Location description from owner

The Barbados region

Barbados is a coral island which stands apart from the other Caribbean islands and is fortunate to lie outside the huricane belt. It enjoys 3000 hours of sunshine annually and average temperatures of 84-88* F (29-31*C) On the rare occasions when it rains, the spectacle is worth seeing! The sea is glorious -- warm, clear and safe. The local currency is the Barbados $ but US $ are also taken. The tap water is safe to drink.
The Fishermans Pub in Speightstown stages a limbo dancing exhibition on a Wednesday night. Its cheap, cheerful and fun particularly if a steel band is playing and the friendly locals turn out to dance. During the day, streetsellers offer fruit, vegetables and artwork. There are doctors, dentists, pharmacies, supermarkets & banks within easy reach. Fresh fish is plentiful and inexpensive.

Speightstown

Holetown is about 10 minutes drive away and offers assorted bars, live music, cabaret and many restaurants.
Old plantation houses such as St Nicholas' Abbey and Sunbury Plantation put on interesting tours and rum tastings.
The east coast of the island faces the Atlantic ocean and so is different in character to the gentle Caribbean Sea. It is worth going to Crane Beach though to play in the surf and experience what the Sunday Times listed as one of the top 10 beaches in the world.
Bathsheba is an exceptionally picturesque spot on the east coast.. Whilst down in this part of the island you are close to the Concorde exhibition, located at the airport.
Horse racing and polo are popular on the island and make for a great day out. The George Washington museum is nearby.
St Lawrence Gap, towards the South of the island is more bustling and home to the nightclubs.
Bridgetown has a huge number of jewellers shops, bewilderingly large displays of emeralds and diamonds and keen duty free prices.
Crop Over in August is the time when the island parades, drinks rum, dances and has fun.

“Fabulous Holiday”

Reviewed 18 Dec 2016

What a gem we found. We arranged for a taxi to pick us up from the airport and stop off at a supermarket to pick up some shopping . He was a lovely man who told us all about the wonderful decorated roundabouts that were celebrating 50 years of independence. On arrival at the apartment we turned the key in the door to find a fantastic home that was ours for the week. We had an amazing week, used the local bakery , went on the reggae bus to Bridgetown, visited Jumas as for an excellent meal. We were even invited to a locals party where we met a lot of people. Eddies supermarket was visited regularly and the Bristol Beach Bar became a favourite to watch the sunset. All in all it was a fantastic apartment with everything anyone on holiday could ever want, plus more and we would love to return for another holiday in paradise. Many thanks P local kaioke night.

“Jacaranda: A Dreamy Apartment, A Stunning View, A Great Location”

Reviewed 10 Apr 2013

Jacaranda is a luxurious, immaculately-kept, and beautifully-decorated apartment. The owner provides everything you could possibly need for living, cooking, and enjoying the area. The view from the private terrace is a wide vista of the Caribbean sea and sky; the sunsets are some of the most spectacular I've ever seen, and at night the constellations are clearly visible. The beach in front of the apartment is clean, lovely, and peaceful; we had it to ourselves much of the time and enjoyed snorkeling right there, where there is plenty of coral. We especially liked that the apartment is in Speightstown, far enough away from the very touristy areas to feel as if you are authentically in Barbados, but lively during the day with shops and restaurants and friendly people, and peaceful at night. Jacaranda is highly recommended.

“Superb property in an excellent location”

Reviewed 31 Dec 2011

We really enjoyed our stay at Jacaranda, which felt more like staying at a friend’s home than in holiday accommodation. The upper floor is a very large double height open plan kitchen / diner / sitting area opening out to a large terrace directly overlooking the turquoise sea. The kitchen is large and very well equipped, including a large fridge with ice maker, dishwasher, and large cooker, and we were able to cook full meals easily and eat on the large circular table. In the mornings we ate breakfast on the terrace with the two fly-catcher birds, overlooking the sea, and in the evening watch the sunset. The apartment is very well equipped, with books, games, ipod dock, snorkelling gear, beach chairs and games , a cool box, a local mobile phone and binoculars for looking at the stars and ships. The location is excellent – a short walk into Speightstown to the south, and beach directly in front of the property, with Port St Charles beach just to the north. Holetown is a short drive for the famous restaurants, and you can walk to Mullins and Gibbs beaches along the coast. Kevin the owner was extremely helpful from our first email, to handing over the keys, and provided us with detailed and accurate recommendations on booking. The guest book is also a source of useful information. We really cannot think of any aspect of the property, or our dealing with the owner, that we did not like.

“Simply heaven!”

Reviewed 19 Oct 2011

This apartment is truly perfect in every way possible! Two very spacious bedrooms, gated parking, huge balcony with a view to die for and the apartment is beautifully decorated throughout. Located in Speightstown, home to locals so the culture of the town is still very much alive and not crawling with tourists. The beaches closeby are breathtaking and the restaurants are out of this world amazing. The apartment is really well equipped too so we stayed in a few nights and cooked up a feast and relaxed in the comfy living area with our holiday books - bliss! I highly recommend and the owners are ever so helpful and willing to help out anyway possible to make your holiday perfect!

“The best holiday I've ever been on - so amazing I've been back 3 times!”

Reviewed 19 Oct 2011

What can I say?! I have had the most fantastic holidays in Barbados and with every trip I seem to fall more and more in love with the island. This is a truly beautiful apartment in the most idyllic setting. Situated on the west coast of the island, close to gorgeous near-deserted beaches and top restaurants such as The Cliff and Tides, it leaves you wanting little. The apartment itself is clean, well looked after, and you can tell it is well loved by the owners. They have thought of everything - books, cook books, a folder with information from taxis - restaurants - to water sports, and the small toiletries are a lovely touch as there's always something you've forgotten! The best thing about this apartment though is the outdoor space which is ideal for a few G & Ts overlooking the beach as you watch the sun set. The perfect place for a memorable Barbados holiday!

“Cant wait to return”

Reviewed 18 Sep 2011

The apartment is better than the photos. It is very cool and stylish .We had rented an adjoining property in the same building in Feb. 2010 WE have been inside some of the others and this is in my opinion the best one in the building ,although the others were very nice The Views are amazing and it is very safe and secure. We stayed here in Feb 2011 and have already booked to return next year. The owner gave us A great list of things to do and all the info we needed for a gret holiday.

“Beautiful apartment, great location - what more could one want?”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2011

From the first enquiry to the return of the deposit everything about this booking has been a pleasure. Helpful and accomodating, the owners are great to deal with. The apartment has every amenity one needs with a homely touch - good library etc. Beautifully clean and maintained, we could have moved in for good! Perfectly situated on a good beach with excellent snorkelling on the doorstep, really close to Speightstown but just far enough away to be totally relaxing and quiet. Would have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful retreat - can't wait to get back there! Thank you Kevin and Sheila!
