La Maison des Barriques
About the home
Behind the original facade of this old winery, lies a fabulous contemporary interior. Unlived in for over 40 years the property has been transformed and lovingly renovated to a high standard. Being an Interior Designer, every detail has been considered, mixing old with new, and retaining original features to provide a warm, spacious and light atmosphere. In this beautifully restored winemakers home we offer luxury accommodation with a spacious terrace looking over the village to the vineyards beyond.
La Maison des Barriques is situated just off the village square in the small hamlet of Paguignan in the Minervois wine Region. The quiet hamlet of Paguignan nestles in the foot hills of the Montagne Noire and just 35kms from the Mediterranean. Just 2 minutes from the front door you are among the vineyards or in the garrigue. A paradise for painter, walkers ( and strollers ). The Cathar village of Minerve, which sits perched on a rock between two deep gorges, is just 15 minutes away and the Canal du Midi , which offers boat trips, boat hire, walks and restaurants is just 20 minutes away.

Enquire nowThe Aquitaine / Dordogne / Herault region
This part of the Longuedoc boasts a sunny Mediterranean climate with, they say, 300 days of sunshine per year. Summers are hot but sometimes tempered by a breeze.
This is a land of contrasts between the gentle sandy coast with coastal lagoons, the more luscious plain of the river Aude where cherries, apricots and olives grow and where the Canal du Midi meanders serenely, and the more rugged interior. A land of vineyards, wine and good food, perfumed garrigue, castles, abbeys, Cathar history, walks, rivers for fishing and swimming, colourful markets with fresh local produce and historic cities such as Roman Nabonne and Carcassonne with its remarkable medieval fortress - one of Europe's best preserved wall cities.
The Aigues Vives / Paguignan area
Paguignan is surrounded by pretty vineyards and gentle hills. Walking among the vineyards or in the wild garrigue with its amazing scenery is wonderful. There are many marked walking routes around Paguignan and Aigues Vives and many more in a wider area. The spectacular old Cathar village of Minerve is practically on the doorstep. Swimming in the river at Biz-Minervois is 10 minutes away and the Mediterranean beaches 45 minutes. Other sporting activities nearby include, tennis ( in Aigues Vives ) water sports and horse riding.
The nearest village, with amenities, mini market, boulangerie, Post Office and two restaurants, is Aigues Vives, 2 kms from Paguignan or 10 minute bike ride. However the boulangerie delivers fresh bread 4 times per week and butcher and general stores vans call weekly. Nearly every day of the week you can visit a bustling market with local produce in one of the nearby towns. There are ,also a number of very good restaurants within 10 km.
