About the home

Half an hour's easy drive from the channel port of Cherbourg in the lush green countryside of the Saire valley, Anneville is a quiet, pleasant village with a river running through it.

Nestling in its own private courtyard, no.12 is an early 19th-century farmhouse that can accommodate up to eight people.

A bakery, a bar and a butcher's shop (which doubles as a grocers) are a few minute's walk from the house, and it will only take you five minutes to reach safe, pleasant beaches.

The house has 2 double bedrooms and 1 twin. Upstairs there is a bathroom and separate W.C. Downstairs there is a shower-room with W.C. The sitting room has a sofa-bed.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a cooker, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge freezer and ample cooking and eating utensils for a party of eight.

Heating is by independent electric radiators in every room. There is also a powerful wood burning stove in the kitchen/living room and an open fireplace in the sitting room.

The shower room is downstairs and has a WC. Upstairs is a large bathroom with a separate WC.

Baby cot and highchair are available by arrangement.

The sofa bed is in the sitting room. There are also comfortable seats in the large kitchen/diner so that early risers do not need to disturb those sleeping in the sitting-room.

Parking is in a gated courtyard. There is ample room for several cars. At the rear of the house is a meadow for eating, playing, sunbathing or just lazing about. Bicycle hire is available locally and the sea is within easy cycling distance on flat roads.

Guests are asked to leave the house in the same clean condition as they found it. However there is an optional final cleaning service if you would prefer to leave that to us.

Conditions

Summer lettings are from Saturday to Saturday and for a minimum of one week. At other times of year booking are flexible with any change-over day and short breaks are available.

The Normandy / Manche region

The department of La Manche consists mostly of the Cotentin Peninsula, which juts out into the English Channel and enjoys a mild maritime climate. The house is on the edge of a small village near the pretty fishing port of Barfleur and the town of St Vaast (famous for its oysters and other seafood). There are beaches about five minutes away by car or ten minutes by bicycle. Further afield are the World Heritage sites of Bayeux and Mont Saint Michel - both easily accessible for a day tour. The D-Day landing beaches are just twenty minutes away.

Being a coastal region, this part of Normandy offers a huge variety of fresh fish and seafood. The local cuisine combines this with locally grown vegetables; dairy produce (especially fresh cream and cheese); apples, cider and Calvados; and excellent meat. The markets are well worth a visit and if you are a keen cook you will find plenty to inspire you.

The Barfleur / Anneville en Saire area

The countryside between the house and the sea (to the north and east) is generally flat and ideal for gentle bicycling on the way to a swim. Inland are the hills of the bocage for the more energetic. Bicycles can be hired locally.

The village itself boasts a baker and a butcher which carries a small range of groceries. There is a bar and small grocer's shop a short walk away.

There are supermarkets at Barfleur, Quettehou (five minutes away) St Pierre Eglise (ten minutes away). And every day of the week there are excellent produce markets within half an hour's drive.
