The Languedoc-Roussillon region
The varied landscape of this area of the Languedoc is its primary attraction - from mountains to coast, from canal to vineyard, from modern marina to Roman amphitheatre.
You can be kayaking down the river Orb in the morning and surveying the majesty of the hill-top Cathat castles in the afternoon.
The most extreme example of this diversity is the newly-built, spectacular Millau viaduct, now the tallest bridge in the world, (situated near the famous Roquefort caves) and the beautiful Roman aqueduct the Pont du Gard, near Nimes.
The region therefore offers visitors a wide choice of activities from wine-tasting and markets, swimming and bird watching to boat trips and fossils - there's even bullfighting at Beziers' annual August Spanish Feria.
La Mouline is situated a scenic 10-minute stroll from Autignac, a pretty medieval hill-top village with a cafe, bakery, chemist, 'epicerie' and well-stocked small supermarket /tabac.
The village is surrounded by vineyards and rolling countryside with the mountains beyond, providing magnificent views and ideal for walking and cycling.
A large Intermarche supermarket with cash-machine, garage, bank and restaurants are 5-minutes away by car in Magalas.
The coast is reached via Beziers situated on the beautiful Canal du Midi. The attractive towns of Agde, Marseillan and Sete are an easy drive away as is the historic town of Pezenas with its lively Saturday market.
The nearby river Orb has spectacular scenery for pleasant walks, bathing or kayaking.
The cities of Montpellier and Carcassonne are an hour away and a further hour will take you to Spain, the Pyrenees, Nimes and the impressive Pont du Gard.
