BookThe Midi-Pyrenees / Haute-Garonne region
The Haute-Garonne department is one of the eight departments of the Midi-Pyrenees region in the south west of France and is home to both the bustling metropolis of Toulouse and a rural backdrop of undulating hills and valleys. It is a department of varied landscapes from lush plains to the soaring peaks of the Pyrenees and of history and great architecture including some of the towns classed amongst the most beautiful in France. Particularly sought after is the lovely spa town of Luchon with its attached ski resort.
In summer the Luchon valley is an accessible paradise for walkers, cyclists and climbers who come to enjoy the beautiful and unspoiled landscape. The walking and cycle route are also marked with hoof prints as the many stables in the region take guided horse rides up into the mountains for spectacular rides. In winter, the Pyrenees are blanketed in snow, and the walkers, bikers and climbers are replaced by skiers and walkers with raquettes (snow shoes) or families with sledges.
The Bagneres de Luchon / Allees des Bains area
Bagnères de Luchon is an ancient, elegant spa town and ski resort with grand houses and hotels testifying to its illustrious past when the who’s who of Europe descended to take the waters including Flaubert, Bismarck and Mata Hari. The spa was built in 1848 on the site of the old Roman baths. Today the waters are reputed to help rheumatism and ear, nose and throat problems. In spring, summer and autumn health seekers and holiday makers come to Luchon for the waters and mountains. In the winter it is the turn of the skiers and winter sports fans.
Known as “the Queen of the Pyrenees”, the centre of Luchon is a little slice of Paris. The busy, tree-lined, boulevard Allées d’Etigny, has rows of restaurants and street cafes, boulangèries and chocolateries with the accompanying enticing aromas of coffee, wine and food. The town is full of flowers, fountains and gardens and well equipped with shops; and you can buy pretty much anything you need in the town itself. Luchon also produces 30 million bottles per year of its own mineral water which has been classified since 1990 and is said to be particularly therapeutic and refreshing.
Luchon offers you the chance to enjoy a great days skiing at its ski station of Superbagnères, (accessed by cable car from the town centre or by car) followed by the ultimate indulgence of a relaxing spa treatment to ease those tired muscles. Other sports available in the area include paragliding, walking, golf, pony trekking and fishing. All surrounded by some of France's prettiest scenery and soaring snowy peaks making one of the most dramatic backdrops you could hope to find. Plus, of course, Spain is only 10 km down the road.

We stayed in Apartment 7, Villa Cecilia recently and cannot recommend it highly enough. The location of the apartment on a tree lined boulevard is perfect for a relaxed stay yet it is within a few minutes walk of the elegant centre of Luchon itself with it's myriad of shops, cafes, restaurants, boulangeries, cinema and of course the thermal baths and spa. The apartment itself has a smashing south facing balcony where we were able to sit and enjoy the spring sunshine and views of the nearby mountains. Apartment 7 is well equipped with everything you might need during your stay including additional items such as a supply of tea/coffee and soaps. There are some lovely little touches to the apartment such as art work and even a pair of vintage skis! Overall, we found the apartment extremely clean and comfortable and more than adequate for our needs. In addition, we found the owner Nadia, very helpful from the outset. Communication was prompt and nothing was too much trouble. We were so impressed we will be back for another stay in a couple of weeks time! |

My wife and I had the good fortune to stay at this wonderful apartment, in its period villa, for a mini ski break. It's in a great location, being just a short walk from the ski lifts, restaurants and bars, yet situated on a peaceful and tranquil avenue. The apartment itself is very elegant. It is spacious, light, tastefully decorated and extremely well furnished and equipped. Quite simply, it is without fault. The immediate ski area is perfect and would be ideal for families with small children, as the slopes were wide, beautifully groomed and sparsely populated. Wonderful! Our break was great fun and very good value for money. In short, it was perfect! We can't wait to return! Highly recommended. |

My husband and I (64 & 54) have just returned from a stay in this apartment and we have have had the most wonderful time. The location, next to the park and spa, so close to restaurants and bars, while very convenient, feels so tranquil. The apartment is just as nice as it looks on the website. Clean and bright and to sit and have breakfast looking out over the mountains is a great way to start each day. We both love to run, cycle and walk we could come back here for another ten visits and not walk all the trails and paths. We would recommended this apartment and the friendly way in which our reservation was confirmed made booking very simple. We look forward to returning. PS love the big fluffy towels. |
