where you will also find a chemist, two butchers, a delicatessen, an ATM and a post office.
Situated within a designated 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' Bush Lodge makes an ideal base for touring the many delights of the Causeway Coast. The Giant's Causeway with its new Visitors Centre, N. Ireland's most famous tourist attraction, is only two miles away,as is the pretty seaside village of Portballintrae. You can walk between the two or hop on the Causeway tram for a picturesque ride. The beach and sand hills at the White Rocks (a glorious walk from here into Portrush) White Park Bay, Carrick-a-rede rope bridge, Dunluce Castle, all 'must-see' tourist attractions, are within easy reach.
Walking, fishing and surfing are all popular pursuits in the area while championship golf facilities abound.
Many family attractions are available nearby in Portrush and Portstewart and miles of golden sand can be found whichever direction you choose to travel.
