The Limousin/Auvergne region
Creuse is part of the region of Limousin and is surrounded by the departments of Corrèze, Haute-Vienne, Allier, Puy-de-Dôme, Cher, and Indre.
It is in the Massif Central and permeated by the Creuse River and its tributaries. The river is dammed at several locations both for water supply and hydroelectricity generation. As is typical for an inland area of continental Europe, Creuse has relatively cold winters with some snowfall into April, but also hot summers. Rain falls throughout the year because of the relatively high elevation.
Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creuse for a lot more useful information.
The many mountain bike trails are marked and these too can be accessed from the village. The gites also have space for the secure storage of outdoor equipment. The nearby town (2km) of Bétête has shops, a tennis club. There is a fishing school based in the restored mill at Moulin de Freteix, where there is also a restaurant serving traditional food.In Châtalus Malvaliex there is a pretty lake with a bar, swimming and at times childrens activities and a small market on a Friday morning. Boussac has a big market, on a Thursday morning. Go to the English language Office de Tourisme site which has a mass of information about fishing, horse riding and much much more, one of the best websites around with masses of information. It even lists the available access points for the internet and the times they are available
