Welcome to The Artists Residence and Whyanbeel Valley Studio and Gallery.
Situated in the lush tropical rainforest and set back into the mountain. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Great Dividing Range and the rock formation known as Manual Jimalji, a place of cultural significance to the Kuku Yalanji that tells the story of fire creation.
Tropical rains and mist weave in and out of the mountain range, allowing the light to penetrate deep into the forest and ravines in unique ways. The view is always changing and can be enjoyed from all aspects of the house.
Upstairs, in the "treehouse loft" is a king bed, surrounded by a mosquito net. Enjoy the view from above the canopy. This room is open to the elements. There is also on ensuite and a second bedroom with two single beds, all with mosquito nets. Both these rooms have ceiling fans to keep you cool in the tropical evenings.
Downstairs is another two large bedrooms, one with a king bed and one with a queen bed. This room has air conditioning and can be closed up or left open.
The living area offers a large table that can sit up to ten and a comfortable couch. The main bathroom is an "outdoor" style bathroom with a shower and large bathtub.
In keeping with our philosophy that too much technology is not conducive to relaxation, we have chosen not to include televisions and have kept technology to a minimum. There is a landline phone that you are welcome to use as needed and wifi access is available at the studio and gallery (less than a minutes walk) There is no mobile phone reception.
The Whyanbeel River, located two minutes walk from the house provides safe swimming year round - no crocodiles or stingers! Clear, fresh water straight out of the Daintree National Park. The drinking water to the house is directly pumped from an underground spring and is delicious, clean and pure.
The Residence is an easy sonic drive, one hour and ten minutes north of Cairns Airport. We are able to arrange transfers for you if necessary but do recommend you hire a car.
You are surrounded by nature yet close enough to civilisation to enjoy the best of the tropical north. High Falls Farm is located a few minutes drive from the residence and provides Friday Night Dinners, live music, lunches and breakfasts throughout the week. The township of Mossman, ten minutes from the residence has a Woolworths supermarket, hospital, chemists, newsagents and a bustling market on Saturday Mornings. There is also Mossman Gorge! Port Douglas, is thirty minutes by car and offers the best in fine dining, a bustling Sunday market, and is home to a large marina where daily tours leave to the reef. Cape tribulation is a one hours drive North and Daintree is a thirty minute drive north. Newell Beach is only 10 minutes away.
