Farmhouse | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
If you are looking for a peaceful retreat and the comforts of a real home, the Moraiolo apartment provides a perfect setting for a vacation, a sabbatical or your own art, writing and meditation hideaway.
The apartment occupies part of our original 500 years old farmhouse. In the same farmhouse but with separate access we live and rent a few, quiet, B&B rooms.
The farmhouse is located a short distance from Assisi, about 15 min drive. Shops, open markets and all sort of services are available in Santa Maria degli Angeli which is also a 15 min drive down the mountain. Entirely renovated in 2013 and newly equipped, the self catering accomodation offers bright rooms with breath-taking views on the Umbrian countryside, space and privacy without isolation.
In addition, ours is one of the few truly eco-friendly farms in the area. We produce electricity and hot water with solar panels and heat the house with a state-of-art, powerful wood furnace. The vacation rental has been tastefully decorated with vintage furniture which we have collected during our travels and lovingly restored.
The dining room, master bedroom, studio and one bathroom with shower are on the ground floor. A smaller bedroom with beamed ceiling and a bathroom with bath tub are upstairs in the mezzanine. All the mattresses are new and of a excellent quality. For additional comfort, the bed linen and most of the bed covers we use are made of natural materials like cotton or wool. Bedrooms have either hanging space or a chest of drawers.
If you are staying for more than a week, we will change your bed linen and towels at a time which is convenient to you.
The vacation rental is perfect for just the two of you. However there is privacy, space an comfort for another couple in the second bedroom as well as a sofa bed in the studio for children or young adults.
If you love cooking, the kitchen has excellent, brand new equipment and easy access outdoor to enjoy the long summer nights. We provide an outdoor table, chairs and sun loungers in a separate area our ample garden where you can enjoy spectacular views on our fields, olive groves and on on Assisi's Saint Francis Basilica sorrounded by rolling green hills.

About this location
The Umbria region
About half way between Rome and Florence, as beautiful as Tuscany but more quiet and green, Umbria represents the quint essential experience of the Italian countryside. The region is small, you can visit most of its marvellous hill-towns during a day trip from one central location in the region. Assisi is ideal as most attractions are within 45 to 90 min from here.
You will need a week visit to see the highlights, but there is enough to do for 2 or 3 weeks if you take the time to relax, hike, take photographs, meditate or any other activities involved in enjoying the magnificent countryside.
Assisi, Gubbio, Todi, Orvieto, Spoleto, Norcia, Perugia and the Sagrantino di Montefalco wine region are at easy reach. In addition, Tuscany's splendid Renaissance towns Siena and Cortona as well as the marvelous Frasassi Caves and imposing Urbino in Le Marche are all within about an hour's drive. If you enjoy hiking, the Subasio natural park, the Franciscan Trail of Peace and the FAI Saint Francis Woodlands are only minutes away from our farmhouse.
Medieval Assisi is a Unesco world heritage site not only for being the birthplace of Saint Francis. The beautiful hill town, built in rose coloured stones and perched on the Slopes of the Subasio Natural Park is world famous for its medieval art masterpieces, such as the Basilica of San Francesco and the frescoes by Cimabue, Pietro Lorenzetti, Simone Martini and Giotto.
Assisi is considered a fundamental reference point for the development of Italian and European art and architecture and a major repository of medieval art in Europe.
Besides the town, the Assisi countryside is an oasis of rare beauty and tranquillity, clean air, unforgettable sunsets and almost- mystical peace. It's a special place indeed where you will want to go back over and over again.
