The Attica region

The Attica region doesn't limit itself to Athens and the Acropolis.

You'll find plenty to do around Athens, whatever the season.

From Spring to Autumn, you can of course enjoy the beaches: from the trendy and chic Vouliagmeni, to the remote and discreet beaches on the East Coast of Attica, you will surely find one that suits your tastes. The great advantage of being in Syntagma, is that you have access to all the transportation means available in Athens. If you want to go to the beach you can take a bus, or the tram, or a taxi.

Among the things to see in Attica, you'll find the archeological sites, for example, of Ramnous, Brauron, or Lavrion. You can take a trip to Marathon, to dip into the sea and visit the place of the famous battle.

And if you want to take a day trip to the nearby island of Egina, Poros or the delightful Hydra, nothing is easier: take the subway, just 2 minutes walk from the apartment, and 35 minutes later you're in Piraeus.

Athens

No trip to Athens would be complete without a visit of the Parthenon, which can be reached from the apartment in 15 minutes of leisurely walk,

Not to be missed: the new Acropolis Museum, which will be on your way to the Acropolis, and displays in a most spectacular manner the parts of the temple that weren't filched by the obnoxious Elgin.

One of the loveliest and most instructive museum in Athens, is the Benaki Museum, on Vassilissis Sofias avenue, about 15 minues walk from the apartment. For someone who has very little time to spend in Athens, we recommend this as a self-contained summary of the Greek history.

If you have time, do visit the Archeological Museum, which houses some of the most breathtaking discoveries of Greek Archeology, including the famous "Agamemnon's mask".

At the apartment, you are in the Plaka area: turn left when you exit, and plunge into the most picturesque area of Athens. Go on to visit the Flea Market of Monastiraki.

And if you still have some energy left, walk dawn to the area of Gazi, which owes its name to the fact that it was the industrial region of Athens, producing, amongst other things, gas. The old industrial buildings have been renovated and converted into art exhibitions and the region has a wide array of excellent restaurants, tavernas, bars and nightlife. Which, on your way back, you will also find in the neighborhood of Psirri.

If shopping is our thing, turn right when you walk out of the door and one street down you find yourself on Ermou street, the shopping heart of Athens. If your tastes run to more expensive stuff, you are ten minutes away from the trendy area of Kolonaki.
