This charming property set in the forest with stunning views across the valley. Near to Akyaka,in a traditional village,an hours drive from Dalaman airport, Erikli Ev was our dream home. We bought an old shepherd's cottage set amongst the pine trees and lovingly restored it to the lovely house you see now. In the morning you wake up to the sounds of birds, cicadas and the local mosque. In this natural setting the view across the valley is just divine. By night you can watch the stars, hear the frog chorus from the natural pond down below and enjoy the peace of having no neighbours in the immediate vicinity, the house is very private! The kitchen is fully equipped if you want to cook a feast, in addition there is a barbecue, perfect if you want to enjoy some local fish or meats. This is a traditional village where people farm their small holdings, children play in the fields and men chatter in the tea house by day and plough the land in the cooler evenings.

With a mountain backdrop Erikli Ev consists of a main house with large air-conditioned bedroom, a four poster bed and shutters. The open plan sitting room and fully equipped modern kitchen, is stylishly decorated. The long veranda has a large dining table and provides shade as well as a lovely dinner setting. The annexe houses a further two air-conditioned large double bedrooms with en-suite open plan shower rooms. The pool and gardens are secluded and offer plenty of sunbathing and seating areas.

Whenever you can drag yourself away from the tranquillity of the house, the Carian Coast awaits. The villa is located in the forest on the mountain-side just over fifteen minute's drive from the stunning pebble beach at Cinar, and the pretty town of Akyaka with its 'Ula-Mugla' style of architecture, superb river restaurants and sandy town beach.

The perfect place to holiday if you want to be far from the maddening crowd and experience the real Turkey.

The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

Portakallik Village is situated between Koycegiz and Akyaka. These resorts offer supermarkets, restaurants and local boat trips. Koycegiz has a bank, a Monday local market, and the Akyaka market is on a Wednesday. Situated on the banks of the Azmak river, Akyaka is famous for its riverside fish restaurants, which also serve a hearty Turkish breakfast. There is also a sandy beach and several Kite-surfing schools. Daily boat trips go from here, heading for the secluded bays of Gokova Korfez.

Portakallik village itself is mainly made up of small holdings and the locals farm the land, as well as dairy and sheep farming. There is a small village shop, with more variety in the shops of nearby Karabortlen, where there is also a Friday morning market. Many guests will find it difficult to drag themselves away from the haven of the house but if you do there are plenty of things to do.

Akyaka

The area is great for walking, especially in the lower season months. Some of the Carian Trail paths are nearby. For more information refer to www.cariantrail.com For bird watchers this is a superb spot as many unusual species have been spotted.

Ephesus is a 2 hour drive and Aphrodisias ancient site & Pamukkale are 2.5hrs drive. All are individually reachable in a day.

"Lovely house in a quiet natural setting"

Excellently equipped house and kitchen, located outside of a small village, perfect privacy, natural surroundings, refreshing swimmingpool with good size, barbeacue, different sitting and dinning places on the grounds, good for two (honeymoon approved :) but also for small groups
